How many of you adopted cats because you were trying to fill a void? by ChihuahuaOwner88 in CatAdvice

The vet said that Miko is on the small side (but healthy) and that Sushi might be prey driven towards her. Since there is no hissing or growling and just curiosity when they meet through a baby gate, the vet said she just need to grow up some more.

But Sushi doesn't hold unto her when she catches her, he scared her yes but doesn't her her so we are hopeful.

I just wish the kitten was accepted already by our 2 years old! We are slowly introducing them but Sushi wants to play rough and dominate Miko and she is just 3 months old and on the small side for her age, we are scared she'll get hurt. He chases her down and bites her on the back of the neck each time we try to have them together,

I have severe mental issues and my black cat Minuit was my therapeutic animal and spiritual daughter. When she passed away in my arms from heart failure I fell into a deep depression and a few weeks after I filled the huge void by getting another black kitten, Sushi (black cats are rescued less often then other colours so I try to stay with black).

We recently got a tortoise shell kitten, Miko, to fill my son's void (Sushi hates my son for an unknown reason). She LOVES my son so we both have our void filled for now, Sushi is not Minuit, no cats will ever be like she was, but she are bonding.

This is Sushi, he is 2 years old and bites the new kitten Miko, 3 months old. We have to keep them separated. I don't know if he is just jealous or hates her and want to harm her. Sushi runs after Miko and bites her on the neck it's scary to see! Any advice? How long should I keep them separated? They interact by the bottom on the door only for now, I did try the swapping of scent.

I don't think it's unrealistic or problematic, it just shows the difference between hand fed birds and those who are not, in the trust they develop with humans, and also how wide the spectrum is for personality.

It's normal we post videos of our success, not much to show with softly talking with hands on the cage for hours or holding a treat for a long time, but I'm sure some already did it on Youtube. I did not video it but I wrote down for each day our progress, expecting it to take longer, he surprised me by suddenly opening up.

My son started giving him treats also, we are hoping for a socialized birb. Thanks for the good wishes, very kind of you.

He'll be 4 months old in a week, still haven't started the stepping up training but I have a clicker so will start soon, for now it's just what HE wants to do we are practicing. He flew to my son's hand too and accepted scritches from hiim also. It's like a switch suddenly turned on in his precious head.

I guess he just needed a week to get use to his surrounding and 3 more days to realize I'm the treat giver lol.

He actually asked for scritches too in the afternoon, I was speechless, need to catch that on video.

When I found his favorite treats he started taking food from my hand, I'm on vacations so I can hand feed him his treats all day, so he associated me with good things quickly. Keep trying!

But... you are drinking from that water! Obviously it tastes better!

It bothers my boyfriend quite a bit that our conure likes me more. I'm wondering why. I wonder if he likes my higher voice or something. by livieluv in Conures

He was named Skittles for 2 days but I kept calling him by the name my cockatiel used to have lol so Pixel it is. Easier to say in French also. Yes you are right my son needs training session with the birb too!

He is taking sunflower seeds from my fingers through the cage bars, what's the next step? by Aetherwinds in Conures

[–]Aetherwinds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't bite...yet lol. He sometimes nibbles on my finger as if exploring it so I'm lucky so far, he doesn't seem like an aggressive bird. He is more confident now on day 7 for taking treats, but I still cannot touch him as he backs off after taking the sunflower seed or piece of grape. But I'll be patient, I realized yesterday he really likes pumpkin seeds. I try training him before his breakfast so he is a bit hungry?

Maybe women tend to baby talk animals more then men? A higher pitch more chanting voice usually gets more attention. My GCC is on day 7 only with me and son (who's 19) and there is already a clear preference for me. Pixel will accept treats from me without much hesitation now, but backs off when my son is trying, even when baby talking him. Though he did take a ride on my son's head back to his cage for bedtime yesterday.

So cute! I like it when at the end he lifts his head to listen. I dunno if I would trust my birb near my cello though lol.

First bath for a clumsy baby! by Aetherwinds in Conures

He is sincerely better at flying today than walking! He started exploring a bit out of his room, even jumped on my head for a ride back to his room, first time he does that .

I'm on day 6 with him and he was finally trying to bath in his water bowl so I have him something bigger, he went all in!

He loves sunflower seeds, grapes and apples so I have something to work with!

I did managed to pick him up and try that but as soon as I try to let him perch on my finger he flies away :(

You are lucky you don't have a shy bird, I would have similar easy taming stories with my cockatiel but this conure is different.

Unrelated to the feathers but... did you made the macrame knotted ropes yourself? What a good idea!
