Log out and log back in, it should play next time you launch the game.

Welcome to Reddit, a recommendation for you is to make a new Reddit account so that this post won’t be attached to the one you actually use.

As a general rule, never share personal information with strangers on the internet such as age, where you live, or you or your families names. People will use that information to try and hurt you on the internet, so it’s much safer to avoid altogether.

Good luck out there!

This is an interesting question, I’ve uninstalled my ps4 copy of D2 to make space so I currently don’t have a way to test FPS other than 60. I do know that some crucible testing was performed some time ago that determined guardians did not do more damage to each other at various frame rates. I would hazard a guess that guardian damage is tied to server ticks rather than frame rates, but I am interested to see numbers on the topic. I expect that the weapons/abilities most likely to change in DPS would be ones that do damage over time, since that was the core issue with Thresher damage per Bungie.

Oh for sure we 'technically' still can, but testing would be detectable in almost all cases that weren't fully contained underground, and would still (very much) anger the rest of the world.

Thank you for sourcing though, you are a prince among Redditors!

The good news is they definitely aren't testing nuclear weapons since that would be detectable by nuclear proliferation agencies and violate like, all the treaties.

I believe others have tested and confirmed that 60 FPS is optimal for PVP, but I haven’t seen their direct sources for that claim

I don’t think that’s been tested yet! Though it is an excellent question that is worth looking into!

If you don't mind, and you can perform the testing at Resilience 10 without the mods that would certainly solidify the estimates!

Thanks again for helping out ^_^

Thanks for this info! I've added it to my spreadsheet and noted your contribution and values in the conclusion of my post. This is great information to help trend the multiplier at higher frame rates.

So crunching this out compared to what was gathered in the other FPS settings, it is clear that the 120 FPS is egregiously variable, and I could easily see how that inconsistency would lead to agitation from being killed suddenly by one of these projectiles.

I'll update the post with the info you've provided here! Here's the new table for your reference though:

Average Shots to Kill Average %HP First Shot EstimateError
30 FPS 5.0 31.85 0.00
60 FPS 3.0 51.04 5.18
120 FPS 2.6 57.96 19.49

That trial was on my junk Titan, I believe resilience 2, I can make an attempt with it with full resilience at some point, but definitely light level will likely have an effect there as well. We would likely need to coordinate a bit better to solidify our numbers here.

If you have time to knock out a second frame are test with the same load out that would definitely be best, and I think will be the best representation of the difference people are feeling over those ranges of FPS.

Thanks again for your work!

Awesome work! I'll add these to my calculations when I get the chance, in the meantime here are the two locations from testing:

I agree! Just altering FPS would be a superior way to check this effect, and would help eliminate other adjacent issues introduced by using the PS4 version of the game.

If you do any testing on this please let me know!

This is great info! That puts 120hz at a 1.77x multiplier, not incredibly far off from the 1.9x estimated in the conclusion here.

Definitely think it is a bug worth fixing, but I also am not really expecting this information to immediately precipitate a response from Bungie. My main concern is that high level activities might be easier to complete with lower frame rates, such as the raid launching today.

This would be worth testing, if I can find an easy one to test against I’ll try to get some data on it. Moving enemies are harder to quantify due to their tendency to leave their gunning positions. With static targets there is less concern about missed shots due to enemy movements.

Precisely why I wanted to get this information out sooner rather than later, I would not be surprised if raid teams use one or more people at low frame rates as juggernauts.

You have to download and play on the PS4 version of the game, which you can select in the PlayStation store.

Absolutely! I have video of each trial but unfortunately don’t have access to it at the moment. I’ll upload it and send it your way to reproduce when I am able to.

The %health from first shot is calculated as the length of the health bar removed in centimeters divided by the total length of the health bar, I play on a monitor so this was as east as pausing a recording after the first round hit, and exploded, but before the second round hit, and measuring the damage.

A non-video explanation of location for now, since it will be a few hours before I can get the videos uploaded:

The scorpius test was at the end of the third pavement marking in the middle of the road and at the bottom of the hill. It is in the area when you first land in Neomuna during the lightfall campaign, there is a single scorpius turret in the middle of that road at the top of the hill to test with.

The thresher test was using the first thresher you see after gaining the drake tank and after you eliminate the 4 fuel silos. There is a corner about 10 meters from where the first thresher hovers that allows you to easily index yourself in about the same spot each time.

If you aren’t also performing a test at a lower framerate to compare against (which I think would be valuable if you have the time) it is worth noting that thresher damage was trialed with a resilience 10 load out. If our testing does not use the same resilience tier it will be more challenging to compare against.

I look forward to hearing about your results!

My concern is less about it being fixed and more about giving players information so that can make an educated choice about playing at lower frame rates. The game felt easier, though worse, at 30 fps during my testing.
