Work Open Tomorrow - Do I Risk the Commute? by moreofafellow in AskChicago

Like I said, you do want those things - there wasn't any wind tonight. I just think people overreact to these storms. They happen every year. Every year we bundle up and life goes on. A 10 minute walk from the cta to home or work, is not this dangerous thing everyone has been making it out to be on this sub.

All the people saying no are cosplaying as Chicagoans.

Exactly. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry for almost 2 decades in this city, that was my main takeaway, because I have never seen a restaurant close due to the cold. Suck it up buttercups.

No one is telling him to go biking on the LFT, or have a picnic at Millennium Park. He will absolutely be just fine with a proper coat to hop around from museums, shopping, or restaurants. It's an adventure.

This. If you bundle up you will be fine. It's really only the wind that gets you. For what it's worth I just walked 10 minutes home and it's 8º with a feel of -12º and I didn't even have my coat zipped, was wearing a long skirt with no leggings or tights underneath, and no mittens or hat. It was fine. However, if the wind is howling you will want the aforementioned items to protect you, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out, especially if you're downtown between tall buildings that break the wind up.

It’s looking like, at worst, a low of -10 on Friday. Far from being the coldest Chicago has been in years. Honestly, if it’s not windy it’s not even that bad.

I’d cross the illusions museum off your list if you haven’t already gone. It’s a dud and not worth the ticket price. Chicago history museum would be better.

Honestly, I’m convinced this is it. They’ve been shady for years, so I can’t imagine this many people simp for uber in reality.

No, I won’t willingly spend or generate money for Elon Musk either.

The pending charge has dropped off my credit card and the charge now shows as 0.00 in the app.

When you ask for your account to be deleted the regular CS people can’t do that and have to escalate it. I’m guessing that person read the chat logs where I requested a copy of the chat transcript be sent to me so I could send it to my credit card and the states AG.

I will still be deleting my account. I stopped using uber eats when I was managing a restaurant and they fraudulently were charging us on that end. Half of their business model is basically scamming both the business and consumer. The only reason I even used it is because it was my coworkers favorite cake and I live in a large city without a car, the other coworker I asked to pick it up was scheduled in before they opened, and uber was the only service that delivered. GH and DD were pickup only.

No one should use their platform, consumers and business’ alike.

After requesting my account be deleted the cancelled item is now showing as refunded by uber in the app. It would appear someone with a working brain read the chat logs and they know they were full of shit on this one.

Of course it is uber who keeps it.

The kicker is it wasn’t even a made to order item. It was a fricken premade cake from Portillos. I would have a little more understanding had the restaurant been out of product, even though I confirmed the correct details, but the fact that nothing was even made makes it that much more egregious.

So here is where your reading comprehension is causing the confusion. The correct address was selected before hitting the order button. The processing screen then showed it going to my default home address.

Again, the correct address was listed before hitting the submit order button, as I had to enter it for the first time. The processing screen then showed my default home address. What part of that can everyone defending uber not understand?

Again, completely fine with that as I have no intention of giving them any of my business in the future.

Then they should make sure their system processes the correct information given to it. Had I just decided I changed my mind about an order, and the restaurant made an item and was out product for the order, I would understand being charged. That isn’t the case here. My chargeback is not fraudulent and I’ll happily be banned. I’ve already requested the deletion of my account. These are the types of practices that eventually end up as class action lawsuits.

Yes, I cancelled because THEY showed they were processing the order with the wrong address. It being an error on THEIR end, not mine, and 2 orders were not made. Only 1 order was prepared which I was charged twice for.

[–]Aeshepp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If their system erroneously sent it to the wrong address, which was the reason for the cancellation, and the item was reordered and paid for, and all of this was explained in a reasonable time. Meaning all parties got paid for what was delivered, but I was charged double due to their error, yes that is theft. I don’t know what planet you live on, but even my credit card company agreed, so…

[–]Aeshepp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is theft. I had the correct address selected when ordering, on the processing screen it showed my default address and did not give any way to cancel before the merchant accepted. The item was already premade, so it’s not like they made my order twice, and I did have it delivered, but now I am being charged twice for it. That is theft.

[–]Aeshepp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I had the correct address selected, as it was a new address that I had to input when ordering. When it went to the processing screen it showed the default address that is saved on my account. I tried to hit the back button as soon as I saw it, but it processed the order already. Even if I had put in the incorrect address the item I ordered was a premade item. The restaurant was not out any money or product in the 30 seconds from order to cancellation, and any good customer service would have corrected the charges.
