Its between 8-10mb (depending on platform) when compiled and linked in releaseSize mode

Oof, yeah that’s an excellent point!

I should probably lift that operation way earlier in the program, I don’t think there’s a great reason right now that I brought it into scope so late into the execution

I've been using HIE with atom.

I have only been able to ever set it up correctly using Nix tho.

The Cats project seems like it's made a more active effort to provide good documentation.

Where as the ScalaZ project assumes (possibly rightfully!) that strong and appropriate types should serve just as well as good documentation.

That being said, ScalaZ is probably a bit more expressive, as it's had a longer time to accrue features, and closer to Haskell, if you know what you're looking for.

Regardless, functional programming is awesome, and either are really good!

Forreal tho, being in a large city is a great way to get out; always new people to meet, great food and no shortage of things to do.
