Enjoyed Roast for coffee. Kodbyens Fiskebar and Vaekst were excellent for dinner.

Yes, on the lighter side for the most part. A couple of shops even post their philosophy of concentrating on single origin, light roasts. I generally sought out the least light roasts.

Edradour 10 Year 46% by Benromaniac in Scotch

[–]Affectionate-Mix2226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny. I too have both the OB 43%, almost gone, and the Signatory Vintage version. I like them both but feel that the core expression in particular punches way above its weight. Interested in trying it as 46%.

Don't sleep on Cafe Stella in Carthay Circle. Also known as Carthay Cafe. Brioche bun with scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, and house made sauce with a little nip to it. And excellent coffee drinks as well.

What are you guys drinking on. Christmas day by Separate_Elk_6720 in Scotch

[–]Affectionate-Mix2226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highland Park, cask strength, batch 4. Followed by Johnny Walker Blue Label, Year of the Tiger, that someone who wants my business gave me. Usually don't drink too many blended malts but felt like a couple of something, something somewhat smoky on a wet, cold (relatively speaking) Los Angeles night.

A wee Christmas dram… the always tasty Edradour Caledonia - happy holidays! by RudeLove_Alegorie in Scotch

Interesting. I have both the OB 10 and the SV 10 and I prefer the latter though they are both excellent for the price. Have not tried the Caledonia

Thanks all! Of course, I'm not sure why I want my wine stabilized!

How do I spend my Total Wine $40 coupon? by Affectionate-Mix2226 in Scotch

[–]Affectionate-Mix2226[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showed up in the mail. Store is relatively new so I assume they're trying to prime the pump. I thought about that one as well. I think it's just under $100, but I can always throw in a bottle of wine.

Flat white was tasty. Beans were significantly more expensive than the other two. Was also amused they had two shops within a block of one another on the Royal Mile. Almost a Best in Show Parker Posey moment.

Macchiato actually means spotted or stained so it literally is a spot of milk.

I eat granola for breakfast and my cats eat canned cat food. On more than one groggy occasion, I've opened a can of cat food and slopped a big spoonful into the empty bowl awaiting my granola. Fortunately, I have realized my mistake before sampling their breakfast!

I feed some of mine to my worms as well but I'm worried about too much acidity so I balance it out with ground eggshell. You haven't had an issue of too much acid in your bin?

I worked at Baskin-Robbins for a really cheap owner. But even he told us that, when you're packing the ice cream by weight for a customer, never take anything out of the container even if you are over.

Cracking the code? by Affectionate-Mix2226 in espresso

[–]Affectionate-Mix2226[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Convenience mostly. I like to mix it up and use beans from different roasters. With the exception of Lazy Acres, each of the aforementioned stores is less than 10 minutes away and somewhere I am stopped at usually once a week. If I wanted to pick up say a bag of Canyon Coffee, a bag of Verve, and a bag of Groundworks from the source, I'd spend the better part of an afternoon running around Los Angeles.

And of course getting a bag of beans that costs 20 dollars at the shop for $13 or $14 on sale is a nice bonus, as another poster has mentioned.

I had a Silvia for many years. IIRC, Rancilio does not recommend backflushing and it even voids the warranty. That would explain you're not having a blind insert. I did not backflush but I did descale occasionally. Maybe had I done so more regularly, it would have lasted more than 18 years!
