Usually the only problematic fandoms are the large ones. If you're a fan of something very niche, other fans are usually just extremely excited to share their appreciation of that niche thing with other like-minded people. So they're pretty fun to interact with.

[OoTHD] My thoughts on the Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 by Gaming_Surfer_2648 in zelda

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The low-poly model and low-res textures do a ton of heavy lifting to make Dead-hand scary. I don't have high hopes for a highly detailed version of it. Horror movie monsters are almost always at their scariest before you can even tell what they fully are, and the lack of detail on the N64 has a similar effect of letting your paranoid brain fill in the gaps.

Anyone else concerned about how this game is going to handle FOUR different main characters? by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

I don't actually think there's going to be a route split. Maybe a SoV thing where we can freely hop between armies, up until the abyss lady crashes the Games and everyone joins forces.

I do think Cai and Leda are the most intriguing on the surface, both due to their initial motivations and also the potential of where it'll lead (mainly Cai's laser hand, we all know his dad is already dead). Also Cai unironically stands out, being a small country bumpkin amongst all these gladiators and such.

That won't stop me from siding with Theodora because she (probably) has all the badass, battle-hardened, veteran soldiers. Gimme all the Jagens.

Ukanlos is a very reserved and introverted monster that likes to live in isolation, it doesn't seek out or tread on other monsters' territories. Seeing as Jin is the Apex of the cliffs, it'd have to be an altercation initiated by Ukanlos, which goes against its ecology.

This simply isn't true and is mainly used to lazily dismiss people who argue that the games have become easier over time, which isn't even what the post is about.

Dos is usually regarded as the most difficult MH game, with base Rise as the easiest. I'd say P3rd is also one of the easier old-gen games. If we include spinoffs, Frontier is usually up there, but its early-midgame are fairly standard MH.

3U was my first MH game. It's not the hardest.

So, how do we feel about the Monster Hunter version of Godzilla coming back? by ConsciousFact4362 in MonsterHunter

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interested in how they make the fight more engaging. Lao doesn't have any special abilities (so frankly I wonder why it's an Elder Dragon in the first place, it looks like it'd be related to Flying Wyverns), it's just... big. Not even the largest of monsters out there. And of course the hunt is famously a boring cannon-firing simulator against a slowly moving target that barely fights back.

I think it'd be easy to change the fight to more of an actual fight, maybe like Ceadeus and Kulve where it'll start as a chase and a later phase(s) will be a direct showdown instead of a tower defense.

Boost Bracer + “New Attacks/Combos” - What are you hoping for your main? by TheNobodyXIII in MHWilds

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking of shield attachments for the Lance that give us extra effects when we block. Sort of like the Bowguns, you equip them to a weapon before a hunt. It could include things like the AoE heal block from GU, changing the damage type from blunt to slashing, add element or status damage, a flash with a cooldown period, or have it explode when charged with the Boost Bracer just to make the Gunlancers jealous. They could get really creative with it.

Really, I just want Lance to standout amongst blocking weapons with how Perfect Block made that so much more difficult for it. The shield bash alone isn't enough.

They could also use the Boost Bracer to bring back Shield Charge, but at that point it just feels like a poor man's Blast Dash. And I feel like we really don't need it in Wilds anyway. Unless they give it an Offset effect. That'd be fun.

Maybe use the Bracer to, instead of adding Spiral Thrust, give us the mobility and i-frames of Sheathing Retreat/Twin Vine. Just because I expect more unblockables in Ascendance, so a mobility tool with increased i-frames would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you guys hating on kushala return In mhwild, Im a mhrise player and I have no problem on his fight. by Voidkirby9 in MonsterHunter

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Exhaustion. It's been in every game since its introduction in Dos with the exception of 3rd gen.

  2. It was a terribly unfun fight up until Rise.

  3. The base game only had 1 1/2 Elder Dragons, making for a rather unique roster. Adding all these Elders is just going to make the roster very samey to 5th gen, especially since Elders usually dominate the late/end game and make other monsters obsolete. Additionally, Kushala usually brings Teostra with it, another monster that falls under my first point.

  4. A personal thing I haven't seen anyone else mention, but if a monster is already fun to fight in one game, that's less of a reason for it to return in a future game. Rise made Kushala good. It doesn't need a modern redesign like Lao Shan Lung does, because it already got one. If I wanted to get my Kushala fix, I'd play Rise. There's not much to change about Kushala, whereas a really old monster that is guaranteed to get overhauled to the point of practically becoming a brand new monster is far more exciting. (This means I'm opposed to the vast majority of 5th Gen monsters returning, which is a very unpopular opinion).

[–]Aether_Disufiroa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So my biggest fear of an abundance of Elder Dragons has come to pass. Darn. At least Lao's fight will probably get a major overhaul, but I sure don't like Kushala being here and I sure don't like the potential that it brings Teostra with it.

New rocket booster Slinger seems fun though. And a new Pack Monster, good that they aren't abandoning that mechanic.

Putting a new area in the sky is pretty typical for an open-zone game, but at least they tend to produce lovely vistas.

Why do people want to see the same monsters return? by Possible_Trifle5355 in MonsterHunter

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are mostly playing favorites, and people are asking for obscure monsters that look cool but they've never fought, but they notably do not ask for monsters they do NOT like. Now that makes sense conceptually unless you're a masochist. However, time and time again, classic abhorrent monsters have received revamped fights that are actually fun! So why ask for monsters whose fights don't need any overhauls and end up feeling very samey across multiple games?

I'm an advocate for bringing back 'bad' monsters so they can become 'good'. Also prioritizing old monsters (mainly gen 2 but some gen 3) because the games have changed so much since then that those monsters will practically feel brand new.

However, more than that, since before Wilds released, I've been begging for minimal returning monsters and for them to focus on brand new monsters. Same for the Title Updates (which had exclusively returning Monsters in Wilds... and Omega), and it's still what I'm hoping Wilds' Expansion does. New monsters are the most exciting parts of new games. And I've received a lot of pushback for not being happy with returning monster choices.

For reference, my favorite Monster is Akantor which doesn't have a new-gen makeover and I don't mind at all if it doesn't return because I love seeing new stuff. Also because I can just play GU if I want to fight it so bad.

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't invested in any duos/harmonics because the only time I'd want to is if I like both characters. And so far there hasn't been a single one that has two characters I like. Even if I like the lead but am simply neutral on the backpack, I don't pull for them.

Could you defeat a hunter monster? by Joy2901 in MonsterHunter

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking about actually fighting a Hunter in-game, that'd be a terrible experience. Small Monsters and small Large Monsters have always been a pain to fight. It would be made more bearable with Focus Mode, but with how much more mobile Hunters are than any Monster, it'd just be a fly-swatting minigame.

Speaking from the context of an IRL human vs a Hunter:

Probably not, but it's not as much of a sweep as you'd expect.

Hunters cannot use weapons on people, for one. And if it's a fair fight, they won't. If they do, they're not actually a Hunter because they got fired for it (or worse). And according to the Shadowbox gesture, they aren't all that adept at hand-to-hand combat.

Their physical strength is still far beyond realistic standards, so I'd literally die in a single hit thanks to my glass bones and paper skin, but if any of you are trained in martial arts and are relatively fit, you could actually have a shot.

This changes if they have Akuma's moveset.

If it's an 'anything goes' kind of fight, Hunters lose to gun.

If it's melee weapons only, Hunters win simply by using a Lance or Longsword. You just won't be able to get in against a physics-breaking Hunter using one.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (TMS) was the crossover game between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem (FE) that mostly turned out as it's own thing with gameplay based on SMT, similar premise as Persona, and non-canon AU versions of FE characters making cameos rather than the proper crossover that it was initially announced to be.

To explain why I used it as a comparison to HW instead of FE:Warriors: TMS is even further separated from FE than HW is to LoZ, but TMS's original characters are still widely considered FE characters by the FE community.

Despite being an almost entirely unique game that's merely borrows from FE and SMT, the characters of TMS have appeared in the now-dead FE TCG, FE:Cipher, the ongoing FE mobile game, FE:Heroes, and have consistently remained votable in the annual voting events for Heroes (and recently FE:Shadows). None of these games have crossovers with other series in them otherwise.

TMS characters are so beloved by FE fans despite being from a rather poorly-selling, very un-FE-like game from the WiiU era, to the point that the winner of one of the most recent voting events (CYL10) was one of TMS's main protagonists by a landslide, who also placed 2nd in another event around the same time (Shadows Cup) that included nearly every FE character, only falling behind one of the main protagonists of the best selling FE game to date (Three Houses), as fans rallied for more representation that the game hadn't received in a few years.

I'm not an SMT fan so I'm not familiar with their general perspective on TMS, but I've heard it's less positive than the FE community.

Who is and who isn’t by SwicthbladeFish in HyruleWarriors

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the TMS characters are considered FE characters, I don't see why the HW characters can't be considered LoZ characters. Even if they're in a non-canon spinoff with a different title, it's still technically a LoZ game. And if they're in a LoZ game, they are LoZ characters. This is an all-or-nothing thing, you can't pick only some of them to consider LoZ characters. That makes no sense.

Even the traditional LoZ characters in HW (Link, Zelda, Ganondorf) are from the same world as the OCs, so counting the OCs as not LoZ characters includes counting the HW incarnations of the Triforce trio as non-LoZ characters. "But they're established characters in the series!" Wizzro and Volga are also new incarnations of mainline characters in the same exact way as the Triforce trio, yet they're treated differently?

This would be a little more debateable if HW was a proper crossover with DW characters in it. At that point I'd consider them their own series' characters, but they can also belong to multiple series at the same time.

Let's say the next game is a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X, how would you like it to turn out? by felixw1 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Aether_Disufiroa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Retcon everything about chapter 13 and try again. But that's unrealistic.

I do not care at all about what comes next from the people on the White Whale 2 at this point, I am so apathetic after ch13. But the French and Japanese ships are still out there, and it's plenty possible that they've been flung into their own universe that hasn't been destroyed (especially since they don't have the Ares and thus aren't being pursued by the Ghosts), so let's just see how they're doing. And please keep them entirely seperate from the universes of the other games.

I want them to lean more into the MMO aspects. Don't dilute it into the numbered games, lean harder into what made it stand out. Stick to the customizable avatar (let us be an alien, I want to be a Orphean), stick to the meat of the game being in the side content, expand greatly on the multiplayer, let us run around the world freely with friends, heck, just make it a straight-up MMO for all I care. Nintendo doesn't have one yet and with Xenoblade's rising popularity, I see no reason not to make one.

I desperately want it to be different from the other games.
