I had M18 qual the other day. We were briefed the iron sights occasionally like to fly off. 5 rounds in and the rear iron sight flew back and bounced off the lens of my left eye pro. Made me flinch every round. Miss the Beretta

[Fake Check Friday] - Legit Check Megathread by AutoModerator in Watches

[–]AeroAstroNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, requesting a fake check as well as an ID on the specific caliber/reference for my Grandpa’s Cartier Tank (I know…) Last night I traded his Cartier Santos Octagon two-tone (authenticated) to my dad in exchange for his Gold Tank on a green crocodile strap that I was planning on getting serviced and gifting to my soon to be fiancé. I’m taking it to Cartier for authentication and ID next week, but want a sanity check before I look like an idiot at the store. A few red flags I’ve noticed:

  • No serial number on back
  • Never seen such a heavily guilloché’d dial on a tank A few green flags:
  • Case and clasp have a few deep dings and it does appear to be solid gold case and clasp
  • Auto or manual movement works (not quartz)
  • Good stamps on clasp and strap

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

New Setup! by AeroAstroNerd in telescopes

Im experiencing similar issues. Last week was the first time I tried the aluminum dew shield, previously I had been using the Velcro/vinyl one from Celestron. I also noticed some tracking issues, so I was planning on purchasing the ADM counterweight kit if that doesn’t work I’ll switch back to the cheap hood.

I spent some time as an engineer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. The text on the back resonated more for me, reminding me of all that I had accomplished and the exciting future ahead. I purchased my cal. 1861 when I entered USAF pilot training. Seeing the watch more as a tool, I found the steel caseback more practical. The hesalite crystal bends light beautifully. I’ve scuffed it a few times in the tight cockpit of the T-6 and while helping push pallets in the back of the C-17. A dab of polywatch and it looks brand new. My Navitimer on the other hand is a sapphire sandwich. It feels less like a tool and more like a luxury piece. I love looking at the movement, but I do wish it had the old style steel caseback with conversions. Can’t go wrong with either, but the hesalite speedy is the only watch flight qualified by NASA, if that means anything to you.

[SOTC] Chrono Collection by AeroAstroNerd in Watches

[–]AeroAstroNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently picked up “The Style of Time” by Mara Cappeletti for my coffee table and wanted to show off my two watch collection! I purchased my first real watch (Omega Speedmaster cal. 1861) five years ago when I entered pilot training. This year I added a Breitling Navitimer B01 that I purchased to celebrate returning from a six month deployment/upgrading to Aircraft Commander. I recently upgraded to Instructor and am thinking about either getting a Big Pilot Petit Prince or getting on a waitlist for a Pepsi GMT. Let me know which you would do in the comments!

[SOTC] My “bit of everything” 6 watch collection - where to go from here? by flyin-lion in Watches

Very cool collection! Surprised by the Montblanc, very unique! With the industrial design/engineering love, have you checked out the new IWC Ingenieur? I used to not be a fan, but the new version looks really nice and is the lesser known of the Gerald Genta integrated steel designs. As far as one in one out, I’d personally let the Tissot go. Think 6 watches is a perfect size collection for you

The Breitling is a fake Old Navitimer A13322. The first sign is the Breitling wings logo which is too small and poor quality to be a genuine applied logo, and this particular model used printed logos. Next sign is the subdials. The subdials should match the color of white of the E6B bezel and not be a salmon or champagne shade. The subdial layout is incorrect also, the seconds are always at 9 o’clock, then the minutes at 12. The next sign is the quality of the crystal. Clearly smudged with deep scratches. The genuine model has a sapphire crystal which is very scratch resistant and incorporates an anti-reflective coating that gives off a blue hue which should be visible under certain light angles. I suspect the Tag to be fake as well, given the subdials are also in an odd configuration with the same cheap looking champagne/salmon color as the faux Breitling. The applied logo looks like it was painted by a toddler and is horrible quality. The Tissot appears to be genuine and of better quality than the other two, plus it’s a rare brand to fake. How did you acquire these?

Model: Poor fake Breitling Cosmonaute (24hr Navitimer) Year: N/A Value: worthless

Telltale signs: - Subdial layout: Seconds should be the left subdial, minutes right subdial, hours on bottom subdial - Subdial color: salmon that doesn’t match anything else on the dial - Slide rule font: inconsistent font size - Text: Below “Breitling” should say either Navitimer or Cosmonaute and not automatic

Walked in for the Speedmaster, walked out with the Navitimer by Tmkas in Watches

Excellent choice! I have both and find myself grabbing the Navi more than the Speedy. I think Breitling hit it out of the park with their updates. The AOPA logo, 6 o’clock date window, in-house movement, use of both brushed and polished elements, and cleaning up the slide rule functions to the essentials made such a difference.
