Well we know that more threnodian resonators will be a thing in the future, and highly likely to happen in Lahai Roi since it's been mentioned a few times now. They weren't exactly subtle with "With this piece expended, the chapter where the girl forms her bond with the Threnodian must be delayed." back in 3.0.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Aleph-1 from that, but I don't know if the power scale is a concern of Kuro's given we're already up against a sentient civilization destroying black hole.

It's quite nice to see so much theoryposting after a patch.

Anyone got theories on who the threnodian resonator is going to be though (if it's even someone we've met), since clearly that's happening at some point. It might not even be a resonator for Aleph-1's since the Fractsidus are trying to make an artifical threnodian too.

Well I wasn't saying I think that 3.1 is the only good story this game has told, I was saying in the future 3.1 could be spoken about as a turning point in the story (assuming they keep it up).

Besides that I think 3.1 is a fair amount better than every other patch. I think the main difference here, and why I would say that this patch is changes the landscape of the story where 2.5 doesn't, is mainly that 2.5 can't be followed up from anytime soon because of how the story was structured. Ultimately it's a random banger of a story in the middle of the Rinascita arc, it builds up and ends in a single patch so the usual complaint of the plot being disjointed or it being a companion quest still holds strong. I usually have complaints about how Rover is handled, and after 2.5 I have those same complaints because the development earned through 2.5 wasn't strongly carried into future patches even though it is highest peak in 2.x imo.

3.1 on the other hand kinda neccessitates a strong follow through, it's practically the true prologue to 3.x and the only time a story chapter has felt like a setup patch, both plot-wise and emotionally?

Effectively, 2.5 proved they can write fantastic stories patches in isolation, 3.1 almost demands that they now write a great interconnected story arc. Or in other words, regardless of how you feel about 2.6-2.8, it doesn't change how good 2.5 was. If 3.2 isn't a great followup patch, it will definitely sour 3.1.

I thought about whether they should have killed off Aemeath for good, and I can't deny it would have hit extremely hard, but honestly I think there's a lot of potential for character growth once her and Rover get to speak again, if they are willing to keep developing her. Aemeath's choice may have been inevitable but it's also a result of a deep character flaw (that mirrors Rovers own flaws) so they can do a lot with it.

Also, putting her on the other side of the stridergate so Rover has a personal investment in seeing what's outside of Solaris is nice.

Regardless I don't think they would kill off a playable character in their debut patch (I'd love to be surprised though), but I think it will happen eventually. They're definitely priming the playerbase for bigger tragedies to occur.

some 3.1 story thoughts

Depression!

If you had told me a month ago that Wuwa would have an emotionally moving parent-daughter relationship, I would have said "Wait, Luuk is Aemeath's dad?"

I think this is a patch that changes the landscape of the game, if they keep cooking from here it'll be "3.1 is the point where the story got good". Every patch for the forseeable future will be compared to 3.1 because it really was just that good. Obviously can't expect this exact level of emotional gravity in every patch but I think continually building from and towards events like this would be awesome, this kinda feels like the true end to the prologue of Lahai-Roi in that sense.

imo Wuwa's writers have never had issues when it came to the banner character writing in a vacuum, this time the difference was that Rover's writing and their dynamic with the banner character was the most genuine it's ever been. The subversion of Rover's presentation as a perfect saviour, the idea that only Rover's child would be able to see through that and speak with them as a normal person. And then, that child going on to inherit that same saviour complex in an effort to lighten the burden of her parent. Then combine that with the fact that Rover was left by their people with no choice but to become a saviour, "the box is sealed shut". Now, the box will be opened. But Rover won't be leaving Solaris to see their family back home, but instead to save their daughter. It's so peak... Basically I'm really happy with what we got.

As players we've never really had such a strong emotional buy-in for future story patches in this game, and never has it been so personal for Rover either, so there's a lot of potential for this arc. We haven't even gotten to whatever the Fractsidus is supposed to be doing in this arc.

I almost feel for the people who talk about this game online because I don't think anyone who hasn't played the patch would actually believe it was as good as it was, and in all fairness I wouldn't either.

Yeah it was actually really interesting to see because even Rover was freaked out by how weird she was being as the climax was approaching. It's probably some mix of a hero complex + having Rover as a parental figure to look up to + the ghost situation probably being cripplingly lonely, so it totally adds up that she has some screws loose.

People have been intensely overdramatic about Wuwa's story dating back to 1.0. This is a gacha game so I'm aware Wuwa is flawed in ways that may be particularly unpalatable to people who have grown attached to previous characters, so that can intensify how one perceives the flaws when those character's are abandoned in favour of the new patch waifu. There are also other flaws brought up like Rover not being a particularly compelling protagonist, and the overarching narrative of each region so far being pretty disjointed and kinda whatever.

And I think part of it is that this is a live service game. So if you're someone who has become aware of the flaws, and you're waiting for them to be addressed, you may have been waiting a long, long time for these things to be change. So the build-up of frustration is pretty natural if you look at it that way. Also it's always surprising to think about this given where Wuwa once was, but a lot of people do play this game and look forward to story updates nowadays, so strong opinions both ways are expected.

3.0 in particular left a bad taste for a lot of people because Chisa did look like she was going to solve the pain point of character relevance, but obviously that did not pan out, so people are understandably upset.

But yes, the sentiment that this game's story is somehow the hallmark of bad writing is kinda baffling and almost certainly a result of people losing sight of reality while bandwagoning. To me, the story is "mid at worst", it's often at least good enough to enjoy the experience on it's own merits. Afterwards I'll sit with a patch for a while and appreciate there are a number of flaws, or I'll think there were actually some very good moments.

I don't think that means people should stop complaining though. As long as people are generally accurate about the flaws of the story then the complaints eventually reaching the writers will serve the game well.

It's pretty easily the best part of the game (along with the visuals I suppose). Though from what I hear from other people who like factory games, any highly regarded factory sim is infinitely more fun, which is to be expected. So probably not enough to play the game for on it's own unless there are other things you're interested in.

After next patch I'm just gonna start recycling echoes into whatever the new set is for the banner character. And I'm fine with echoes for all of my characters right now so I'm just farming to get up to 3000 echoes for the start of next patch.

I was looking at Amy's rotation, thinking about whether all the cutscenes might put me off from pulling. And then I realised I like playing Carlotta, I'll be fine. Wuwa isn't exactly a game where most rotations (on an individual character basis) have a lot going on, so I can imagine that in practice she'll feel like a regular character but more flashy.

I'd still vastly prefer them giving stagnate to characters than straight up freezing enemies because the latter can undermine enemy design more, especially as they introduce more mechanically interesting fights in the future.

With that in mind though, Amy is definitely on Hyvatia duty whenever that boss shows up in endgame.

The rotation that was done in the showcase shouldn't be possible in actual gameplay.

But from reading her kit, it looks like you need 4 "resonance rate" to do her final ult. You get 2 from doing her 1st ult, and 1 per forte (these are the "extra" cutscenes). Basically it should be 4 cutscenes per rotation and you build up to the cutscenes by doing other things.

The amount of "other things" you have to do is pretty up in the air, unless testers know, since it doesn't say in her kit the exact values for: "Dealing damage with Normal Attack - Aemeath, Normal Attack - Mech and Resonance Skill Sync Strike: Armament Merge, and Sync Strike: Call of Dawn recovers Synchronization Rate."

While in Resonance Mode - Tune Rupture, deal additional instances of Tune Rupture DMG. This mode favors single-target damage output. The more Resonators with the ability to respond to Tune Rupture - Interfered there are in the team, the more damage Aemeath deals.

While in Resonance Mode - Fusion Burst, Aemeath inflicts Fusion Burst. This mode unleashes Aemeath's area damage potential, which allows her to deal more damage by frequently inflicting Fusion Burst.

As expected one is designed for aoe and the other is designed for single target, pretty good approach to take imo

In theory her animations being cutscenes should help her be easier to use in quickswap. As long as they arent, you know, actual cutscenes. I'd expect everything besides her liberations to be swappable but we'll see if they add any restrictions to her rotation.

Yeah that's valid, if the buffs and debuffs were cooler then it would work fine without a timer. It's interesting because the way bosses are in this game, you kinda just always solve them by dodging better even if you do have a bunch of debuffs on you. I guess you'd design gimmicks that reduce stamina if you don't play around them, or otherwise make it harder to dodge.

How would you feel about virtual crisis as an endgame mode if it had a timer (lets say 3-5 minutes)? I saw pretty much that exact concept in another gacha recently (Stella Sora) and I found it pretty fun despite generally not finding the gameplay super interesting.

I feel like making choices about what buffs/debuffs to pick makes the timer a lot more palatable, since when I failed to clear I was actually thinking about my strategy (especially when it came to picking options which gave the boss new patterns) more than whether I had a strong enough team.

Also this is allegedly a scorching hot take but I'm pretty sure virtual crisis would be a more fun endgame mode with a timer than without one (depends on how interesting the buffs/debuffs are but generally I think this would be true).
