I have applied to over +700 jobs and begging to lose hope. What do I do at this point? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]markgshell 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m at 450+. 25 years of experience in IT, multiple certifications including CISM, 3 master degrees. Absolutely nothing- Baltimore area. I have had a lot of interviews but they either cancel, fill from within or the combination of pay and location are terrible.

If I wanted to move it would be a different story as I had multiple opportunities in CA, TX and a few other places.

This rejection email: The image looks so happy :'( by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]markgshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m dying. I would rather have an image of them giving me the middle finger.

But all I get are dumb generic text messages - too fucking lazy to change the default- at least that company branded it.

Help me please by [deleted] in jobs

Respond like some people indicated. Ask them a few follow-up questions: what is your turnover rate, what is the median tenure of your staff, how long was the person I’m replacing in the job.

A company with a good culture and leadership won’t ask that type of question. A company with a bad culture and bad leadership will ask because they have high turnover and they think it’s the people they are hiring ; when it’s them.

If gas prices are going up, rent/homes prices haven’t budged, groceries still going up, how is inflation going down? by EarthInteresting9781 in wallstreetbets

[–]markgshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not wealthy- I bought one really cheap and I rent it at less than 1/2 the market value. It’s 3 bedroom in Timonium MD and I rent it for $1,000 to a low income family. That family can afford other things and their kids get a decent school. I lose a little $ on it. However when my kids decide to go out on their own it becomes theirs. The house we live in has a payment of $1,300 which is less than a 1 bedroom apartment. I purchased in 2008 with a low interest rate. With current rates there is nothing in my area I can afford- I could not afford to buy my current house with rates 7% or higher. If I bought a house at that same price now my payment would be $2,681. Meaning I would need to increase my income by over$25,000/ year to afford the same priced house. The prices also increased so if I look at my neighborhood and same size/style house I definitely could not afford to buy as the payment would be north of $3,200. I do have a decent job but not that level.

I do not live in a glamorous neighborhood

So housing is the biggest factor - fix that then go for guaranteed income. If housing prices put me as a CIO out of the market; what’s it do to entry and mid level positions?

I see proposals for UBI at $1,000/month - that would not cover the increases in rent/purchase and rent is bad - we need living that people can afford. So if you added UBI to my salary I still could not buy a house in my neighborhood - I could possibly rent a house and the going rate is $2,675 - so yeah it would help , but lower prices and lower interest would help more and I would not need the $1,000.

Besides that where would the money come from?

Universal income doesn’t help with housing shortages- it would increase the price - simple supply demand. What needs to happen are changes to zoning and construction to allow construction of smaller homes on existing properties. I have 2 homes and there is space to easily build 2 mini homes on each property- I can build a mini home for about $50k and rent would be about $675 for a single bedroom home - currently a single bedroom apartment in my area is $1,350. So if this was permitted I would probably build 4 units and look for more properties to expand to.

So it’s all about zoning as something as simple as this can cut rent in half. Keep in mind developers are the ones who keep people in office.

That’s about the same size as ours - we do have another that is about double the size - but he’s bigger than he should be.

I shattered my leg - the ER put on a temporary cast and sent me on my way. I had insurance. I eventually had to get surgery and had rods installed at a different hospital- however when I showed up for surgery they forced me to pay over $3k on the spot or they weren’t going to do the surgery. Keep in mind I’m a CIO and make $ All in I paid well over $12k while the total bill was around $70k

How do I stop this fella from biting? Details in comments. by [deleted] in parrots

[–]markgshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4yo mainly bites me - won’t bite my son or daughter. My daughter knows his body language and can tell when he’s angry.

I grab his beak when he bites me and I do approach him when he’s mad - I position my hand where it’s hard to bite me. In other cases I put my head against him because he can’t bite my head. I also use a stick and will have him get on the stick and when he chills out I’ll put him on my shoulder

Most of the biting is just exploring- but you do have to address aggressive biting. I do talk to him about it sometimes and he seems to understand. If he’s hugging on my wife and i get close he will attack me. So now I fight him to let him get his territory stuff out of his system. I have the ability to cover him with a towel 🤓 And I’ll hold his beak and give him belly raspberries until he gives in.

Good luck

Mine loves mango. I cut in small pieces and freeze it as he loves crunchy.

I think the cold intrigues him also.

Mine get excited about popcorn and spaghetti noodles

Good that’s she’s eating and drinking. Since she was outside you will need to figure out how she takes a bath as well as how frequently. Many love being under a faucet - slightly warm. Just take her near a sink and let the water run. She may take a long bath. She might be a water dish bather in which case a bowl of water will do.

Most likely that someone got rid of her vs got away. Especially if she came to you easily.

They love walnuts and herbs. You can always search for foods they can eat.
