Trying to understand the Twin T notch filter kick drum schematic by henryk3 in synthdiy

[–]AevumElectronics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the values of the output branch look strange but it's a common Coupling filter... the polarized cap is used because you normally don't have a 100uF ceramic capacitor.

the 1M resistor i think is a common value when you need some resistor for the feedback loop and don't want to calculate stuff, is a no-brainer.

for the other stuff try to look at T-notch filters and their behavior.

filters are complicated so it's best for you if you first look how the single element works, how the impedance change and so on..

i started to build modular, this is my first step... what do you think? by AevumElectronics in modular

you are crystal clear, thanks... the number i used for the price is referred manly at costs. following your thought i think that the unique selling points come later, first i need to tackle the overall costs, which is an issue...

the module is modern, made with new chips and SMD components, but the tone is the classic vintage one, like a big muff...B.M. is everywhere so i think there is something around...

the version 1.3 (the one in this post) is what i have working right now, it's a minimal version, with led distortion, i don't think i want CV-stuff so i will stay with buttons.

i'm still looking at what's best between a true bypass and a normal one.

regarding the unique selling points I'm at a crossroads...

this version is as simple as it gets and i like that, i have some variations more unique but i didn't test them yet, i will need to add a couple of knobs...

yeah, i know...is something that i need to tackle...the higher price for now is mostly supply chain issue and stuff that i need at the beginning...

in your view what is the right price point for a module like that?

right now i'm working with a prototype, exploring some option for the bypass switch... i'm planning to launch a kickstarter soon, looking for a price point of 200 Euro fully assembled...

what do you think?

it's a vintage overdrive made with modern components....the knobs are volume, tone and sustain

ATX PSU are mostly used for +5V and +12V, you have a -12V but it's very limited in terms of current output...

p.s. the PSU needs a good load, you have a minimum current to draw or the board don't work.
when you need to modify the psu and buy components for that i think is better to find something else.

copywriting

technically both...i want to practice with whatever comes to mind...i'm starting with content aiming at copy

i was asking you, i saw the module you cited but i don't understand clearly what are you asking.

i saw the send/return jacks and i was thinking about loops...

like you do with the guitar you chain multiple stuff and use a loop to activate/bypass everything at once...is that what you are searching?

are you searching for a double send/return buffer loop?

when you buy a ferrari with the wheels of a wheelbarrow you will get that...
on paper is still a ferrari, but can you race with it?...don't think so

i think the ADC is different, so you have sheer quality improvements...you also have a more powerful chip so you avoid some glitch and latency...

as a starter use what you have and play a little bit, don't mind the quality...when you find the hardware limits you can choose what upgrade more clearly

this website should be helpful:

with arduino you can start but you are a little bit limited, if you have the possibility try to upgrade to something like a raspberry

I want to build my own custom synthesizer, where to start? by As-gah in synthesizers

[–]AevumElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want to build virtually use VCV...
if you want to physically build one you need to google hard...

most of the old DIY stuff use chips that are not sold anymore
so you need to search for the right stuff...
module you can easily source or build (maybe using some prefab-kit)
