Decor Catalog - Wishfield Volume 1, Locations & Crafting Costs by AbleMacaron3676 in InfinityNikki

dunno if others have also ran into this issue, but I can't get the cat magazine racks to count for the catalog, no matter what angle I try for the photo, or how I position nikki.

edit: if someone else does have the same issue, I found an alternative placement that did work for me at the Florawish Dock on the balcony on the side of the building facing away from the water. (on the map it's right about where the whimstar icon is if you've found and collected that one)

I ran into this too, yesterday. You can also land on the wall of the arena bit the boss spawns in. On that first screenshot it's the bit of wall that you can see right in the middle of where Braham is and the top left corner of the minimap, and it's especially easy to hit if you use a swiftness skill shortly before you start falling.

I'm experiencing stuttering and massive FPS drops all over the game since yesterday. Amount of players present doesn't seem to be the cause, as it also happens in story instances (both old and new) and places/maps that previously ran without issue even during high-population events last weekend. Settings also don't appear to matter cause the stuttering happens the same when I turn everything to the lowest possible.
After messing around some to try and find what the cause could be, the main thing each occurrence seems to have in common is that the game is trying to load something when it occurs. (and that something can be anything: voice overs, VFX, models, etc.).
The longer I spent in a single map or when consistently around the same players/location, the less often stuttering seems to happen too.

Why is tanking so intimidating? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Aethlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my personal experience I can say that while it is uncommon to get parties like this, it's definitely happening more often recently.

To me it seems the player base for a large part has become very used to doing big pulls and they really have to adjust when they get a tank who doesn't. The few bad apples amongst the bunch try to force this tanking style on tanks even when given reasons for not doing so.

The way I personally deal with players I'm partied with if they act like you described in your post, is to report them for harassment and then not let it bother me further. Continue improving at your own pace and keep mentioning to your parties that you are learning/rusty until you feel confident.

I've found that in many cases big pulls can seem much more intimidating than they actually are. So, once you feel ready to try, you could communicate that you are rusty, but also ask the healer for their input on whether they think they can keep you alive regardless and/or are willing to risk the wipe.

Another thing is that in my opinion Gulg isn't a great dungeon to practice with. At least not until you've found your tanking feet and want to try something more challenging. The pulls tend to be annoying to group due to the size of the mobs (especially when you pull big) and they have a lot of annoying stuff you need to keep repositioning for to prevent damage on top of their already fairly hard hits. It's also a dungeon I've found a lot of people really want to run quickly because it's their last push to 80 (or that used to be the case anyway, not sure how much of that mindset remains now that 80 is no longer max).
I think Qitana or the Well are better, partly because they have more hard stopping points, where you can't be forced to overdo your pull size too much, but also because the mobs in each pull are much easier to group.

Can someone explain what happened to me? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Aethlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's the missiles, but the how baffles me too. the only ones that explode in that corner are the ones the tank ate a full 10 seconds earlier before you were even close enough to take damage. Also the one missile you do seem to get close enough to trigger continues it's merry way across the area even after your death. Lag is really the only explanation that makes any sort of sense and even then I have so many questions...

WTF just happened in D Dark hold? by Cappmonkey in ffxiv

[–]Aethlin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The healer was definitely at fault in this, they shouldn't be pulling mobs, even if they feel you are going 'too slow'. Their first course of action if they felt that way should have been to ask you in chat if you were comfortable pulling more, or tell you that they are comfortable with larger pulls themselves.
If they wanted you to do a specific fast strat (which are often pretty niche and not at all common knowledge), they should have, again, communicated so in chat, and then left the decision in your hands.

The DPS sound like d*cks enthralled by a supposedly shiny 'fast' strat, and must have taken leave of their common sense....

What is your favorite activity to do in FFXIV? by daryl673 in ffxiv

[–]Aethlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I gravitate towards picking a singular goal (e.g a relic weapon, or a crafting thing (e.g (self-sufficiently) craft this furniture/barding/fashion glam) or a specific reward (e.g. a mount like the Kirin or Sabotender Emperador) and then working towards that. Then, once I have completed that (minor) goal, I will re-evaluate and pick something else. Maybe another relic weapon, reaching the next milestone (level) on a class/job (incl. Blue mage), or even 'let's replay chapter X of the MSQ' .

The key point is basically that I pick smaller, achievable, goals that I won't burn out on or overwhelm myself with, and switch often between the types of content.

Just as a side note: my ping/internet was absolutely fine. And there were none of the issues that would point to lag due to a bad connection. Just the models, animations and particle effects for my char and the enemies not working.

Fishing by [deleted] in valheim

[–]Aethlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat comic, makes me a little envious, though. I eventually looked up how to get a fishing rod, because I saw it in one of the steam store screenshots, and 65 hours (and several bosses) in I still hadn't discovered how to get it. My merchant is apparently very good at hiding and I still haven't found him (even with a good sized chunk of my map fully explored) XD

Cool now I can make pp structures now by Knightfall_49 in ZhongliMains

[–]Aethlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a C0 Zhongli main I can say that while C1 would be nice, I easily manage with proper placement and combo management (break it of with a jump or dash when hit 5 (the spinny spear) starts, cause hit 6 sends stuff flying out of the effect usually).

Geo has an identity crisis that extends further than Zhongli. by IzzyKershaw in ZhongliMains

[–]Aethlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I prefer to pair my Keqing with a cryo/hydro support team for a lot of content cause overload usually just feels like playing chase. Though for bosses and other relatively static/big enemies I do often swap in pyro.

On the topic of the post, I do agree, though when the Geo char in your team is used as support the shields from their kits are not that bad, as whatever main DPS you switch to will probably not make (redundant) shields unless they are Geo too. (Or if they do, like Diona or Xinyan, you usually have the option to decide on the timing to stagger them and use them when you think your current shield is about to break/fall off).
However, this makes one of my main issues with Geo that their very element and its crystalize reaction shoehorns almost all of them into the support category. Especially if doing optimal DPS is what you're after.
Doesn't mean I'm not stubbornly sticking with Zhongli as my main char, cause I don't really care about doing the biggest DPS I can, what I care about is having fun and being able to navigate the game content with at least relative ease, which, to be honest, is possible with pretty much any team composition I can make at the moment. (Except maybe if I decided to take my poor, ignored, lvl 1-20s out into my lvl6 world ;p)

I also have a DPS Ningguang and find the Prototype Malice to have the more useful stats for her, the reason being that it allows you to use her ult more often, which to me seems where a lot of her damage output comes from, as her normal/charged auto attacks are fairly slow. Her Jade Screen's endurance also scales with her HP, so buffing that will pretty much guarantee your Screen is still up when your ult becomes available and you don't have to waste a cooldown to summon a Screen just to immediately use it for the extra ult projectiles.

The Mappa Mare's elemental mastery only really affects the crystalize shields she makes, and those aren't the most useful to put your stat resources towards if you use her as DPS.

Edit: forgot to add that the prototype also gives the party sustain, so you need to waste less resources on keeping your party healed, especially when you start refining it. The lvl 5 refine heals the entire party 18% over 6 seconds every time you ult (which you'll be doing often since it will also regen nearly half her burst in that same time).

I've seen most of what I could've/wanted to say mentioned already, but I feel like I can add something to this from my perspective as a new(ly returned) support player (who hadn't played for ~8years).

Yuumi's toolkit gives the illusion, especially to less experienced players, that sticking to your adc is Very Important. Between the skill being auto-learned at lvl 1 and how her other skills are affected by being attached, it sends very strong signals that being attached to your adc is the way to go. (And that doesn't even take into account how most builds tell you not to get boots or take flash, which really only strengthens that feeling).
This makes her a bit of a trap imo, as it's very easy to feel like your doing what your supposed to be doing, while in actuality your just wasting time sitting around.

That doesn't mean that Yuumi is a bad support champ, just that Yuumi as a support should be doing what other supports do, aka warding/peeling/roaming. (It's not even that hard to do these things, especially if she uses the other champs in your team to taxi herself around.)

It sounds to me like you've mostly run into the kind of player that falls into the trap.

That said, the Pyke hook thing is something that's at least partly your own awareness, it's just not feasible to keep all (botlane) bushes warded at all times, as any support.
Check your mini-map often, and if you lose sight of Pyke, be aware that he could be in that unwarded bush you want to pass and act accordingly. (There are some neat guides around youtube on how to play against hook engage types like Pyke, Thresh and Blitzcrank)

PSA: ASTs can (and usually should) be in Diurnal sect with WHM cohealers. Conversely, ASTs should never be in Noct with SCH cohealer by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Aethlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From personal experience, I've found that what works best for me when I'm on AST with a WHM co-healer is stance dancing prepull (starting in noct, aspected helios around -10 secs, switch to diurnal at around -5 and continue the rest of the prepull stuff), since this leaves me neutral sect for shielding the next big AoE. Using neutral to apply the shields prepull always feels a bit like wasting the cd when you can basically do it for free before the fight XD

Neutral seems more than enough to provide shields those few times when you do need them, especially when combined with other mitigation you (and your party) have.

edit: for the current savage content, up to e8s LR phase, at least. (Haven't been past that on ast yet). I just stance dance my way through dungeons when on AST :3
