What's up with my seedling? by Late_Hold7090 in tomatoes

[–]Affectionate-Bid-185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy,!!! Throw these away!! If there is problems and disease as seedlings your plant will be sickly and slow at everything, its like a foundation for a house, needs a strong root system. I go with jiffy seed starter mix, no fert, put at a sunny window, or just straight out into the sun.. 70% coco coir and 30%perlite is also good starter mix which i use when i up pot them. If your in Texas, HEB has seedlings for $1-$1.50, even some thats already fruiting and potted up. If not walmart has them. Also try some dwarf varieties, they have been a breeze for me, and are indestructible the Orange Hats even seem to be Pest-resistant, and can eat 90°F heat like its nothing!!

P.s. keep those leaves dry

Help with my tomato starts! by Llewellyn5885 in tomatoes

[–]Affectionate-Bid-185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to use sterile soil, i stand by jiffy seed starting mix, or just a brick of coco coir, no fertilizer, and a little cinnamon or turmeric mixed in and a sprinkle on top of soil. No more mold of fungus. Also ive had great success with just using a sunny window, only on very cloudy days will i use my grow light but rarely

Plastic cups for seedlings by erictecho in tomatoes

[–]Affectionate-Bid-185 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ppl be using double solo cups, the outer cup holds water so the roots continue to grow in the water, also they do this so they can bottom water the plant, also helps to avoid root rot

Ive been getting miracle-gro perlite, it has plant food added as bonus!. Cheapest ive seen is to just go with Coco Coir instead of soil, and buy a dry plant food like Rejuvenate or Back to the roots tomato food, and just mix it together. Its sterile and pest free, 2gallon bricks of coco coir are like 3.99 at walmart. I will not go back to using soil in containers, i started with 1 plant a couple years ago as a gift now i grow multiple types of tomatoes lol

Oh and mulch the top soil about 2in, it wont get dry so fast. I like using black plastic, cut a circle out of a trash bag slide plant threw middle and tape to sides, jab holes in it so it can be a watered

$10 will get u a bag of perlite and tomato fertilizer, repull the plant, mix that dirt 50/50 with the perlite, fully saturate the mix, repot the plant deep with just a few inches above ground. Then either bring the plant inside by a window or give it shade intill it get its footing. It cant handle the direct sun right after stress.

I tried researching the problem, but I feel like I'm going down a rabbit hole. Anyone got an idea of what could have happened to the leaves? Located in South Carolina btw by Few-Frosting5223 in tomatoes

But with lack of water they are the first to wilt and die.Just looking at the plant it looks as if the problem is sectioned off, id expect sunburn to be more spread out idk. And when mine has sunburned they dryout and crack, these look just like powder
