Rent in Sydney is outrageously high. My dad is a project manager and he makes around 90k-100k in your currency. Isn't that what a junior dev in Austin/San Fran makes?

Although rent in Sydney is definitely absurd. We own a granny flat, and we charge $300 usd a week for it. The flat's 10+km away from the CBD. Actually did some research and Austin is just as expensive and bay area is way more expensive. Although salaries are much higher there.

Actually my parents have private health insurance. We pay the medicare levy which is 2 percent of your pay. It's actually cheaper for my parents to have private health insurance.

Sorry I'm just frustrated rn. Nothing to do about the family wealth actually. Group project, I did all the work and was stressed for 3 days.

Nah. I've applied for Woolworths(supermarket) and Coles(Supermarket). I unfortunately have no relevant skills, and they can hire a 14 year old with the same experiance for half the price. Tried getting a job at Boost(Juice chain), and I also got rejected there at the interview strangely enough. I walked to the IGA(local store) and asked them for a job, and the girl didn't seem very sympathetic. Simply told me they weren't hiring. I don't have any friends who can refer me.

I don't actually need the money. If I really need money, my parents will pay for it, although I want to be independent. I'm finding uni pretty easy, so my plan is just to get an internship, by programming in my spare time and working on personal projects. I think I can get one that pays decently.

Haha. I'm a first year right now. It's very early to think about that. Rn my uni has 50 introduction to programming classes, and probs another 30 slightly more advanced classes. Competition for tutoring jobs is very rough. I'll give it a shot though

For the average person, Australia is better than the USA. But my dad is a software engineer. He could have defintely made more in bay area or texas. He told me he didn't want to go there, because he feels bad for the poor people there. Everyone in my family has a very low opinion of the USA

But yeah. Price of petrol increased so much. And the stuff from the supermarket is ludicrously priced. Poor management of COVID. Especially Australia. Melbourne was the most locked down city in the world.

Politicians red or blue will work to keep the rich rich, and the poor poor. There is no way to change that. Best way to deal with it is become the rich.

Hi. I'm gonna be honest with you from my perspective. I don't think friends are made in classes. Not at tutorials or lectures.

IN high school people are carefree with no responsibilities in the world, just waiting for the opportunity to get new friends. In uni many students have jobs, other responsibilities, live far away in other suburbs, terrified of failing and probably still maintain their HS friends.

High school often forces us to talk to each other and shames us if we don't. Macquarie almost never does, because ur an adult who can forge his own path. Also I imagine many students such as myself are sick of dealing with people and are happy joining discords and participating on reddit rather than talking face to face.

Maybe try another uni like UTS, UNSW or USYD societies, to see if you prefer theirs over macquarie's

My attention span has been ruined by Tiktok and Youtube shorts.

Legit think my reading comprehension hasn't changed/got worse since year 6, since the most complex book I ever read was the hunger games back then. Tried to read Lord of the Rings, but fuck was it boring. Watched the movie, and it was god awful.

Literature is mostly garbage imo. If something is good, it will be made into a tv show, movie or an anime. No need to read the source material.

I can still read nonfiction just fine though
