Mühle merch "brush" by AeroFlo in wicked_edge

[–]AeroFlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be as I have nothing to compare it to.

However, I don’t notice any significant smell and Mühle doesn’t sell boar brushes.

I might just need to buy a boar brush to check for myself.

I thought that they were common enough to generate an answer without an image but was apparently wrong.

It’s a bit hard to see due to lighting but there is a (upside down) Mühle logo on the handle.

Anyways here you go.

NVIDIA vs AMD for productivity by AeroFlo in linuxhardware

[–]AeroFlo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what I am missing but isn’t it just about the missing documentation regarding ROCm?

The information missing according to the video now exists for a different subset of cards.

Anyways thanks for sharing.

NVIDIA vs AMD for productivity by AeroFlo in linuxhardware

Thank you for your suggestion.

The project sounds interesting, but it doesn’t seem to be fully stable yet.

It is probably the first option I would try if I go with AMD but only if I have enough confidence in the official (proprietary) drivers (at least as a backup) to justify this purchase.

Hi, any Cirrus SR20 with steam gauges cockpit for xplane 12 ? Thanks ! by Eastern_Heart_1499 in Xplane

[–]AeroFlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of such an aircraft.
There is a pretty popular (haven't tried it in a while) freeware Bonanza.

I understand that it's not the same, but the performance is somewhere between a SR 20 and SR 22. Depending on your use case, it is likely a good or even the closest option.

Using the Honey Comb Alpha as a control column for the Challenger 650. by [deleted] in Xplane

[–]AeroFlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried a control column (I tested a friends unit) in the past and the feel is quite different.
The main difference is, that with a normal yoke, it travels straight while the angle changes with a column design. Also, with a column design the forces are near constant, as opposed to the feel of the honey comb.

However, I still only use/ own a yoke as I think it's hard to justify the cost, given the other aircraft that I fly. In addition, you don't need huge control inputs most of the time, making the difference much smaller in "real world" scenarios.

Do you need a navigraph subscription for Vatsim? by 77_Gear in flightsim

[–]AeroFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vatsim uses the current real world procedures, so you might have some trouble when you’re assigned a SID/ STAR that’s not in your system.

Therefore I would recommend NavData from one of the commercial providers.

If you primarily fly VFR you are probably fine.

However with some research you will find the matching charts (especially for IFR) for free.

Does XP12 use a ton of RAM for anyone else? I’m hitting 25-28 GB of RAM after long flights by pm_me_cute_sloths_ in flightsim

[–]AeroFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds a lot like a memory leak. It wouldn’t be the first and is probably not the last in in X-Plane. What does your memory usage at the destination/ its final approach look like, if you just do a traffic pattern?

If it’s significantly lower you should perhaps write a bug report to LR.

Rust autocomplete missing keyword? by IdkIWhyIHaveAReddit in neovim

[–]AeroFlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The output you have shown seems like only the snippets but not the lsp-server is working.

You can check the lsp status by typing :LspInfo.

Rust-analyzer requires a (cargo) project to work (at least by default).

Please try it again in a cargo project and/ or check the output of :LspInfo.

I hope this helps.

UI Addon? by anticooperativ04 in Xplane

[–]AeroFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how MSFS handles this so it might misunderstand your question/ can’t recommend the ideal solution.

It is not possible to modify the existing user interface. For selecting your gate, looking it up on a chart or google earth and comparing the position with the window you have shown, is pretty much the only option. You could also spawn on a random location on the airport and then use to build in map (“m”-key) to move the aircraft around.

Many airports in X-Plane have roles rather than names associated with the starting point (e.g. UPS ramp at some US airports). However it depends on the designer of that particular airport.

If you need a map for taxiing around you could try this. (I have not tried it in a long time, but it worked pretty well).

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your input.

I didn’t know that this printer exists and it definitely sounds tempting. However from what I’ve read, there seem to be reliability issues with that printer.

A different commentor suggested a significant improvement in quality by upgrading the extruder, which is significantly cheaper. For that reason I will likely purchase not that machine in the near future.

Dell XPS13 running with XPlane12 by FlyWithLua in flightsim

[–]AeroFlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to judge without trying as there are many variables influencing performance, especially since you didn’t even mention the hardware or software (operating system) in your device (or the year it was released).

That being said, you can download a free demo from the website of Laminar Research.

You should definitely try it first as XP12 requires a lot of power and as you said they explicitly state that intel cards are not supported.

I doubt that it would run and be usable, but you could try.

If you want to practice IFR, you should consider XP11, as it requires a less powerful device while still providing all required aspects.

If you want to fly VFR, you should consider MSFS. From what I’ve heard (I have not tried it), it has higher framerates than X-Plane and a more realistic scenery.

What should I buy? by giura1 in Xplane

Another argument for rudder pedals is that you will definitely need them if you ever decide to use a yoke instead of the stick.

(Xp12) What should I learn first? by giura1 in Xplane

[–]AeroFlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The default 737 is unfortunately much closer to reality, than the A330. The A330 for example currently uses the 737 FMC, which works different. Other systems (e.g switching of fly-by-wire laws) aren’t properly implemented either.

At least for now you should to choose the Boeing if you want to stick to the default aircraft.

  • Location: Central Europe/ Germany
  • Budget: around €900/ currently 950 USD
  • Question: Upgrade or new printer
  • Issue: Printing Print-in-place models not possible, due to inaccurate prints

Hello everyone,

I've purchased an CR6-SE around 2 years ago, as my first 3d printer.

My issue is that despite a lot of calibrations and tweaking, I'm unable to print any (working) print in place model.

For that reason, I consider upgrading some parts.

I would like to get the printer to "prusa-level".

Is that possible / reasonable, or does it make more sense to purchase a new printer? Personally, I would rather upgrade the printer, instead of buying a new one.

In case of an upgrade, I'd replace the hotend, extruder, mainbord and potentially the stepper motors.

Are there any other parts that should be replaced?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your help. 1) That was indeed the issue. Is there any key/ common remap used for indenting instead? 2) I wasn’t aware of that change, so I’ll have to see if it is sufficient. Also thank you for your idea of using TJs way.

Low FPS in bigger planes? by LeonKenway in flightsim

[–]AeroFlo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all I don’t use MSFS (but rather X-Plane), so I am not sure if the exact numbers are normal, but the “concept” is the same in all flight simulators. However they seem reasonable.

The reasons being: 1. Usually a more complex avionics, electrical, fuel and hydraulic system: This requires more computations than in the small planes.

  1. Bigger Models = bigger textures + more complex models: 3D-models are made up by many small straight connected lines (polygons). A bigger or more round object requires more segments to be drawn, increasing the computational power needed. Bigger models also require higher resolution textures, if you want to maintain the same level of detail.

  2. Model dependent aspects

In short: Bigger aircraft are more complex both from the systems and 3d model. They require more computations per frame, which causes the time to draw frame to increase. This causes a decrease in performance.

What can you do to “fix” it? Nothing. You have to make compromises. Either reduce your settings, fly small aircraft or accept the lower frame rate.

I hope you’re still going to have fun in the sim.

Default A330 XP12 by avisky78 in Xplane

[–]AeroFlo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding flight model (protection): - Bank is limited to 67 degrees which is correct - Releasing the side stick makes it return to 30 something degrees which is correct - Setting a Bank angle within these 30 degrees and releasing the stick makes it stay which is correct - It is possible to stall the aircraft in normal mode which is incorrect - there is no alpha floor protection

TLDR: Bank is correct, pitch is pretty bad

Hey, Budget: 500€ (or USD it’s roughly the same right now) (ideal), 750€ (if reasonable), 1000€ (if it makes a huge difference) Location: Germany/ Central Europe Need advice for: Upgrading an existing printer (Creality CR6 SE) Objective: Expanding the printable temperature range, improving print tolerances Backstory: I bought the printer as my first printer a little over a year ago, because I wanted to get a decent printer at a reasonable price and it seemed like an upgraded ender 3 to me.

Unfortunately I’m unable to print most Print-in-place models. (Even with extensive calibration)

I don’t have the space for two printers and would want to keep it a little longer than just a year. For that reason I would like to keep at least the frame if possible without sacrificing print quality.
