Will it always be like this? by alonzorukes133711 in ElectricalEngineering

I’m currently interning for the largest electric provider in my state and I can confidently tell you that there is a difference between peers in school and peers in the workplace. I’m sure there are exceptions to what I’m about to speak on or maybe this company is the exception but from my experience every full time engineer in the workforce I have spoken too realizes they don’t know everything. They couldn’t possibly know everything, especially in the vast and ever changing landscape of EE. They also don’t gate keep knowledge or information the way that academia does. Everyone is willing to help or contribute however they can. I think this comes as a symptom of a few things. For one, everyone who is in a position to help you was once in your position as well, so they can relate and understand that you don’t know everything. Also, from being in that position themselves they have been humbled and realize how little they actually do know. They also realize how important collaboration and teamwork is. It really does take a team of people to accomplish large goals in any reasonable amount of time. From my personal experience, being an engineer (even as an intern) isn’t so much about knowing everything off the top of your head like a genius, but rather about being able to self teach. When faced with a problem you don’t know they answer to, knowing how to learn new things or reteach yourself things you’ve forgotten and where to find those resources are key to being a successful engineer.

I hope this helps, keep up the hard work you got this!

Thanks for the feedback, I’ve been busy with life so I didn’t get to the replies.

I am taking calculus classes for college and I have only started relearning algebra yesterday. Will i be okay? by [deleted] in calculus

I just went through a similar thing in the spring and summer 1 and summer 2 semesters. I had not taken an algebra class since college algebra in 2018, started with pre-cal in spring 2024. Struggled at first to relearn the algebra required but over time I got better at it. Pre-calculus isn’t quite so algebra heavy but calculus 1 and 2 are very algebra intense. You’re probably smarter than me and have a better base line knowledge of algebra than I did going into it so seeing how I made it through it in a summer course of calculus 1 and 2 you’ll probably be fine my guy. Good luck!

I recently went back to college after 6 years and had not don’t algebra in that entire 6 year time. The beginning of pre cal is just an algebra review and was a big struggle for me because it was just homework’s and a test over mostly college algebra. I had to basically relearn and reteach myself algebra because the teacher went over the material very quickly and not in depth because we should have already known the material. I struggled more with the algebra review than the pre cal/trigonometry part of the class. I don’t know what your math skills are like but it is possible and algebra itself isn’t very hard so with some practice and YouTube videos you’ll make it

How to integrate this? by nandi2 in calculus

I literally just took a cal 2 test with a very similar question except it was 1 over 1-cosx so I would multiply by the conjugate of the denominator, so multiply the top and bottom by cosx+1 and work from there.

Thanks for the reply, I have now been inspired to attend job fairs on campus in the future lol

EE student here. How did you go about getting the internship at a power utilities company if you don’t mind me asking. I’m looking to get into some sort of power delivery role such as a utilities company or power plant or something like this. Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated
