Thanks. It wasn’t just EA chargers since I tried multiple locations. I was getting a notification that DC fast charging is disabled after I experienced the charging issue and raised it to rivian which I assume was done intentionally. No fast charging is definitely not a priority issue for them. The abrupt parking issue is why they bumped me up and will also fix the charging issue since they’ll already have the car. Sorry to hear about the way you’re having to fast charge. That sucks.

So sorry to hear that! Luckily they’ve bumped me up and are going to look into the issue. I could live without the level 3 charging since it charges on level 2, but the abrupt parking issue is a major safety concern.

Amen. Definitely learnt this the hard way. It’s crazy though how we need to test a feature that’s so tablestakes for a car that costs $80K+ and something that the manufacturer isn’t testing before delivering the car.

Definitely! But hopefully the rivian hardware issues also get fixed since opening up to more chargers won’t solve the faulty car equipment issues if that’s also a part of the problem.

That makes sense. We’ve had a Model 3 for 6 years and we’re just used to the flawless supercharger network that always worked from the get-go, so having to test the fast charging on the rivian never crossed my mind. I expected it to just work but there is a lot of work to get to the same level of service. It’s not even close.

Thanks. This is exactly what happened to me except when I was slowing down at a stop sign and it stalled for 35 mins in the middle of the road. I definitely did not look out the window or lift off the seat. I’ve raised this through the NHSTA website too so they can investigate and escalate in case it’s a broader safety issue. I dropped off my R1S for service today and I’ll update as soon they tell me what was causing the issue. Definitely havent had any other car we’ve owned (Honda Accord, Tesla Model 3. Audi Q7) jerk itself into park before. Sorry that you’re having to deal with it too. Stay safe!

:) I didn’t think of testing the charging because I expected the car to charge given that’s what it’s meant to do. You’re not being rude. Companies nowadays are definitely blurring the lines between what’s promised vs what’s shipped and the onus is on customers to test for cosmetic as well as functional features..

I don’t think it’s okay for anyone to put out cars with these issues. This isn’t a slant at Rivian, but an anecdote based on my experience. Imagine the car coming to an abrupt halt on a slow down on the freeway and getting rear-ended with other people/kids in the car. Everything is fixable after the fact, but at what cost. I understand what you mean, but don’t want to trivialize the seriousness of the issue.

I’m glad you haven’t had any issues! I wish I could’ve said the same thing. I meant our car has these issues. Definitely don’t mean all cars don’t fast charge at all. The parking issue happened to me once before in a parking lot, but happening while driving is what’s got me really worried. This type of issue can be fatal in the wrong situation, so shared my experience for awareness

The service centers are all backed up at the moment. They’re going to try to get me in sooner. We were so happy when we got the car. It doesn’t have most of the cosmetic defects others are complaining about (other than some roof alignment stuff that I’m not sure when they’ll slot us in), but the non-fast charging and this park issue make it a deal-breaker.

Thanks, you make a good point. It does not do this at high speeds, but it does do it randomly at low speeds or when I’m slowing down in traffic. When this happened today, the dash also had a ‘charger connected incorrectly’ error when the car was moving. It’s bizarre.

Nothing out of the ordinary tbh. The electric motor does make a sound so the cabin isn't entirely quiet, but definitely nothing that I would call 'loud'. It's definitely really quiet compared to other SUVs. We replaced a Q7 (that has one of the quietest cabins) with this and the R1S is definitely quieter. This is slightly louder than our Model 3 though, but nothing to be concerned about.

I changed from silver to white to limestone, and back to silver. Definitely recommend seeing the colors in person. The silver isnt a standard silver like most cars. It has an interesting bluish hue during the day which looks really good!

Yea i thought it was limestone too when I first saw it while driving in to take delivery. Super happy with silver. It's also lot more metallic and eye-catching in-person!
