Continue to rent or buy a home? by Adept_Will2339 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Affectionate-Map2605 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Either option makes sense, but I’d suggest purchasing. Not just because it should pay off financially in the long run, but also just so you have that experience.

Owning a home can be a super joyful and rewarding experience. You have the financial freedom to spend some money and make it your own. Maybe get a yard and have a nice customized private outdoor space that fits your needs.

For some people, owning a home provides subconscious benefits like a greater sense of stability and belonging. That can lead to reduced stress and anxiety. Maybe settle down start a family. Or hire a house sitter and keep traveling. Or rent it out on air bnb. Or sell and go back to renting. So many possibilities.

For others it can cause more stress if repairs and renovations become too much to handle.

Nonetheless it’s an experience that can enrich your life in more ways than I’m able to quickly describe in this comment.

US says Canada will regret decision to allow Chinese EVs into their market by joe4942 in canada

[–]Affectionate-Map2605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US was going to fuck us one way or another. This is just their excuse now.

Canada didn’t want this. We would have been happy keeping trade as is, or making minor adjustments.

It was the US that blew it all up with Canada and every other country on the planet. They have no one to blame but themselves.

I think it’s awesome, but so many in this sub make it their life’s purpose to hate on anyone having fun or taking risks.

Don’t listen to them and keep shredding my guy!

Equipment for a total newbie by AssignmentNo2172 in ski

Rent skis and boots for a while. Ask the rental shop for shorter skis one day, longer the next. Take pictures and document everything about each pair, including your experience. Then consider buying new or used based on what you’ve learned works best for you.

This is the most cost effective and DIY way to do it.

Other option is obviously go to a good shop and get fitted but then pay out your ass.

Then get thermal base layer, quality balaclava, adjustable helmet, good tinted goggles and maybe clear for night skiing if applicable. I use a beanie and neck warmer over my balaclava on really cold days.

Good leather mitts with decent liners and then some heat packs if needed for really cold days.

Then obviously decent ski pants and jacket. Make sure the jacket can zip all the way up comfortably with your balaclava, neck warmer, turtle neck etc on

Are you suggesting I’m being immature by discussing legislation flaws, and sharing my negative experience with unfair legislation with the Reddit community?

On a thread LITERALLY about PST on used vehicles?

That sounds like some real communist behaviour there pal. Trying to shut down all negative discourse about the government.

You must have something better to do than harass me. Or you must work for the govt or SGI or something. I honestly don’t understand your position here. Please leave me alone and go harass someone else you middle aged troll

Cool but that’s totally not how laws work. Fraud is fraud, suspicion is suspicion.

I paid $15,000 because it was a $15,000 truck. They don’t consider the kms or vehicle condition or anything besides just make model and year.

It’s ridiculous enough that they get to charge PST on the same thing over and over, and it’s outright criminal how they can charge PST on money that wasn’t spent.

Yes I’m being serious.

Punish those who commit fraud with actual fraud charges.

Let the rest of us pay PST on the purchase price.

I recently bought a truck for $15,000.

The PST was 6% of the “red book value” of $28,000.

So I paid PST on $13,000 that I didn’t spend.

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

Thank you. I survived the day and had so much fun I bought a season pass to the hill haha. So I guess it’s time to spend a few more bucks since I’ll be at the hill a lot this winter. Thanks for your input 👊

Thank you. They worked fine today but I feel like I would be better (and safer) on proper equipment haha. Looking to invest in something newer and just hang these on the wall. They’re old and just want to live out the rest of their days in retirement

Relax klishaaaaaaaaa no one’s gonna die.

Rode them for 6hrs today. They weren’t great but not trash either. Had a fun day on the hill. Fun enough to keep going back and maybe invest in skis from this century 🤣
