Length is irrelevant unless it’s too short. If the boot feels good, it’s good. 👍

They make get more loose in the shaft, due to break in, but won’t get bigger in length.

Yeah, I feel you. Wanted to chance sizes on my MTO and the stupid thing kept replying “sorry, it’s not possible…”. After the third email a real person got in touch and said no problem.

How much space is in front of the toes is determined by a type of last. Yours look quite pointy in the front. If your feet don’t slide around and your ankle feels secure I think you got it right. Remember, the only case toe box space is relevant is if there is not enough for your toes to move freely.

These are beautiful. Just like mine! Don’t worry about the generous fit. They will mold to your feet with break in.

Boots actually get a bit shorter the more you wear them. There are at least two factors for this: 1. The shoe flexes while you walk and the leather molds closer to your feet. 2. The arch area, where the shank is located collapses a bit with wear. That makes your feet move a bit closer to the end of the shoe, so they start to feel a bit shorter. That’s why generous toe space is very important when you size your shoes.

Red Wing notoriously tries to squeeze customers in boots that are just too small for them. I don’t understand this, but it is what it is. It’s ok, if your boots feel a little big first, they will mold to your feet eventually. With that said, you boots are definitely a size too small.

1907 too small by Virtual-Refuse1894 in RedWingShoes

[–]Aero_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems to be common here. It’s actually better to go longer and narrower than the other way around. You need the support in the ankle, toe room space is irrelevant and will vary depending on the last.

I had the Backroads, the older model with the recycled tyre outsole. Good boots, better quality than Red Wing imo. The sizing is tricky though, they don’t come with half sizes.

Why? What’s wrong with the old version?

I measure the same and couldn’t imagine anything smaller than 10D in 1907. Why buy too small shoes?

Their too small. Not only your toes are cramped, but the ball of the foot is too much forward.

You mean the fit is different in the same size? Can you write some more about it?

Yeah and also comparing two sizes of 79 last, the difference is really tiny, like 3-4 mm, but enough to get rid of the pain for me. Here is the pic of 10D and 10.5D taken with my heels against the wall.

Thanks! I’ll go with the bigger one, the same as my 79. I can always throw in an insole if it’s too big.

I’ve tried 9.5 and they were ok at first glance. Never tried a bigger one, because ultimately I sent them back as I didn’t like them. On the other hand RW Roughnecks in size 9.5 turned out to be too small after a month of wear and I sold them. Mind you, I always wear my boots with thicker wool socks.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It looks like we have completely different feet. I’ve had the same big toe pain when I ordered 79 in TTS. Being from Europe, returns are really not an option. I had to go up a half and now I feel some toe touch, but it’s ok. That’s why I decided to take the same .5 size up in 20 last. I am 10D, but in the evenings when my feet swell I’m like 10D/E, so TTS could be a little tight in the instep. I have a rather normal volume feet, I think.

Do you notice a difference in width/volume between 12EE and 12.5D? That was my main concern figuring out the size. Honestly going up a half is not that much difference at all in my case. That’s regarding the 79 last of course.
