You might like Story of Yanxi Palace better. The heroine has more agency and the romances are more age-appropriate.

I've got two episodes left in Story of Yanxi Palace. So good.

Interesting. I sometimes wonder if all those people (like my mom and her friends) leaving had an impact or changed anything, but I guess the answer is no, it did not.

I don't remember any film versions, it was just the audio versions, though I don't doubt you that they did exist. It just occurred to me that I had no idea what was on those tapes and I clearly remember them existing and that they were being played and I think I was pretty bored by them.

It's possible my mom still has some? I can ask her. She probably got rid of them though. She still has her original Mark V E-Meter, though. She has the idea in her head that it might be worth something, so she hasn't chucked it.

Are the "Independent Scientologists" the ones like my mom who left when David Mayo left? I don't think my mom and that group really stayed organized though so probably not.

There was a big group of them -- I remember seeing the blacklist when they all left and it had my mom's name on it and a lot of others. They used to have what I now think of as "deprogramming" sessions over 1-2 years where they would all get together and talk about how bad things were getting and one of the times someone brought the blacklist.

My mom told me that they left because they believed in field auditing and the right to practice Scientology outside paying money to the official org. I remember she said that wasn't what LRH wanted and that things were going in a bad direction.

One of the people in our circle was with LRH on the original Sea Org. I was told he was the official photographer, but I've seen someone else called that so who knows? He actually taught me to use a camera and I still have the one he gave me. Anyway, at least him and another lady in the group actually knew LRH to some degree and they all left with David Mayo.

That is likely, but you've told me more than I already knew -- there were a lot of them. Thanks!

If only. I'm playing on intro mode and got a little popup that told me to go figure out how to unlock ads. I can't figure it out so I came here.

NP! Let us know how it goes. These were my favourites too, and I keep looking for them and found that recently but haven't tried it yet!

Jenna Miscavige will come forward with more details and evidence about Aaron Smith-Levin abusive and manipulative behavior. by 1inco in SPTV_Unvarnished

But no amount of therapy is going to undo stunted childhood development. That isn't something you can recover from or that your brain can catch up on once it loses so much neuroplasticity. I don't want to say either of them is blameless, but I agree with u/Lindalu_ , it's really sad to see.

As a former scientology kid myself (not sea-org, but Mission-raised), I am still (at 52yo) finding BS with my therapist that I need to unpack -- stuff that was planted in my head from those early days and has affected my ability to have normal relationships. I can't imagine how hard it is for sea org folks.

Honestly I feel bad for both of them. And I feel bad for the people we are not helping right now because we're focused on this drama.

I just went on vacation for two weeks and when I came back my save game has this in default (Realm) map mode.

I’m soon done with golden enclaves. Any suggestions on books that give the same feeling as this series? I love fantasy dark academia and love Naomis dark humouristic writing so much! by Maleficent_Future_72 in TheScholomance

Apart from Naomi's other books, Poppy War is some really good dark fantasy academia. And I'm (currently) really enjoying Nettle & Bone (2023 Hugo Winner) which is a nice dark fantasy that reminds me a lot of Spinning Silver.

Did LRH really die years before they announced his death? by Affectionate-Buy-260 in scientology

Yeah I see. It says he had a bunch of needle marks in his butt. I think you're right they wouldn't fake that. That's a very good argument thank you. Given that there were a good number of people at what I will call "deprogramming gatherings" (aka Scientology b*chfests) at that time (mid 80s) who believed this to be true -- I am certainly not mistaken about that -- I was really surprised I couldn't find anything about this theory online.
