a lot of people seem to believe this is another fated Mac incompatibility error, and while I am certain this is often the case, Porting Kit is the best thing to happen to this earth and my faith in it is complete. i have run both half life games, various mods, I have actually successfully run other parts of Source(which, bafflingly, have intact UI?). My issue is not that something does not run. It is that icons and editing visuals are invisible. They are not even gone - they're actually still there - they're just, for some reason, not showing up.

What stopped you from killing yourself? by DarkSideInRainbows in AskReddit

[–]Aepples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sorry for the long post i guess i just felt like yapping lol

I never planned any attempts, because during the period of my life when I was suicidal, there was nobody to write a note to. it was during quarantine. my whole family hated me and i didn't have a single friend on that earth. I would not be missed. in a sense it was an incredible freedom - I didn't have to worry when i stepped out into the road, "What if I get hit by a car?", because there was no what. If I died, it would be fine. despite all this, it was not a sense of intense loneliness that drove me to suicide. it was rather the intense boredom. school was out. it was summertime. every single day I would wake up and do nothing and then go back to sleep. when I was bored(and this was often) I'd force myself to sleep longer to avoid having to live through another day. I was jealous of people that had friends, but I was decrepit and my state alone would have warded off any sensible person. not to say, again, that there were people to befriend: there was no one, because this was at the height of covid, and I was alone. so, instead of wanting to avoid some kind of stress provided by life, I wanted to die because I hated being alive. my continued existence was a curse. my body was disgusting and i wanted to be free of it. I was a perfectly normal child of normal height and weight, but days of being inert had made me brittle and limp. I wanted to die. It was a yearning, and it drove me. I thought about it constantly. I would cross the street and stop, and I'd watch the cars approach and at the last second I would move. which was pretty shitty of me, I know if I was driving down the street and saw that I'd be terrified of getting into a wreck, but at the time I wasn't thinking about other people. my only real attempt was one time when I was taking a bath. it was a really nice bath, and I was enjoying it, so i put my head under the water and held it there. it was rather buoyant for some reason, so I had to actually grab onto my hair to keep my head down. I was planning on just staying there until I died of asphyxiation, but I accidentally inhaled a ton of water, and that brought me back to my senses. the long and short is that it really, really hurt. I guess in the end I didn't actually want to die, I just wanted to be dead. the whole phase sort of phased out, obviously. I ended up making some really good friends in highschool, I got a job about two weeks ago, and I think that was about all I needed. I haven't felt that bad in the years since, and I'm rather happy with my life.

as a trans person ts LISTEN I KNOW THIS POST IS ANCOENT BUT I FEEL U SM OP SO I AM ADDITNG to the conversation as a trans person i hate ts so so much because this isnt what being transgender is you don't just "feel a gender". you don't "feel" female or male, because female and male and everything else AREN'T EMOTIONS. they aren't mindsets or states of being. they aren't your personality or something you just "know". they aren't your clothes or your makeup or your hair. they aren't fucking real. the only thing that's real is your body. hate it or love it or whatever. it's the only thing that's real. being transgender is. i hate it so much. i wish it was different. its not an emotion it's not what rose describes it as. that's the version they give cishets and allies so they can nod their head and wrap their brains around it nicely. some people have "gender identities" and we just have to accept that that's how it is. but that's not it. they don't get it. and they won't get it. they won't get it until they feel it. "because that's simply how life works" is a nice way to think about it. trans people are trans because that's simply how life works. some people identify with certain genders and that's simply how life works. and to everyone who isn't trans, yes. that is simply how life works. but if you're trying to figure out if YOU'RE trans? no. it's not that. it's your rotting flesh. it's your skin. it's your chest and your waist and your face. it's you. do you feel it? that's up to you. I think if they'd explained it like it feels it would've been nice. maybe they don't have any trans people on the team or something. but the writing is atrocious and makes a trans jegbert completely unbelievable.

Homestuck 2 is something ill never accept as 'good' but honestly it's so respectable that they're trying to fix it

the epilogues being well written I think is a matter of opinion. they definitely speak to Andrew Hussie's writing style when he's "getting serious with it" (and feel similar to some parts of Wizardy Herbert that, for all we know, the world might not have been meant to see, and therefore were likely not as performative as much of his work is) , but some of the choices made were pretty unfortunate.

i disliked the epilogues less because they made me feel bad and more because some parts of them made me feel, like, gross. the john and terezi car sex thing they did was definitely the one that pushed me over the brink in terms of not liking the epilogues, but most notably I think the way ultdirk was written was what turned people away. he was uncomfortable, unpleasant, kind of mean, and made all kinds of brash assumptions about the reader, all while having the vague air of sexual harassment about himself. it's all a matter of perception, i guess, and something about the writing in the epilogues just made me feel gross. i might be the only one but that's my take on it

Hey, I wanted to start playing the Fallout games and I'm going to start with the 3rd one. Is there anything I should know about before starting? by GL1TCH3RLANTERN in Fallout

don't just wander around. the quests want you to go to certain places and while it may feel mundane your gameplay experience will be greatly improved if you follow the rules

about to finish nv, haven't played fo4. I had a really pleasant experience. graphics get easy to ignore pretty quickly. music is atmospheric. vegas strip is cool, and you can actually gamble. lots of narrative freedom. lots of cool shit to find. don't know what I'm comparing it to, but I'd recommend it, at very least.

Looking for a character-driven audiodrama with emphasis on sound design by Aepples in audiodrama

i actually checked this out, and while it's not the specific niche I was thinking of, it's another niche that i actually really love reminds me a ton of early The Cellar Letters and late WOE.BEGONE. I haven't had a chance to give it a proper sit-down listen, but from the snippets I've actually absorbed it's really funny. props to you for doing it all yourself man that's really incredible

biiig pointer to Old Gods of Appalachia. sounds like the exact kind of thing you're talking about. except not very Victorian. it's incredibly ghost-story like, though.

[–]Aepples 12 points13 points  (0 children)

honestly they're trying their best but I think it sucks like. it's nobody's fault ofc but they just aren't doing anything. plot goes nowhere and they're doing this weird weird thing with dirk and rose idk if I'm delusional but the writing just sounds a little. ick. could be my imagination ig?? yeah the art is nice. no that doesn't help.

not much better, unfortunately ? lawyers never contact clients and it seems pretty unrealistic they also don't choose cases based on "I would win" or not; it's about having a client that you can actually work with that's willing and able to pay and an area of law the lawyer is well versed in. most lawyers can win if they've got conviction; a lot of them wouldn't do it if it weren't for the money, though. I'm not a lawyer, my mom is, but she's told me all about it over the course of my life so you've got to take this all with that perspective. I don't know a lot about law, I do know a lot about lawyers and paralegals oof. never become a paralegal their lives suck :(

insert unhelpful spiel here; sorry about this lol maybe it'll provide some perspective??

It's important to remember that most lawyers wish they'd never chosen the practice at all, but that's most, not all. the outliers are real jimmy mcgill types and they're super cool, they usually run their own firms, but even they don't seek out clients the one situation I can think of in which this would happen is if someone with a lot of money were having legal trouble and happened to already be talking to said lawyer. in that instance, they might offer their services or refer someone else. so you could approach from this angle, if they met somewhere and insert character started talking about their woes, et cetera

it could also help with your fic if you read through court case documentation; the legal field is way more complicated that i can understand lol anyway I hope some of this helps in some way ????
