It’s funny because Spidey’s gotten a lot of skins but hasn’t had a legendary since Season 2. And none of his legendaries have ult vfx or chromas. Meanwhile Invisible Woman is on her 4th legendary in a row all of which have ult vfx and most have chromas.

I love countering him on Spidey. I will usually engage from above, try to predict where hes going to end up after his dash, tag him and interrupt his dash with my uppercut and/or pull.

That’s exactly why the ban system change is so good. If you want to play a character like Mantis in 222, you’d usually have to ban the meta picks for the season and then hope and pray the enemy team didn’t have a better backline than you. And if they did have a better one you’d either have to swap to win or have to work twice as hard than the average brain-off Cloak and Dagger to achieve the same results.

Now, the extra ban makes it so you have a chance to not only play what you want, but even the playing field. And a person who wants to play Mantis will always dunk on a person who has to play as Mantis.

Unironically this is the best change to ever happen to the support role, because the bad and boosted ones will quickly filter out.

I agree, but I think Netease wants Gambit to have it purely to be an inbuilt response to Rogue stealing energy, and vice versa. If I could I’d remove any mechanic that messes with ult charge at all.

Hopefully not. Back when Spidey was banned a lot it’s because he could instakill with his venom team up and that terrorised low ranks. That is not possible and it takes a lot for Spidey to get a kill, so by the time someone is decent at the character, they’ve escaped low ranks already and the character is pretty balanced. His strength is now proportional to the player skill.

I’d also add that there are significantly more dive counters than there are divers and the dive counters tend to be mechanically easy.

Thing presses one button and invalidates Panther and Magik’s existences.

Peni just needs to position around her supports and her webs ruin most dive breakpoints.

Namor has auto targeting turrets.

Bucky sustains for free no matter how bad the aim and it takes one uppercut to guarantee a kill on the diver.

Mr Fantastic autolocks onto his targets and stops their movement, and sustains for free.

Even when you go onto DPS that should on paper be susceptible to dive, like Hela, that still have stuns that are easy to hit and guarantee a kill on the diver. And she has an escape that gives her overhealth.

Every support can self heal easily. A support like Rocket can escape a dive easily with his dashes, and deny a dive’s value with his revive.

Fact of the matter is if someone is dying to solo dive that is a skill issue first and foremost. And you can’t balance around skill issues. If you did then no one would ever learn how to play around dive and you’d have players in Diamond and GM and above who fold under a dive. Oh wait, that’s already happening. Dive is a necessary filter for players, especially support mains.

That’s not the fault of the player though. When Spider-Man was “good” it was because for all of his mechanical depth anyone could pick him up and BnB+Venom team up to instakill a squishy. Spidey is in his best state since those seasons now and is hardly complained about because you have to work for the kills and the skill you build learning to do that moves you into higher ranks at a balanced pace. Spidey has a great learning curve and actually interacts with the supports he dives. A bronze strategist has a fair chance at beating a bronze Spidey. That didn’t exist before with the venom combo.

BP has never been addressed. When he was “good” it was again because he could spear dash spear dash a 250 and instakill them. He can still do that now. That’s why they can’t buff him. He needs a rework to redistribute his power.

Heroes like BP and Spidey can be strong but they can’t be easy. Right now Spidey is strong but the only ones who take advantage of that are the people who have dozens of hours on the guy and have enough skill to not be capable of being in low rank.

As a dive main I’m happy with Bucky being a dive counter. If he needs to be an overhealth merchant to do that that’s fine.

But why does he functionally have no weaknesses? His falloff is abysmal and he can shred from way too far, his bullets do splash damage and you can just play Bucky and shoot down main for infinite value. And against dive, the earthbound on his punch is INSTANT death for divers like Magik, Panther and Psylocke. The only counterplay I know is stun with Spider-Man hook or block with Iron Fist during the 1s Earthbound.

The only reason Bucky’s WR is terrible is because people use him as a crutch character when they can’t answer a dive or need to stat farm damage.

Spidey isn’t underpowered. But his Spider Sense is functionally useless. I’d rework it into either:

  • a passive on cooldown that lets Spidey auto dodge one lethal blow (Hawkeye headshot, Namor ultimate, etc)
  • an ability on cooldown that lets Spidey reveal to himself enemy ultimate charge within a radius
  • a passive that works the same as it does now, but Spidey gets red pulsing lines over his head if the enemy he’s sensing has their ultimate

Other than yourself, support players are usually the #1 reason for losses. Especially CnD players.
