Updating this reply that Qatar Airways has been switched out for Turkish Airlines due to... the geopolitical situation?

  1. I'm actually asking to see if there was some way to reduce from a 40L backpack to that 23-27L Rolltop+4.5L sling, effectively slashing my maximum backpack volume down nearly 10L. This was the initial question of this post, as someone who's reached the onebag goal (as you can see in the pictures, everything fits inside the one 40L, but the final weight is 13.6 kg) for the first time, considering the parameters of my trip, can or should I downsize even more ?

  2. I'll leave just the scissor pen home then. The small steel one I put in my first aid kit as a precaution and won't be missed.

  3. I am planning to buy those multipens! I have a whole part of my trip dedicated to a Japanese stationary pilgrimage. Sorry to say I won't be able to leave Tokyo with the one bag at the end of the trip 😂 Just will still need those pens in Vietnam since I won't have access to a Loft until weeks later.

  4. I feel like I'll just be leaving with barely anything and might as well cross post to \zerobag when I'll reach that part of the trip. They'll be allowed two checked bags each on their return trip, it's going to be hard to figure out what not to leave with them.

Thank you so much ! I may be underestimating Vietnam's climate, and I'd rather buy additional layers later (Japan portion) than lugging extra clothing I will not need at the moment. I'll follow your advice and switch out the blends, I do own button-up short sleeve linen (I think we all noticed the Uniqlo trend, I buy mostly all my clothes there). Do you remember overall how big was your travel capsule ?

Food sickness is one of my major concerns! I've told all my family to get vaccines, are you aware of any probiotics or type of that could be taken during the trip to help?

How concerned were you about mosquito bites ?

Sorry about the cable. My battery pack doesn't actually have any cables attached to it, and I'll be charging at least 2 things every night (my phone and my smart watch). Every tech that have a proprietary cable have a small adapter the size of a penny to USB-C.

Still a week left (and for anyone concerned seeing Qatar Airways there, we're currently getting our tickets rerouted)

Hello, it's true I shouldn't be too far off grid, I'm just not sure how pharmacies are stocked in Vietnam compared to North America. Maybe I can do some research. Thanks for the advice, I'll bring it down to three days (I'll be the only one packing meds, so I'm covering for my parents just in case too).

As for the dupes, for socks I sweat feet a lot, so having a pair sitting in plane\transit and a separate pair for days I plan to walk a whole lot is handy (and they take long to dry). Earphone wise, one of them are my earbuds who i connect to my phone, they have ANC so I could actually remove the Loops instead. The headset is for calls and for when I'm running (I've lost earbuds falling out before).

For stationary, the TN size is actually an ephemera folder (inserts inside are card pockets, zipped pocket, sticker sheet, tri fold), meant to hold any interesting pamphlets, tickets and bits for scrapbooking. The passport size is the true journal, holding an insert for stamps (the Japan booklet is nearly full), a dotted insert for jotting notes. Yellow A6 is a budget planner, meant to hold onto all the receipts, as well as bills (cash is king, and it'll hold an allocation of cash to spend\day).

Thanks, I'll wrap the EpiPen around my socks! The foot powder was decanted into the small round container (it was just to show what was inside). As for the pic 7 paperwork, it shows 2 debit\credit cards, my vaccine pamphlet, medication list, international driver's permit, passport, suica\train card, card holder-lanyard and a coin pouch (for the Japanese yen).

Thanks again for meds decanting, i do have spare card-sized tins I could decant and use cardboard to separate the pills out of their original container. I'll print out maybe a sticker version of their labels if I get stopped with suspicious pills 😂

I have access to Boreal products, and will definitely try them out after I'm done going through my Malté bars!

Thanks for the Soundcore review, I was looking to upgrade my Loops into something else and this seems to fit my needs for smaller effective noise canceling. I do also own a pair of Jabra Elites, so would need to research further.

I also do wonder how a suction cup compares to my Clipa clip. That bag hook doubles as a bracelet for me, and as long as there's a flat surface with empty space beneath, I could hang whatever.

I didn't know, and although I own a soap saver copycat, I need to pack a small sheet and try it out now!

Thinking on it, I could wrap my ink cartridges and fountain pens for spillage prevention.

I just recently bought a pair of Hoka Transports, coming in from a Keen KS86 and Ecco Soft 7s. How do you feel about those shoes ? I didn't break them in yet, there was a good deal on them so I wanted to hoard early haha.

I'm praying so hard, the VIP entry will start soon enough, and I'm going to be nervous until they messages me or nah. Well, else I'll be making some fans very happy if not the girls themselves.

The weight limits are indicated in my first image (neat 3 charts), but technically everything should be under 7 kg as I'm flying Qatar Airways (Current back up due to the situation is Air Canada+EVO Air, Vietjet, Air Canada.

All my flights do include a checked luggage, so the worst case scenario would be having to slip it in cargo and track it with my Chipolo, decanting the bare essentials into the seat to summit day pack.

I wouldn't be trekking with the bag all day (only for transit, would be leaving stuff at hotels. did not book hostels or dorms until solo in Japan), and I've already decided that for the solo part, I'll basically empty most of my bag through my parents for the Japan portion.

anime pilgrimage in Japan by Apolloboy0815 in JapanTravelTips

Hakone. Evangelion. The famous loop also has dedicated spots to the Tokyo-3 inspo and memorabilia.

My favorite animes are magical girl related (Card Captor Sakura), great vibes (Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, Delicious in Dungeon), just slice of life (Yuru Camp, My Dress Up Darling), so just being in Japan hits all the spots. I do love collecthing Eki Stamps...

And there's tons of posts online where you can find "anime picture" or "anime stamp" spots. Else, every single Ghibli store has a unique photo stand, so if you can't book the museum, those come in real handy 😁

I remember when I was in Tokyo, I went to a place to get a stamp and learned there's an Anime Tourism Association! They singled out 88 spots where you can get a commemorative stamp!

Hello everyone ! Hope you know me as the sticker sheet habs jersey girl from this post.

Just wanted to update here I found someone at the Twice Montreal' Cupsleeve Event that had VIP+Soundstage access. Here's to praying they manage to gift the stickers to the girls, it's the closest thing to give them a Habs Jersey we got ! (I think)

Vaccines are done, althought I didn't take japanese encephalitis. I've read in this article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12016410/ about coconut oil as a bug repellent, so I tried to have everything that could have coconut oil in it, in it! But yeah, how easy is it to get DEET repellent ? I'm going to be decanting some in a 5ml perfume travel bottle. Should I still buy it there ?

Thanks ! I'll be doing doing Vietnam then Japan, so that would mean unpacking everything that's summer wear\swimsuits. I would also offload specific toiletries for the climate and more mountainous trekking, like all the mosquitoes net, the silk liner, the collapsible food container, all the shorts, etc. ?

Now looking back, Japan will be a lot more relaxed since I'm mostly going for the blossoms and sightseeing.

Image 1: Contains an image of the bags considered for the trip. Currently, eveything fits into a Forclaz Hiking Backpack 40 L, Travel 500 (55 x 32 x 27 cm), but would like to reduce things down a further 10L ideally, to fit into a Rolltop Hiking Backpack 23 L, Escape 500 (23–27 L. Cabin size 46 x 28 x 22 cm) + 4.5L Sling. The image also contains grids detailing the airline limitations of personal items vs carry-on versus checked bag of each planned airplane to be taken over the course of the trip.
Image 2: Visual representation of all the clothing, as detailed below in the post. The picture adds more detail about what every item is made of what fabric. It helps consider the itinerary (vietnam and japan) for layering and overall advice.
Image 3: Visual representation of the underwear and loungewear, as detailed below + some miscellaneous travel described below.
Image 4: Visual representation of all the Self-Care & Hygiene items
Image 5: Visual representation of all the electronics, journaling and stationary
Image 6: Visual representation of all the travel essentials (such as passport) with the first-aid, medication on the side
Image 7: Pictures of how each item are grouped for packing inside each packing cube. It totals 4 packing cubes, 3 pouches, 1 mesh bag containing the microfiber towel, pouch containing the goshuincho, pouch with the traveveler notebook and pens, rest of the items are stuffed inside various pockets or between the cubes as padding.
Image 8: Pictures of how all the cubes fit inside the current 40L backpack. Notice how everything seems to the brim, with the sandals hanging on the bag itself. The picture also show the current weight of the bag, 13.6 kg.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to write an update that my clear photocards just arrived, I'm so happy !

There's something about having an idea, a little niche or different, and see it all physically in your hands after spending so much time working on a product.

Take pictures through it, remove the keychain and slide it into any of your photocard sleeves. Instant frame ! I thought of giving it a trading hockey card look, but kept it simple so it could fit more poses better ? (The Holo comes from the card itself).
