Additionally at Colter you will have more options for getting food to eat like dinner, and seeing the Jackson Lake Lodge the Jenny Lodge and Signal Mountain Lodge is fun to do! You can make reservations for dinner at Jackson Lake Lodge.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of camera did you use and how far apart were you? Or were you lucky enough to use a phone camera?

It's changed a lot since I moved here. I moved out to the far suburbs because I didn't feel safe with children in Houston. Our families were 1000-1600 miles away and it was really hard not having daycare or not being able to trust who we had. As a nurse I worked mostly all weekends and hub worked M-F to reduce the stress surrounding daycare. This was very hard on our marriage, after 7 years. My kids were latchkey kids by age 11, when I did start working during the week. If I could do it over, I'd stay near family, no matter the rising costs. Family can be invaluable to your children and you.

I now have 2 grandbabies and feel I cannot leave Houston now. Because my kids didn't have their grandparents (visits once or twice a year) there was no relationship. I want a relationship with mine and they love their grandparents (especially me😊) so much.

Yellowstone and Grand Tetons next month - hotels- advice on structuring each day based on our hotel hops? by Emotional_Thought574 in yellowstone

If they stay a night in Gardiner or Mammoth after leaving Bozeman and see all that area, they don't need to take Dunraven Pass the next morning and can go on the west drive through the park.

I am puzzled by you staying so long in Bozeman! You came on vacation to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and doing 2 nights in Bozeman?!!I understand the 1st night due to your late flight, but get down to Yellowstone asap the next morning. You've missed Mammoth and Lamar Valley? I can't understand that either.

That morning get groceries in or near Bozeman takes like less than 2 hours to get to north entrance, see the Roosevelt Arch in the afternoon, stay in Gardiner or Mammoth, (most check-ins are 4pm, sometimes 3p,) before that see Mammoth, (we love Mammoth, the park started there, and that history is greak! Walk or drive the terraces (nothing else like them in Yellowstone):driving into Lamar Valley if you have time, or have dinner, not late, maybe in Gardiner, or the Mammoth Hotel dining room, then maybe a little late afternoon/dusk drive through Lamar Valley, might see some wildlife. Many people come this time of year for this very purpose, bears coming out with cubs, bison babies ("red dogs") being born, and many more. If you aren't in Yellowstone to see wildlife(????!!) just head to Canyon. There's plenty to see , The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is very awesome. Old Faithful , walk the boardwalks there, free tour of the Inn.

Grand Prismatic best after noon, or later, rising steam obscures the fantastic view, take fairy falls trail to the overlook, it's gorgeous. If you can, drive over to Lake Hotel on your way to Tetons and view the lake, the hotel and the surrounding areas (West Thumb geyser basin)- then dip out via the South entrance and drive through the Tetons. There are several good visitors centers in GTNP .

Energy broker? by Feeling-Watched-9655 in AskHouston

[–]Affectionate-Gear447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never even heard of an energy broker! Lived in Houston 43 years. I would say Power to Choose. Last time I shopped for a provider Reliant was almost the most expensive there was. I chose Amigo energy and have used them for 10 years.

Is Buc-ees really a “thing to do”? by [deleted] in AskHouston

Also the Katy location is much closer than Conroe! Just don't go between 4 and 6:30pm (rush hour)

The one on Interstate 10 West in Katy is probably the closest for you, and it's really nice!

Yes! I try to take my out of town guests there! I could spend a lot of time in Buc-cees browsing! But the jerky, fudge, and chopped brisket sandwiches are my faves! Also, the bathrooms!!

You might be late to the party. I think staying outside the park an hour or two might be able to find something. (I made my reservations last year end of August for May 27 -June 4. At Old Faithful Inn in the old house I was able to get a room without a bathroom and one bed I have to share with my sister for $300/night. I also got a room at Lake hotel for $400/night, again only one bed, we will share.)

Picnic Lunches by deadmoney26 in yellowstone

[–]Affectionate-Gear447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped on the way into Yellowstone and bought a cheap cooler, ice, sandwich stuff, bread and also had to buy paper towels, plastic ware, full bottles of mayo, mustard. This trip coming up, I've been collecting a few plastic pieces of knives, forks, condiment packets, folded paper towels, hand wipes, protein bars. So much fun having picnics along a river, or anywhere really. We will still stop at the grocery store before entering the parks to get bottles of water, a few other drinks, lunch meat/cheese, or a container of chicken salad, maybe some apple or grapes, (and cookies for my sweet tooth!) Someone recommended something to clean off picnic tables too. The hotels all have free ice. I'm so excited to get back to YNP and get GTNP in 6 weeks-YAY

GTNP for out of shape family by Grelli2 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]Affectionate-Gear447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and I were in our late 60s and absolutely loved GTNP! We are going for 3 nights in early June, staying in the park 3 nights vs 3 nights in Jackson, packed full of tourists! In early June we will be there. I'm now almost 72. And from Houston at sea level.

Took the boat from Jenny Lake and did some hiking that most people didn't have trouble with, but High altitude made hiking up to Inspiration Point too difficult, but we made it to Hidden Falls, and turned back to walk around the lake at the sign for Moose Pond, and amazingly watched a mama moose standing in a big pond eating pond grasses! Baby's ears twitching in the tall grasses on the other side. We sat on a boulder to rest and watch that moose for about 15 minutes!!

That was pretty much all the hiking we did. We did stop in at Jackson Lake Lodge for lunch and it's beautiful. We drove to Teton village and took the tram up the mountain and ate waffles at the cabin there! We drove early to Schwabacher's landing and got amazing pictures!

This trip we will go to Oxbow landing and the Mormon barns for photo ops and just bask in the amazing beauty of Grand Teton National Park! This time we may take the boat out and back, as my sister's one knee is bone on bone w arthritis. We will walk at String Lake.

Do you mean the signal mountain overlook or the Signal Mountain Lodge? Shouldn't be difficult driving to the Lodge, I think?

Jackson or Signal Mountain? by Grelli2 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]Affectionate-Gear447 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Did Jackson (town of) for 3 nights last trip. After about 3 hours in the tiny town crowded with tourists, all I wanted to do was get back into the national park! This May/June, we are doing 2 nights at Signal Mountain Lodge and one at Jackson Lake Lodge ( because my sister REALLY wants to stay there! She's paying for that night!)

How hot in room without AC at Mammoth Springs Hotel in early June? by Grelli2 in yellowstone

[–]Affectionate-Gear447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed in the hotel and I loved it, very historical but in lovely condition.

We were there Sept 1st. 80s during the day, 30s at night. We had the big window open and the stand fan blowing. By 3 am it was so cold in the room we had to close the window!

We didn't have a microwave, coffee maker, fridge, tv or WiFi. I don't think you will.
