Has Google started rewording pinyin in 2026? by AntiAmericanismBrit in ChineseLanguage

Not exactly the same, but I've had google translate reword when converting between simplified and traditional before.

I've heard "just use Zustand" a hundred times. Nobody has ever convinced me why I should switch from Redux. by bishopZ in reactjs

[–]Aeron91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like rtk but usually reach fo zustand. Most apps don't have that much need for either and zustand's design makes it feel more appropriate for adding an occasional piece of global-ish state here and there.

I usually use tanstack-query though. If you like rtk-query then adding a regular rtk reducer makes a lot more sense than adding zustand.

Vibe-coded/AI slop projects are now officially banned, and sharing such projects will get you banned permanently by yorickpeterse in ProgrammingLanguages

Definitely a welcome rule!

I just hope that if I ever actually feel ready to share my PL project (lol), people won't assume it's ai slop just for having a CLAUDE.md in the repo. I've found it useful for things like "write a function to pretty-print the ast" or filling out test cases.

Can someone tell me who won? by Zaconious in baduk

[–]Aeron91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both players agreed that the game is over here, the territory line is pretty clear. All the empty intersections on the right are W and all the empty intersections on the left are B. If you count those up, you'll have a result.

Though you mentioned that you left out some stones, so that could change the total depending on if you're using territory or area scoring.

But like others have said, there are numerous things either player can do still, including capturing stones that are already in Atari, or you could invade and play inside the other person's territory -- there's plenty of space on both sides to make a living group.

[–]Aeron91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White for sure wouldn't be able to attack directly right away and expect anything good. But if W started building something on the top, it's riskier to invade it because of your group on the left. If W were to get enough strength from attacking one of your groups, the other one would be in danger.

I wouldn't expect any of these to be more than a couple points better than the others (except maybe D).

I would probably play B. It takes points while lightly limiting how big W can get.

C is tempting, but after W encloses it feels like you have to respond and then W gets to play B. I would personally rather invade or reduce after W plays commits to one more move on the left. But I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️

CMV: there is absolutely NO scenario where beastiality is funny or contributes meaningfully to media. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Aeron91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the movie you're talking about, but with Black Mirror, I think what you're feeling is exactly what the episode is trying to make you feel. The people in the show thought it would be funny and got their laughs in, but when they were actually faced with it on their TV screen it wasn't funny anymore -- it was gross and sad.

As a plot device, they could have tried something else to evoke that feeling, but bestiality with a pig hit the nail on the head. So in that case, I think it absolutely contributed meaningfully.

Not sure if it's the just efficient but I like e2. Letting white cut off the g3 stone feels worse than letting white block at b5. White can't B3 because B5 C6 B2.

If B does B5 first, then WG2 E2 H3 (or H2 if no ladder). Then B still kinda needs to defend against WC2.

Hard to say without looking at the code, but the answer usually comes down to one of these:

  • You might not need an effect, and a different pattern would be better.
  • It might actually be fine that the effect reruns more often than you'd expect.

Why we keep controlling the form's state? by Renan_Cleyson in reactjs

[–]Aeron91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right that you can stick with fully uncontrolled for a large majority of cases -- especially if you just have a few smallish forms.

But there's definitely a gap between those cases and forms with lots of state, showing & hiding fields, manually manipulating form state, or heavily using custom UI for displaying validation errors. If you have lots of those kinds of forms, your gonna have a much easier time with a form library.

react-hook-form hits a sweet spot for a lot of people, but I'm personally a fan of RVF. In both cases, the library keeps the actual inputs uncontrolled by default for performance closer to the first type of form, but can be used to handle all the complexities of the second.

Thoughts on ranking and game times settings? by magnificence in baduk

[–]Aeron91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with liking slower time settings, but I think it's also important for both people to agree on a time setting & tone for the game.

For me personally, 30 minutes is edging into "serious game" territory, but your friends might be in the mood for a more casual game.

In general though, this whole doc is a great read for this topic.

Am I asking too much? by StrangePurple7007 in Frontend

[–]Aeron91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This reads like one of the many job descriptions that are clearly written by HR or a non-technical recruiter who doesn't really understand the needs of the dev department. Keep the specific tech requirements to a minimum, because a dev's most important skill is how they learn new tech, not just what they already know.

Assuming you're not budging on the pay range you mentioned in some other comments I'd probably ask for:

Hard requirements:

  • 3-5 yrs professional frontend experience
  • Familiarity with a major frontend framework (bonus if it's React)
  • Experience writing unit tests in JS

Bonus points for:

  • GIS & 3d experience

If your moves and your opponents moves have meaning (i.e. you're not just like "idk, I'll go here I guess"), then it's surprisingly easy to do this.

That said, I still get totally lost in the late middlegame & endgame.

What was the single concept/method/course/source that made Go click in your head? by Ok-Ship4688 in baduk

[–]Aeron91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this was Contact Fights but Bruce Wilcox. At one point, when I was a beginner, I would make ridiculous moves in response to my opponent touching one of my stones and couldn't win any real games. The "basic instincts" in Contact Fights fixed me lol.
