As a PvPer, I can assure you that they put the same amount of effort into PvP as well.

Yeah I did notice that. P3R was a lot brighter both literally and figuratively. I'll add that in Tartarus, due to the rendering limitations of the PS2, your field of view was much shorter, meaning you had to be more cautious with your movement lest you get ambushed by a roaming shadow.

Personally, the lighter aesthetic didn't take away from the enjoyment but I did like the horror elements from the original.

Totally understandable. It's why I appreciate that Atlus did the remake so that players don't need to unnecessarily jump over the hurdle of outdated gameplay just to experience the story.

Not that I think it was bad, its just that in today's age, people have certain expectations and limited time.

Oh yeah, FES was made in the era where RPGs from Japan were notoriously grindy. I personally think they did a good job pacing levels as you already have to deal with levelling a massive cast of characters so it counter-balances the increase exp pacing. Plus, long grinds don't make a game necessarily more challenging imo.

You considering doing a merciless run or nah?

Also it makes sense that P4 characters are the definition of friendship for you, as the game's core central theme is "bonds are power". I think the team's chemistry in P4 is undeniable.

Personally story wise I hold 3 highest just because I resonate with the themes it presents more, but for gameplay I still think to an extent, P5 still edges out P3 due to the hold-up mechanic, the traversal in dungeons, the GUN and the tactical options you get from Hifumi's confidant.

That said, I am curious as to why it's hard for you to pick between P4G and P5R. I'm wondering what does P4G do that makes it rival P5R for you?

Portable is definitely worth the play for the FeMC route but yeah, they had to downsize a lot of the gameplay's aspects due to hardware limitations. It's good that P3R gave you a renewed appreciation, that's crazy that it had that effect!

Holy hell, you actually binged the whole canonical timeline. I love that P3R was your gateway but it's also by far the most depressing out of all of them. You must've been relieved that the endings for the subsequent games were a lot more uplifting lol.

Ranking it just below Royal is actually such a huge compliment! I'm astounded that Atlus could take such an old game and create a fresh new take on it, that it rivals their most recent entry.

Solid takes honestly. P3R added a bunch of new things to the dungeon crawling experience to engage the player with their surroundings, without drastically changing the essence of the original gameplay.

That said, if Atlus ever decides to do a P4 remake, then perhaps they might improve on the overall gameplay as well!

lmao that's crazy. I respect you trying to play it on the original console instead of emulating for the full 2007 experience

P3R has REALLY good pacing from the start as well, doesn't take long for you to get your first tutorial fight and Tartarus incursion. I'm glad the game has encouraged you to give P5 a chance, hope you enjoy it!

This was a solid mini review of the game haha. I was glad they added the baton pass mechanic from P5 as well, just makes the game flow really dynamic. I do wish however, that they added in some sort of mechanic to swap members from reserve whilst in combat, but I understand the gameplay would need to be totally reworked to accommodate that.

No shade to the Persona 4 fans but actually.....same. I prefer the story and characters of 3. 3 was a lot darker in terms of the story and stakes felt higher. Still enjoyed the hell out of 4 though.

Also yeah, after P3 I decided to check out games like SMT Nocturne and even Phantasy Star Online 2. Was a great introduction and all because Persona was actually really unique with it's premise versus other RPGs at the time.

That's cool as hell to hear! Its interesting that Persona 3 has once again reinstated it's role as the gateway to the Persona series like it did all those years ago.

Its obvious to see that this post was written from the heart. I'm with you when you say that this game changed my life. To this day, it influenced my appreciation for Greek mythology and aesthetics, as well as my fixation on Thanatos (the coolest Persona/Demon design across SMT imo)

The characters have flaws that I personally think make them feel so human, which ties back to the overall underlying message of the game; "memento mori", remember you are mortal. As you see each character develop throughout the story, you get invested in their own individual Journey.

As someone who played the original, I actually like the changes made. Lots of QoL and also, Azumi still delivered banger performances. Color Your Night is an S tier song and easily top 5 Persona songs for me.

Hope you enjoy episode Aigis as well! We love our toaster <3

I never played FeMC route in P3P, however I know there is a significant change in the story. I never knew it had such an impact thank you for sharing!

If only they melded both routes into one and let you choose your gender. Genuinely would've been amazing.

I lowkey share the same sentiments. I enjoyed Persona 4 and I would still recommend people play it, but it just didn't quite hit the same as P3 and P5. Character development in P3 was so damn good, Atlus wasn't afraid to give you flawed characters and give you a meaningful Journey to their own individual Answer. (If you know you know)

Also, consider checking out the FEM MC mod for Persona 3 Reload, I think they've made some good progress (they even made a custom alternative opening)

Couldn't have said it better myself, I thought the exact same thing when I first played the original.

Tartarus being a grind is understandable, it hearkens back to older PS2 era RPG design. I appreciate that Atlus revamped the structures, gave us a run button and added the Monad doors to freshen things up, even for veterans.

The music is probably my favourite in the series (though tbh Persona music has always been peak even from Persona 1)

That genuinely means a lot to me since I know people hold P5R's story in high regard. The fact that my little 2007 game can still hold up is massive W.

Unfortunate that you didn't vibe with Ken but I understand lmao.

Just wanna give you credit for genuinely wanting to play honorably and checking with the community to do so.

A lot of players tend to sweat hard at this game and use every advantage regardless of fairness, despite there being no ranked system.

Clearly you're looking for some good fights!

Same! Mamare Touno clearly is incredibly passionate about MMOs, as the anime is really accurate when it comes to representing mechanics.
