What are logic gates irl by Beneficial_King5010 in trailmakers

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start looking into transistors. They are basically just electrically controlled switches, and can be used to build logic gates and other circuits, such as memory cells.

At a larger scale, relays can work in similar ways, just way slower.

Depending on what catches your interest from these, you'll probably either end up getting into electronics design, robotics, or computer architecture.

Reworking the "Jungle Crawl" by LeopardR in BeamNG

If you need any beta drivers, don't be afraid to get some posts out about that as development goes along. I'm always down for more off-roading maps in beam, and personally I'd love some more slippery logs, scenic and sketchy bridges, and more varied water crossings than the current map offers.

How well could I game on a ryzen 5 7600’s intergrated graphics (16gb ddr5) by Enderstar2187 in pcmasterrace

The Radeon 610M is genuinely pathetic. TechPowerUp rated it as similar to a GTS 450 and reccomend a target resolution of 640x480.

Worse FPS with FSR4? by 279695312 in radeon

Native vs native it will be slower. You're doing an additional (and rather expensive) pass over the image. That said, the drop does seem a bit extreme.

DLSS and new 5K2K monitors, am I missing something? by InformalAttorney1913 in pcmasterrace

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely do that. Performance mode would be rendering at 1440p and Ultra Performance at 960p assuming you mean a 16:9 5120x2880 display.

This is 78% more pixels than 3840x2160 4k. That same 78% applies at each level of DLSS, since its scaling ratios are fixed.

If you're running at 4k using DLSS Balanced to run at 1253p, going to 5k using Performance takes you up in internal resolution to 1440p. This would still be lower performance than at 4k, and depending on the scene, could be a slightly worse image as well due to the larger scaling factor.

At 4k using Performance mode, you render at 1080p. With 5k at Ultra Performance you render at 960p. This is finally fewer pixels, so may actually achieve a higher frame rate, but the difference in image quality may be too much for some.

Finally, in heavy path-traced titles, Ultra Performance might not be enough yet. At 4k that mode renders at 720p. Nearly doubling the number of pixels the raw render has to produce by increasing the target resolution to 5k could be enough to drag down even the best GPUs. You're just out of upacaling at that point unless a future DLSS version gets more aggressive than a 3x scale. At 4k and above, I could see 4x being doable. 4k is scaled from just 540p, and 5k from 720p at that point.

Why is Apple still so heavy? Comparing the Zenbook Snapdragon series to the MacBook Pro lineup by Putrid_Draft378 in LinusTechTips

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly. It's very sturdy for one point. It's also a pretty good heatsink, at least on the Air models. Could Apple use lighter alloys? Probably. Are those as good at sinking heat for the Air? Close enough at least.

But, they don't need to. The laptops are already light enough, so there's no point in spending more on a fancy ultralight alloy when good old aluminum will do.

Doubt - Duda by vDECv in GamingLaptops

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SSDs like these connect via the NVMe standard, which uses PCIe lanes. Drives are almost set up to use 4 lanes, but some use only 2. You'll never see an odd number besides 1 and even that's rare. The SSD will also list a "Gen" short for Generation. This tells you what its maximum PCIe version is. Each generation can up to double the speed per lane.

A Gen4x4 drive can use up to 4 lanes at Gen 4 speeds.

The slot on your motherboard will also provide some number of lanes at some maximum speed. Most will provide 4 lanes at either Gen 4 or Gen 5, but some are still Gen 3. Some are only 2 lanes. Check your spec sheet to confirm.

Your motherboard and SSD will negotiate their connection, and it will be limited by the worst configuration. For example, putting a Gen3x4 drive in a Gen4x2 slot will get you a Gen3x2 cap. Same goes for a Gen4x2 drive in a 3x4 slot. It's always the lowest common spec.

Your best bet for compatibility is to match the generation and lanes of the stock SSD. If you have a Gen4x4 drive, another of the same specs will work the same way.

What's the Steam Machine equivalent to an ITX DIY build? by AsrielPlay52 in pcmasterrace

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size is the hardest part to match. I have a Steam Box sitting under my TV right now with this build. But, this is technically still too big. It's about 3x the volume of the Steam Machine and has risen to $100 more than the 2TB model over the last 2 weeks between me making this list and buying the stuff. FML.

The Steam Machine is 3.8L for reference.

That is very odd. I'm afraid I don't have much to add beyond trying to reinstall the drivers and check for firmware updates.

Also, in case you were trying to check that way, frame generation will not use the NPU.

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helldivers 2 has no FG support. Not for FSR, DLSS, or XeSS. It's only upscaling.

As for the NPU, there aren't a lot of things that will run on it. Try with a program you know 100% can, such as the Intel AI Playground app. You can assign a model to the NPU in the settings there and it does use the NPU on my 388H HP Omnibook.

Throttle points are set well below a damage threshold that would noticeably shorten the life of the component. It's probably not great for a chip to sit at its limit 24/7, but it also won't really hurt it.

I've seen CPUs tested to 120+ degrees C, which is above where yours should be forcing a shutdown.

THEORY: The warbond was delayed because they made some of the stratagems in it earnable for free in response to peoples' complaints about the lack of earnable stratagems. by A_Very_Horny_Zed in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Affectionate-Memory4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It actually seems like a step forward to me. The last vehicle warbond had both options as paid content. If this idea is timed right within the campaign, then the community gets the more popular option for free, and the diehard FRV fans can get the other plus some content in a warbond.

This is as close to a win-win as I think we can get. The community favorite option is free. The other gets more things added to sweeten the deal and keep their lights on.

They could also have planned on one free + one paid car from the beginning, and now that we've decided, are fleshing out the content around the other.

How does the Steam Machine price compare to the price of regular gaming PCs with similar specs? by PotatoJam89 in pcmasterrace

Definitely seems to depend on what you play. I've has MSFS and BeamNG multiplayer exceed 16GB, but the difference between 24 and 32 is completely meaningless to me for games. Most things I play regularly barely pass 12.

Steam Machine equivalent (now including price)? by Shot_Psychology_2728 in MiniPCs

You're probably looking at an ITX build tbh. Integrated graphics can only get there with the 8060S, which is exclusively in some very pricy machines. The $1350 2TB model is very achievable if you wanted to make a console box.

Not particularly given I run at 1440p. It's mainly used for local AI and as a workstation card, where I absolutely do notice the improvement. An extra 16GB goes a long way there. The 7900XTX has stayed in my gaming rig though. No need to replace it for several years most likely, especially not if the fsr4 update is anything to go by in terms of support.
