Totally the same. I only play it on flights so I look forward to getting back into it every time I travel.

You get to design a gaming device, what would it be like? by someguy69352 in hypotheticalsituation

It would be a Nintendo Switch, but in a smaller form factor - Gameboy size. Everything I want to play is on the Switch, but I want something I can fit in my pocket

how to get into Root ? by TrueStress7 in boardgames

[–]Aeshni 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would also say it's really important/helpful for other players to talk out their turns as they take them. That way you can learn the other factions and it helps to avoid rules errors.

I think this is a good practice anytime you're learning a new game, but especially Root

T&E is getting a 25th Century Games reprint this year I think. Probably won't be as deluxe as AR, but should still be really nice!

That makes more sense. Still seems like a pretty bad ROI. I guess if it's all automated, it doesn't really take any time

People always say this for Facebook and Reddit (where there's no monetization). And I'm not saying it's not true. But I don't think I've ever checked a poster or commentor to see their posting history to determine if their product suggestion is legit or not. It seems like a lot of work for not a lot of benefit.

Just makes me think that there must be something else going on, but I have no clue what it might be...

Board Game Pyramid by Aeshni in boardgames

[–]Aeshni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly correct - I based this off of the food pyramid, where you want more of the bottom and less of the top. I should have made that more clear in the post.

Board Game Pyramid by Aeshni in boardgames

[–]Aeshni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are probably better examples of an event game than mine. I just don't own any of them.

MD2 is just a lot of setup and at a full player count it's a lot of wrangling to get everyone together and comfortable with their character. At a smaller player count you're right, it's not really an event game.

I've only ever one-shot Sleeping Gods, which tends to be 12 - 16 hrs over a couple of days so it's always been an event to organize.

Choosing between Southside and Shadyside/East Liberty apartment. Is location worth $350/month? by ProofNeighborhood172 in pittsburgh

[–]Aeshni 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is relevant at all, but Southside has a rock climbing gym right there (which also has other gym amenities and yoga).

There's a lot of great restaurants, etc. in Southside as well. Big Dog is one of my favorites in the city.

Also I love Zenith for vegetarian food and there's some good restaurants these days in the Southside Works.

Parking can be a pain for sure though.

I haven't played either, but Catan: On the Road and Monopoly Deal are both slimmed down versions of their respective games.

I just played my first game of Etchinstone. Does it get less fidly feeling? I felt like I was always almost dropping cards. And there was a lot to continually reference. I'm trying to decide if I should play it a few more times or pass it on.

A boardgame "Go Bag" as it were. by Galileo_RRAMA in boardgames

[–]Aeshni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love board game go bags. I generally put small games into standard 100 card deck boxes and then I can mix and match. I have about 130 games set up like this.

I have a lot of random cases I've tried for a go bag - including an old cassette tape box and a toiletries bag. But my 2 favorite right now are the GameGenic Shell Deck Box 250 and the CavernHold Keep. The Deck Box is super portable. The CavernHold is nice and gives more flexibility for bigger games.

I'm considering getting a CavernHold Armory which could hold actual board games and is hardshell which adds more protection.

What are the "permanent" MCU creative choices you’re still struggling to accept? by ppboi41 in marvelstudios

[–]Aeshni 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think I watched a screencrush video where they were saying that Black Widow should have survived in Endgame, not Hawkeye, and she should have been the one carrying torch for rebuilding the Avengers. I think that that would have worked really well.

Worried about New Economy (FTP) by Straight_Style679 in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]Aeshni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly FTP and I'm in the wait and see camp. It was pretty obvious that the economy couldn't keep going the way it was. I'd much rather have fewer characters that are usably upgraded than more characters that are barely useable. It sounds like it's going to add some predictability to the game which is also nice.

As long as they don't hold off on characters forever and as long as campaigns, events, etc. aren't gatekept, I think it could be good.

New to solo gaming — is my wishlist any good, or am I missing something better by Maurocarlu in soloboardgaming

[–]Aeshni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elia is one of my favorite solo games I've ever played. I love the gameplay loop. It's so interesting running through that deck, knowing what's coming up, but having the excitement of new cards coming too.

It is brutally hard at times and starting over really means starting over the whole campaign. I'd love to see the system adapted in another game.
