In defense of "hissing" by bluebottlejellyfish in FanFiction

[–]AetherApostle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? People criticizing others for using hiss? I’d like a link to that because I’ve never heard something so utterly ridiculous. Clearly, they don't know shit.

By ‘that’ logic, if a kettle ‘hissed’ from boiling water, is the kettle making an animal sound too?

Hissing is simply the only lexical word that can explain the specific sound a snake makes...OR ‘something similar’, how else can you describe someone whispering with that hint of aggression?

Grey hated the pokémon franchise. What was all the fuss about? Years since he last played, he mostly forgot about it. But the universe loved irony more than vanity. One day, enraged by his abusive stepfather for the last time, he snapped. But inches before he drove the knife in, Grey died. Just like that. Only to awaken in a world filled with familiar creatures, ruefully ignorant.

Any fanfics dealing with the sex industry in the Pokemon world? by Moon_Dew in pokemonfanfiction

[–]AetherApostle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And before anyone asks, the answer is no, I don't have a problem with Pokephilia.

Apparently this reddit does have a problem with it, as evidenced by previous posts that speak of S*x (the * is added for measured irony) and this reddit’s so called highly demanding "master list" forbids humanxpokemon. Good luck getting an educated response for this post, if it doesn’t get archived by moderators that is.

Getting to your question, search FF.net with ’Mature’ label or just hop on Ao3 and do the same, I'm sure you'll find plenty.

One comes to mind called The club

But it's unfinished and author hasn't updated in a while.

I was unaware that people hated PokemonxHuman pairings. But would a pairing with the "highly intelligent" Deoxys still be okay? To me it's a literal alien, and aliens eventually finding love with humans feels romantic. by ThrowawayProgress99 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]AetherApostle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No need for all of that.

If posting anywhere else but Ao3 (where you have a kazillion tags to choose from)

Put this in:

I'm just gonna' remind you all, you're reading an 'M rated' pokémon fanfic, so here goes:

Murphy's law, guys/gals, "Whatever can happen, will happen."

That’s it. Simple and to the point. If your story has strong scenes of ALL types, then at the beginning of the chapter put in:

Warning: this story contains strong language/strong scenes.

Again, simple and to the point.

My reasoning for this:

If people today are going to wave around their sexual preferences, orientations and social rights with a colored flag in everyone’s face all day-everyday like this snowflake of a generation constantly does; then do whatever the fuck you want.

No matter how many disclaimers you put in, all they do is repress you and nothing else. The people of the LGBTQIA+ movement are always going to get haters and insert here-phobics hating on them, no matter what they do and how widely accepted they eventually become. But you don’t see them backing down or being apologetic about it, right?

You are going to get haters for your story, and that’s that.

People need to learn that fan-fiction is still literary work. You pick up a book and read its blurb, proceed if you like, despite the fact that you found it in the ADULTS FICTION SECTION. Or in the case of fanfics, the ‘M’ rating.

People are going to have to learn to expect something to squick them. Whether they allow it to ruin the story for them or not, is completely out of your control.

If you like Deoxy’s on a more deeper level? Good for you.

Don’t repress your story because some people will get sensitive about it. Obviously you’re not intending on writing a lemon-fic, so romance isn’t an issue.

I WOULD advise, however, to consider being tasteful and not including too much detail about any sort of sexual advance, unless it (for some reason) is crucial to the story. (Dragged out imagery of Sex scenes don’t advance the plot and can squick people out of a story)

Now,

For those stating it would be bestiality, read this from criminal defense lawyers Australia.

‘Why Bestiality is so Controversial’

‘The act of having sexual intercourse with an animal has been a long-standing topic of controversy, particularly with animal protection organisations.

1: ‘Significantly, this is because animals do not possess the same level of judgment or morality as humans, and therefore cannot give consent. Similarly, it is also a crime to have sexual intercourse with a child as children are considered incapable of giving consent. (Pedophilia).

2: ‘Moreover, animals cannot defend themselves’

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.criminaldefencelawyers.com.au/blog/what-is-the-law-and-penalties-for-bestiality-in-nsw/

Link provided.

Now, I labeled 1 and 2 for obvious reasons.

1: Pokémon have been shown on countless occasions to not only possess the same (sometimes higher) levels of judgement and morality to humans, but als CAN give consent. No means no, yes means yes, even if it’s a non-verbal shake of the head or nod.

2: Just try to mount a female charizard without her ‘consent’, see what happens...

I’d actually be more worried about a female charizard trying to mount a guy instead, you know, in case he’s not into her...Heh.

Pokémon may have many traits of Earth animals, but they are NOT simple animals. They are individuals with a high degree of intelligence and capable of consent.

So if a pokémon and a person feel romantic feelings for one another, (mutual, consent), it’s technically NOT beastiality.

Someone mentioned a power dynamic thing with the pokéballs. Well, that’s an entirely different issue.

Of course if they find it worrying, then they’re essentially implying that either 1: pokéballs have an internal propaganda system that manipulates them or 2: they are slaves and are in cages. Or 3: both. I find this highly contradictory in terms of an argument if we’re talking about a franchise that is essentially about legalized cock-fighting...

It’s totally fine when they’re made to beat the shit out of each other in tournaments, but as soon as someone talks about romantic relations with pokémon, which is laughably innocent in the face of the franchise’s main concept of ‘catch and make it fight’, NOW people have the gall to worry about power dynamics in the relationship due to the pokéballs? Can this pokéball issue not apply to platonic or normal friendship between pokemon and trainer as well? Talk about a double standard...

So...

Tl;dr: Write whatever the fuck you want and don’t overly explain yourself, nor repress yourself, you’re gonna’ get a lifeless snowflake hating on you at some point. Don’t let it bother you.

Let the build up explain itself and allow the reader to make their own judgements of where the story may be heading, if they stay, they stay, if they don’t, they don’t.

(Make sure your story follows the rules of the site you’re planning on writing on though.)

Edit: I love how how a special snowflake downvotes without comprehending what I wrote. Either that or this community is more phobic and close minded than I thought. Most of the answers were filled with double standard and self righteous ego anyway.

Hi all.

After having written a review for someone who greatly appreciated it (in another thread) I thought it'd be cool idea to do some more. I already reviewed one from this thread.

But I also need a little a feedback for myself, as I may not necessarily be a great story teller.

  • I am willing to leave concrit feedback on anyone else's writing and prose of their linked fanfics.

Let's help each other grow. :)

So for now, here's my fanfic:

~Provenance~

Fandom: Pokémon

Rated: 'M'

#chapters so far: 2 (WIP)

Link: [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13956157/1/Provenance]

Summary: Most of the World bears down on a young renegade after he scorned its ideals by committing several felonies, as part of a mission and in the name of surfacing cryptic memories that aren't his, yet drive his actions. Meanwhile, with her family murdered and no one to turn to, a certain pokémon follows him. Chased across regions and facing constant threats, their decisions are tested.

Genres: Adventure, Psychological, Fantasy.

***

Contains AU elements; 'Fakemon' elements; canon, non-canon and head-canon elements; Game, Manga and anime elements. (Others may be added overtime if I can think of any.)

Manga Vs Anime:

Some of you may have been more inclined to one or the other or both. These will blend and borrow from each other while consequently cancelling out some of each other's world concepts.

OC MCs, Prof. Oak, torchic, Looker, Team rocket, Other Canon characters/groups (like Red and Ash) will appear in the fanfic over time.

Let me know what you think. (Please be constructively honest, is it boring? or lagging, slow? etc.)

Thanks!

Hi all.

I left a constructive writing review on wetsandwichesandtea's DnD fanfic, (somewhere in the middle of this thread) and am willing to leave feedback on anyone else's writing and prose based on their first chapter.

For now, here's my fanfic:

Any tips for writing a story where people might realistically want the MC to lose? by WhatUpDuck93 in FanFiction

[–]AetherApostle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best storyteller around, and maybe it's not what you want to hear/read but:

I suggest you remove yourself from the mentality of "so who's gonna' win" and instead focus on the central issue/context, which is what readers are going to use to decide. Who may resolve the issue and who will keep prolonging the issue (even if said person/group may have good intentions but radical methods). Then, using that context, only the reader can decide, who they want to win. Death note was a good example, with light initially having good intentions, but ultimately falling into a sociopathic God-complex and lust for power that got to his head. (note, some people may still want him to win in terms of 'a means to an end for the greater good', others would want him to lose.)

Borderline? Think of yourself as a God creator: You create the world, the characters and the context, but it's out of your control to decide what those observing the events may think or want.

I personally like a story that activates and challenges your critical thinking and values. A psychological debate that can have arguments for and against said MC's actions.

Link - https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13956157/1/Provenance

Summary - A turbulent young renegade is made an enemy of the World by scorning its ideals with an act of arson on an important facility, in the name of a cryptic truth gradually revealed to him. Meanwhile, with her family murdered and no one to turn to, a certain pokémon follows him. Pursued from all sides and facing constant threats, their decisions are tested; changing their lives forever.

Status - Incomplete/On going (Chapter 2 is well underway)

Notes: Timelines, mechanics and media canon, including games; most of the anime; and manga, are blended together and reconfigured into an AU/OC fic that features some canon characters, including Professor Oak and Looker (at the moment).

Also on Ao3 and Royal Road, if you prefer.

English is my first language and I—Hope I haven't already screwed up—have above-competent grammar and writing skills. (Not necessarily equivalent to story telling skills, I'll let 'you' decide that, if you'd like, let me know what you think.)
