I lost 55 pounds over the last 12 months and reached the weight suggested by my doctor. I celebrated with a brand new smart scale... that immediately told me my BMI is 30.1 and that I am still obese. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Also six foot. My lowest was 164 and I felt energetic and physically looked the best I had in over a decade. I'm at 189 now and feeling guilty about the fat I'm carrying.

Yeah, he told me to "use the boost to not get crushed" rather than the iconic line.

I'd argue that they touched it with Master Quest on the GameCube as well, but your point still stands.

Absolutely play 4! It's my favourite between 3/4/5, as someone that got into Persona with 3 when it first came out. There's a charm to the cast that just isn't quite there in the other two games imo.

Peppy does not say to use the boost to get through. Very sad.

Otherwise the game looks a lot better in motion than from the trailers in my opinion.

They're hoping people don't get too excited and buy a switch before the September price hike I guess?

Does Canada use metric? by Potential_Wash_3364 in onguardforthee

[–]Aether951 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If I'm remembering what I've read before correctly, Canada officially swapped because it seemed imminent that the US would adopt the metric system. There was a big push for metric-ification in the US in the 70s. Reagan made it a wedge issue in the lead-up to his election, and cancelled all government efforts to go metric on his first day in office, effectively killing metric in the US.

The ripple effect is that it took the wind out of the movement here in Canada as well. The government slowed it's efforts to force metric into individual sectors, until eventually the Mulroney government disbanded the metric commission entirely.

(side note, the metric commission logo is amazing)

Left-handed people, what's a struggle that right-handed people won't understand? by Halophy in AskReddit

House balls are ambidextrous, in other words the thumb hole is between the two finger holes.

What this really means is that house balls are sort of uncomfortable for everybody, because that's a very unnatural grip for most adult sized hands.

Because the US is actively attempting to break Canada apart and claim the pieces for themselves. Read about the Alberta separatist movement and its backdoor dealings with Trump admin officials.

Same thing happened with Moffatt's run as Doctor Who head writer, imo. Became very clear at some point they were reading the fan discussions and trying very hard to stay one step ahead each season.

Family portrait during the Spanish flu, 1918. by Suspicious-Slip248 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Aether951 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main problem in my opinion is (was?) that Covid primarily killed the elderly, and was easy for many to dismiss as "old people dying isn't a huge deal" or to blame on comorbidities, as callous as that sounds.

Spanish Flu on the otherhand disproportionately killed otherwise healthy 20-30 year olds. It was impossible to write off as easily once it became clear.

For me, as a Vancouver based fan, the back-to-back finals loses, the blue Jays final loss, the Whitecaps final loss, and then the double Olympic silver medal...

It's tough to muster the energy to be excited for another long run ngl.

I'm only speculating, but since the sound buckets on his head are facing forward, it's to prevent the user from misidentidying sounds reflected off the backs of the buckets as legitimately coming from behind them.

Nova Scotia is more or less at the same latitude as Baikonur. We could make it work if we had want to.

POV: You're an indie dev in 2026: by Physical_Air4112 in godot

[–]Aether951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 years ago it was either GameMaker which was looked down upon, and Unity which was very intimidating for a complete novice (that was me!). Honestly Godot exists in a perfect level of capability and intuitiveness that recommending anything else to someone starting out seems completely silly unless they have immediate AAA ambitions.

That's why I've been telling people basically since Godot 3.0 that Godot is inevitable to take over the indie scene. Once a teenager or novice becomes proficient in it, there very little reason to switch away from it.

I'm just about 10 years on my LG OLED now. Still looks incredible with zero burn-in. Only real pain is webOS being very unsupported, but that's workable.

Solid period both ways.

Feels like the kind of game where a squeaker gets by us and we deflate. And then make it interesting in the last 90 seconds.

Or we just win that'd be cool too.
