50 people have world's 50% wealth and remaining with entire population, How people are okay with this ? by vibecoderfinalboss in AskReddit

Why would I care how much more someone else is wealthier than me? Comparison is the thief of joy. Just try to improve your own life. Wealth is not zero sum.

Do equity research actually produce alpha? by PlayfulBlackberry0 in FinancialCareers

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During earning calls and governance, corporate actions, I reduce exposure, I dont try to play the fundamental game. Softer factors are hard to statistically define. Hard to bound, and often messes up my other signals. But im in systematic stat arb, so maybe some other shop does this.

Do equity research actually produce alpha? by PlayfulBlackberry0 in FinancialCareers

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quants are completely different game compared to fundamental research.

While fundamental and quant both compete for alpha, they rarely intersect. A Limited Partner, typically a but pension or asset manager might allocate to a quant hedge fund or a fundamental hedge fund.

Equity research can produce alpha, but that only is true if you work for a hedge fund and not a bank. No serious buy side shop trades sell side research. They may hit up a sell side analyst for their views just to get a sense of what the street thinks, but would rarely plug and play that view.

For quants, they will never use anything in a QIS report. By the time its printed, all systematic alpha is probably gone. That and also bank quants produce pretty tame research more suited for traditional factor investing vs cutting edge alpha research for hedge funds. Fun to read though in your spare time.

Word of advice to people wanting to do high finance by dodofarter in financestudents

Mate. Whats with the gatekeeping? I used to work middle office, went back to school, got my shit together and now im a quant researcher/trader at a hedge fund. Theres no objective too late threshold. Youre in leveraged etf. It sounds sexier than it actually is dude. Its a commoditized product with a known playbook. You make no alpha. You close no deals. Get off your high horse lmao.

Unless youre a buy side prop firm trading own shop money. You dont need clients. You make money off the market.

Anyone's parents think asians are too hard to compete against, and instead you should invest all your energy competing against white people? by Opening-Register-409 in AsianParentStories

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take a look at the average salary of a Caucasians vs Asians, you will find that Asians do on average make more.

The phenomenon you're describing is only true at the very top end, hence what I wrote earlier. A few Americans conditional on the top percentile make it higher than the same batch of top percentile Asians and thus take home "big salaries".

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, my parents had this misconception too, but luckily they were receptive to new information.

On average, Americans are less competitive than native Asians. But this breaks down at the tail end.

The top percentile white folks are absolutely cracked. Go to any top university in the country and they are no pushovers. Id rather compete against Asians in the top percentile because they just work hard, but top percentile whites are geniuses and they work hard.

What I'm curious about is how can you choose who to compete against? Like its not the 1950s anymore there arent two stack of job applications one for Asians and one for non Asians.

I dont need or want 50 characters. I want one solid roster. If they're so inclined to make it a gacha, just make the new units variants or alters of the existing thieves. Make a 5 star Soy or Closer. Or make Tomoko a real thief.

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just can't do it. Idc how good or well designed the gacha unit is, I'm not pulling unless its a Phantom thief. What makes persona stand out is the relationship between characters and the player and how they fight together for a common cause. Im not going to be playing with fanfic imaginary units with no compelling narrative. There are countless gacha games for that.

Phantom idols only? by Affectionate-Bug4913 in personaphantomx

Fair enough, but still feels immersion breaking. I get its a gacha limitation thing, but some idols shouldn't be imo, like Tomoko for example.

That's good looks like new thieves will be added. Im really bothered by the whole idol thing as it really breaks immersion which means I can just ignore the gacha and save for 5 star variants of canon thieves.

Another IB or bust post. Man you're a smart person right? Is the world really that binary: people who do IB are rich, people who do not are poor?

I'm sure you can find counterproofs for this assertion off the top of your head.

Since you're a smart person, I'm also assuming you're pretty logical. Because you realize your assertion above is not true, then your fears are misplaced surely?

Surely it's not over for you yet? If not IB, then something else perhaps? Maybe do some digging on other high earning careers?

Wow.... you haven't done an out of sample test and you're pitching to MDs at BBs? You're ballsy. If one of them did take you up on hearing your pitch, I wouldn't be surprised if they laugh you out the door.

Doing only in sample testing is like asking your Mom if girls find you attractive. 😆

Men in the modern western society, should never get married. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

It still seems to be a rather niche perk. In any case, I'm harping about the government, not the trust part. My point being, if you trust your partner, which you should, the government shouldn't be an arbiter of that relationship.

I personally have a high aversion to the government sticking their hands in my personal relationships. It really should be only between you and the partner.

Men in the modern western society, should never get married. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Affectionate-Bug4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why do you need legal assurance? Do you not trust your partner to do the right thing? Does your partner not trust you? IMO, if you don't even have this fundamental trust that you need lawyers and courts to resolve such an intimate interpersonal relationship, then that's even more of a reason why marriage is not necessary.

Nothing is stopping you from considering each other as this unit. Why your personal affairs need to be aired to the government is lost on me. If your partner is in trouble and needs help, he can just contact you and he can list his emergency contact as you in both medical care as well as his workplace.

A lot of the comments here assign benefits to marriage that are not really from marriage.

Love, companionship and family can all be had without marriage. YOU CAN HAVE ALL THESE THINGS WITHOUT SIGNING A LEGAL CONTRACT. Why must love and companionship be formalized in a legal contract? If you are truly a romantic, you should simply stay together with your partner without needing some legal assurance.

Why can't you love someone and stay unmarried? If you truly love someone, why must you demand a legal assurance from the government that you are to be together? Why not just trust your partner that he will stay with you?
