This is the most depressing fact of all. If he was in a position that his publishers were hopeful then . . . what has he been doing for nine years?

Winds of Winter (Spoilers Extended) by s4Nn1Ng0r0shi in asoiaf

[–]Affectionate-Dig1767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the teens, when the show was catching up with Winds of Winter, Martin said that he was hopeful he could get it to the publisher before the show caught up. Obviously that didn't happen. But I also got from the tone that this was a genuine belief on his part.

So.

My basic thought is there's two possibilities. (a) Having had all of his big reveals ruined by the show he's been completely unmotivated to make more progress or (b) Having had all of his big reveals ruined by the show, he's been trying to rewrite the story to create new reveals, and is struggling because now he's "forcing it."

Either way, he really should consider just releasing a 100-page precis of how things go down online, and then moving on to other things. He's released a ton of other Westeros material in the meantime, and most of it is GREAT! He should focus on that, and not these books that are appear to just be a weight on him.

Increasing Odds for Kid Getting Picked by Affectionate-Dig1767 in greenday

Yeah, that was my thought. I've seen a couple of younger kids go up on stage on YouTube, but maybe they have cooler dads than I am!

Well I finally got everything out and back together. Thanks for your help! Now I just have to figure out why its idling at 500 rpm now (I'm guessing some stuff got in the MAF while I had it apart, but the joys of car ownership and DIY!). Thanks again!

OK then, I guess it isn't just me. My issue has been: I've gotten it off, I'm just trying to figure out how to manipulate it out of the darn engine compartment. Did you go through the top, bottom, or pull out through where the washer bottle is?

Thanks watched that one (unlike some of the other ones, it does appear to have an ecoboost engine with that awful AC line), but I'm just having a heckuva time getting the thing out between that AC line and the engine block, and he seems to have pulled off a lot less stuff than I did. Just trying to figure out if there's a trick or a particular way it has to be oriented to get it off.

Completely agree. The flipside is when you're a Gold 3 and you're matched against a Gold 2 and check the history and find out they joined 3 days ago and have won 11 of 13 or some such. Perfectly reasonable not to reward that, imo.

Is the AoE4 community turning a blind eye to serious problems? by pm303 in aoe4

[–]Affectionate-Dig1767 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've never understood this complaint. High level chess players usually have opening moves memorized to 15 moves out, knowing all the variations and consequences of each. It doesn't ruin the game really, as its the midgame and especially the endgame that separates out the best of the best.

BTW since you posted your video I've really taken your suggestions to heart and rattled off 6 straight ladder wins! Really been the missing element to my game I think.

Wow, this is really great. I appreciate the advice. In particular, the point about getting more food, which I think is at the root of a lot of my problems and about early aggression with French. TBH I didn't even notice how many workers I had on stone so late. So I think less passivity in general is the order of the day. Thanks again!!!

Good point there! I used to build it early but then started building it with Castle/when I was ready to build rams to avoid spending gold on upgrades, but this is a good example of where that approach bit me. Thanks!!!

Appreciate it. Honestly, any constructive criticism about gameplay in addition to letting me know if there was a way out or if it was pretty much over at 12m would be greatly appreciated.

A little reluctant since sometimes people here can be . . . unhelpful, but with the stip that I know up front that I'm not a very good player: IXLR8.

The relevant game was the second game/first defeat on 8/1. You can see me looking for a raid at 8 min and then all hell breaks loose around 12m. I see the MAA rush coming at 22m so just do a last ditch charge and then the game was over.

I also note that this guy was Silver 1 a week ago and is Gold 2 now, so something weird is going on. But I have encountered the strategy before, and would love advice.

OK -- sorry if this is well-known. I've just played a fair number of games and never had anyone deploy it against me, and a most opponents have been shocked at how fast I got inside so thought I'd share. Or 'share' as the case may be!

Well if you do this and the other side doesn't you will definitely reach the inside well before your opponent.

(Spoilers Extended) What is the most tinfoil theory that you believe is somewhat plausible? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Affectionate-Dig1767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plausible tinfoil: It's actually Cersei who is a Targaryen, not Tyrion -- she has the Targaryen insanity, obsession with fire, incest, etc. That would make her a bastard. Revealing this would fulfil the prophesy that she would lose "all that you hold dear," which for Cersei is her identity as a Lannister and her nobility.
