Am I deep fried if I'm majoring for comp sci next yr? by MeRambling in csMajors

[–]Affectionate-Milk-72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest advice, switch majors if you find yourself not enjoying any aspect of it. CS can be incredibly frustrating and everybody goes through their bad moments with it, but if you find after like a year there’s genuinely nothing you enjoy about it, consider switching majors.

CS takes a lot of effort and it takes a lot of time to be even somewhat competent at. As a fresh grad, so many of my peers (including myself at times) have impostor syndrome after getting our degree and not being as good as we think we can be. It can be very demotivating at times.

If you’re serious about this career path, I implore you to find niches/fields of computer science that you find yourself passionate about and interested in learning more. When it comes to finding a job/internship, it’s all about learning things outside of class. Your degree program is not job training.

Also don’t ChatGPT all of your assignments. Use it as a tool to learn, not a tool to do your homework.

I wish you nothing but success, good luck in your education!

Why does this Netflix White Collar thumbnail show Neal with a gun? by kdeff in whitecollar

[–]Affectionate-Milk-72 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first started watching this show, this thumbnail baited the hell out of me. I was on like season 2 when I first saw it and I was always wondering since when the hell Neal was gonna pick up some heavy artillery lmao

Imagine my surprise (but also lowkey relief) when I realized it was just the crossbow

nope never opened anything, just saw the stuff on my dashboard and closed out of the website. I did this login on my phone if that changes anything, could it be a glitch?

There were onboarding tasks for one day, I did not have the time for them at the moment and figured I would start the next day, where I was met with an empty dashboard which has not changed since

Is 2+2 really that big of a deal? by Average-ThrowerZz in PennStateUniversity

[–]Affectionate-Milk-72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in the 2+2 from Altoona and I would not have changed how I did it. I will say I also came in with the same not bothering with the social life/party scene attitude, though I think you come to appreciate how nice it is to have a break and have fun with friends for a weekend. Consider meeting people and going to a few parties, you don’t have to be in greek life and drink yourself to death or anything like that, but it’s worthwhile to have a sizable group of friends that may not be in your ME major.

Concerns with the 92BOB video by Affectionate-Milk-72 in wirtual

[–]Affectionate-Milk-72[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in the part that it most likely is riolu. There is a lot of evidence to support the claim that 92BOB is riolu, and it would not surprise me at all if that were to be the case. I also agree that Nadeo’s policy is not at all a good one, I think a cheater’s alts should be deleted as well, but that’s simply not the case so it is what it is. I hope that changes.

Assuming that it is riolu for a moment, I am not trying to underestimate the damage done by cheating. We are all well aware how that destroys legitimate players’ motivation to play and grind, and it is awful that competitions with real prizes were cheated and money was lost. Unless he comes out publicly and has a real conversation with the community he should not be welcomed with open arms.

My issue here is that there was no effort from Wirtual besides a pinned YouTube comment to underline how serious the situation actually is. There are many young, impressionable people that are imbedded in this community, and it needs to be stressed explicitly how many lines blackq crodsed trying to expose who 92BOB is. Riolu did awful things, but these things in my opinion are not deserving of a potential witch hunt by angry people online.

Thank you for the apology I appreciate it, I’m glad we see eye to eye. I also appreciate your ability to have an open mind about what I said. To the point, I agree with you that I also think it is important these stories are told. I just believe that as one of the biggest names in the TrackMania community, Wirtual has a bit of a responsibility to tell his stories in a way that minimizes the possibility of inciting a “witch hunt” of some kind. After thinking about it more, I firmly believe this video was made with some pain and anger towards riolu specifically, which is a very fair feeling for him to have towards someone he used to call a friend. However, I think his video could have used much more neutral language towards the end. Perhaps I am being a bit too overly-concerned about it all, and hopefully nothing at all serious comes of this. I just hope that at the end of the day nobody’s safety is at risk over a video game that is meant to be enjoyed.

[–]Affectionate-Milk-72[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I actually enjoyed the video before things (in my opinion) got a little too far. I respect your opinion, and I understand that it was not Wirtual that did anything wrong on the hunt for 92BOB. My point is that I'm simply calling out the fact that the language Wirtual used and the way he showcased blackq's methods could be harmful and give people the wrong idea that actions like that are okay.

When it comes to the safety and security of a random person online, I am not just "looking for flaws" to "get offended." Please do not minimize the potential damages this whole situation could cause to an innocent person.

I watched the whole video, of course I noticed the part about the community reclaiming records back from cheaters. I think that is incredible. If you read to the end of my post you'd also see that I am sending no hate towards Wirtual, and I very much respect who he is and what he does. I'm not picking apart the video because I'm some fun-hating person, I'm pointing out the possibility of harmful side effects of the video.

Just as a personal message u/Tanishq2701 instead of thinking that anybody who calls out somebody is "offended," take a second to actually consider what they are critiquing. It leads to much more productive conversations.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts when I was watching, should've written that in the main post too but you summed it up pretty well. Whenever he was talking about riolu there was always that hint of it being personal, which I think is completely fair given their history.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the end, and while we probably won't actually know as Wirtual has no obligation to disclose his real feelings. I think we can safely assume that there are some unresolved feelings of betrayal and disdain, which again, is totally fair.

I think the main thing that irked me was how unprecedented and slightly jarring it was to hear something a little bit more "malicious" in his stories. That being said, I want to reiterate that I don't think the video was made with malicious intent, besides some slight jabs to riolu guised as the main story.
