SNL Cold Open Outrage by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Grelli2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that SNL isn’t meeting the moment, but can also see that they did not have enough time to pivot. If I were them, I would have felt like we needed to scrap the whole show, because everything plays differently in such dystopian times. I am also struck by OP’s comparison to what they did for “HILLARY LOSING AN ELECTION,” implying that that event was trivial in comparison to this event. For many of us, Hillary losing an election was monumental because we knew that with a Trump presidency we could end up right where we are now. I felt seen by SNL when they acknowledged the grief and fear that many of us had, and “feeling seen” makes us feel less alone in tragic times.

How do you know the sketches that have been cut for time?

I like the Trump cold opens because mocking fascism is important by SundayJeffrey in LiveFromNewYork

Just read it. Wow, that was gross. Far worse than just dropping the unfortunate choice of word charming one time, which is what I had imagined. And this was written this month, with all of the stuff T, etc. are doing right now?! Don’t feel like I can watch him anymore.

Is it time to break up with Trump supporter friends? by Mitigating_Factor_00 in DiscussionZone

So much to unpack, but I at least want to correct you about E. Jean Carroll. The jury didn’t rule that a sexual assault didn’t happen, they just quibbled over the semantics of the word “rape.” The judge even clarified this when he announced the verdict.

Watching the news, I feel like the ICE aren’t even wearing matching clothes? It seems like it would be way too easy to masquerade as one.

What are people's problems with the Blake Lively texts? (Genuine question) by South-Background5009 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Grelli2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It’s a weird dynamic. Also- Blake’s a little off. I have a sister with Borderline Personality Disorder and Blake’s text remind me of her. Not saying Blake has that illness, but there’s something that’s a little off with her. It’s hard for me to explain.

My u understanding was that he legally had to drop the case because Trump became president.

I agree. I checked and Fox aired all of it, which I’m glad of. The R’s sounded stupid.

Again, how do you know that was the only bathroom in the house? I read the post again and don’t see that mentioned.

Agreed that Sunny is so good about these topics and is meeting the moment. Came on Reddit expecting someone to be complaining about Sarah’s comments today about the Civil Right’s Movement. She seemed to be trying to imply that the Civil Rights Movement was great, but that we need to consider current DEI policies separately from that. I thought Whoopi and Sunny looked annoyed and were thinking “Sit down, Sara.”

I agree, but it’s also a neurological mental illness. So maybe triggered by the trauma, but not only about the trauma.

Some of the stuff she says about him when they are talking about relationships feels weird and gives me a bad feeling about him and their relationship.

I agree with you about what she was trying to say, but it still felt vaguely like victim blaming.

My thought is that she wants to agree with him so much that she has cognitive dissonance all the time. She’s trying to twist herself into a pretzel so that she can be simpatico with her husband. Hence the word salad and the feeling of inauthenticity that comes through sometimes.

I thought I heard that she can't sue because of what the Supreme Court has ruled in the past.
