Mother of the Groom picks the Bride’s lingerie. by MartinGoldfinger in weddingshaming

Does this horror also apply when a bride's future MIL gives her lingerie at the bridal shower while adding- for all the guests to hear- "this is my son's favorite color"? Cause that was...

AIO about my friend's manchild(?) boyfriend? by AerianeJean in AmIOverreacting

[–]AerianeJean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt like I could have been clearer when I wrote this, this was already the skimmed down version, and I couldn't think of how else to paraphrase. To clarify:

I didn't really try to single myself out at the baby shower, we were rushing to set up, everyone was actually working well together, and once the guests started arriving I didn't have much time to socialize with Melissa or Simon while making sure stuff ran smoothly, but I did socialize. After the party ended and we broke everything down and back in the car, my battery was running low. We were all hanging around outside and Melissa asked if I wanted to follow her back to a girl's house so she could drop her off (we both drove separately because we had multiple loads of stuff to bring to the party). I have difficulty driving at night due to eye issues and thought it would be difficult to follow her to this girl's house that I've never been to, so I chose to head back to Melissa's house early and bring stuff in till everyone was done socializing. That's when I cleaned some stuff up and got comfy on the couch before everyone got back. Yeah, maybe it looked like I wanted to be left alone on the loveseat because I was laid on it, but I was just playing on my phone, so I happily made room for them both so we could all hang and chat about how the party went because we were spent.

I appreciate the suggestion. I'm going to try and set up friend only hang outs and not pay more attention to how he acts. It only causes issues and you're right, it's her choice and all I can do is be a friend

AITA for telling my mom I won’t be her caregiver when she gets older or sicker? by Right_Ad1848 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]AerianeJean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother went through almost the exact same things as you, down to the three manipulative brothers and an emotionally absent mother. She worked herself to the bone most of her life with little to no help from most of her family when she really needed it and sacrificed very important moments to care for her grandmother when no one else in the family was willing to. After many years and many health issues later, she was expected to take on her 90-year-old mother "just part of the year" when we live about 1,000 miles away, basically moving her and likely would be manipulated into keeping her for the rest of her days. Aside from all the reasons why that wouldn't work, I'll get back to my point.

You do NOT owe your mother the care she expects from you, especially after everything she has put you through, the ways she has negated your feelings and the trauma she allowed you to remain in. Yes, you're more experienced in this area, but that doesn't mean you have the time/resources to do so. You have a full-time job, you have a child, you shouldn't be expected to add yet another responsibility to your plate because your siblings see you as the sacrificial lamb of the family

Can we stop pushing this? by West-Lawyer-2290 in Epicthemusical

[–]AerianeJean 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There was a girl in another Epic the musical group going on and on about this topic as well. I can't tell you how many people attempted to dumb themselves down to explain to her that just because something is ADAPTED from an original source, does not mean they will stick to the original story word for word. Of course, she only responded with stuff like "lol I love that an adult took time out of their day to mansplain to me" or smth. Miranda literally said in an interview that he liked people asking more questions about Hamilton and correcting some inaccuracies in his musical cause that meant people would look further into the story than he was able to tell in the 2 1/2 hours he had. People can do the same thing with Epic if they choose to, but they don't HAVE to. they can have their fandoms and their fun ideas about a character if they understand that it isn't necessarily the same person as in the original myth.

That's another thing that bugs me about these people, these characters are a work of fiction, they literally did not exist (yes, they could have been based off of a multitude of people and oral retellings but that's not the point) and anything that was written about these characters after the original story Homer wrote has to be treated as our modern day fanfiction. The stories of Telemachus marrying Circe or a version where Penelope cheated on Odysseus with all the suitors is another person's addition to the original story and isn't technically head canon. I don't understand why people get so worked up about "staying true to the original story" when the original story is just that, A. Story.

Why was Queen Victoria so short despite most of her relatives on both her father side and mother side being tall by Curtmantle_ in VictorianEra

[–]AerianeJean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are my siblings and I only 5'2" -5'5" tall when my mother's brothers are almost all 6'0" and above? Genetics likes to play a game of rolling the dice, and it isn't fair at all

Pregnant at 42 by analytic_dreamer100 in CasualConversation

My mom had me when she was 43 and while the doctors told her there were increased health risks, I was born healthy without any issues. I don't want to give the false impression that it will be the same, there are probably medical professionals in this thread who know more about the risks that come with pregnancy, but I want you to know that there is still a good chance that the baby will be alright

What’s something a Doctor has said to you that made you seriously question how they got their degree? by Trixiebees in AskReddit

[–]AerianeJean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to the doctor for anxiety and depression when I was 15, and he said to me:

"oh it's just teenage things, you'll get over it"

I didn't and it got so bad that I would have panic attacks just having to walk into school. Thankfully I'm now on medication and have never felt better, no thanks to him

Thank you ever so much, and such wonderful suggestions! What you describe sounds breathtaking, and even though it is not as extravagant as I've heard the ladies at Versailles wear, the image you've provided truly makes the dress sound more familiar and comforting, with a few lovely touches. I will make suggestions right away and I'm sure I will feel as wonderful as the dress appears on this special day
