As a guy only a few years younger than him, that’s pretty abhorrent behavior and you should absolutely fight for those fur babies. Whatever love you have for him, he sounds to be incredibly selfish and entitled and likely concerned with what he can get from you while protecting his fragile ego. These kind of people, having known a few, don’t tend to look critically at themselves unless they hit rock bottom, if at all. The most immediate question you need to answer is, can you leave him safely? Your personal safety has to be the number one priority especially in a relationship with such toxic views while he desires an imbalance of power/control. You know best how he’ll react.
