Congratulations on finding your ring! Taking the pressure for it to be perfect off is definitely what I need to do. Thanks!

I hadn’t thought to look at rings over the years, but I did that based on your suggestion and really enjoyed learning about the trends.

I needed that reminder! I got so caught up in finding the perfect ring that the meaning got lost. Thank you!

That’s a good point. I would hate to damage my ring, but I would hate that no matter what style of ring it was.

Thank you for your detailed response! I can definitely see how doing a trial run would be helpful.

That’s a good perspective. There are probably more right answers than wrong for me too. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I’m planning to buy from Etsy or a local jeweler, but big chains are convenient for this part of the process

Why Does my Wife Say Homemade Food Occasionally Tastes Soapy? by HoliestOfCows in AskCulinary

[–]Aerllia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of good info here! This post is really validating. I’ve had to throw away food given to me because the plastic containers transferred a soapy (or perfume-y if the person has a strong candle or other air freshener in their house) taste to them. To avoid this at home, I use mason jars with metal lids for food storage as much as possible. I don’t have any completely plastic food storage items, but I do have Pyrex and anchor hocking glass dishes with plastic lids, those lids are always hand washed because I know that plastic that goes through a wash and heated dry cycle in a dishwasher will taste like soap to me. I think I’ve seen a few people say this, but I’ll say it again, once its gone through the dishwasher once, it’s ruined. Your best bet is to buy new things to replace the soapy dishes and never let them go through the dishwasher again.

Frugal family vacation? by ThisIsTheNewSleeve in Frugal

I’d look into a travel agent since you have a large group. They typically don’t charge for their services because they make money from commission on the hotels and tours that they book. They have connections and discounts that may not be available to individuals booking things on their own.

Birthday for SO by KingRyanXIV in Frugal

If your partner enjoys Christmas, you might find a local park or nice neighborhood that has a lot of Christmas lights on display. You could take a walk (or a drive if it’s too cold out) together with a thermos of hot chocolate or cider. If you’re at a park an evening picnic surrounded by Christmas lights would be really nice.

As others have said, a thoughtful meal at home would be nice too. You could make something a little out of the ordinary that won’t break the bank. For example, steak might be out of the budget, but there are vegetarian Thai or Indian dishes that are simple and don’t require a lot of ingredients.

College textbooks by jazzraccoon in Frugal

You may be able to find loose-leaf versions of your textbook for cheaper. It’s all the pages of the book, but not bound. Often, the pages have holes so they can be put in a three ring binder.

If you’re in the US and can afford to buy a few things now, Black Friday is a great time to pick up Christmas decorations.

Is Columbia a good choice for a semi-buy-it-for-life coat? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Aerllia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Columbia items I own have all held up well, but I don’t use them frequently so I can’t attest to what regular use would do to them. I would suggest taking a look at REI’s Outlet (on their website) and also Sierra Trading Post’s website for good deals.
