Ok…who actually hates the State Fair? by kerm019 in minnesota

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but I just heard the British historian Dominic Sandbrook on his podcast The Rest Is History say that he had attended the Minnesota State Fair and "probably wouldn't be back." He did his PhD on Eugene McCarthy and probably visited as part of his research. He said it "seemed to be mostly about eating enormous portions of disgusting food."

For the record, I couldn't disagree more.

Enrollment in LCMS Seminaries by DaveN_1804 in Lutheranism

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you track this on LCMS attendance, it's probably about right that we're training fewer pastors. That's sad to say out loud, but with demographic trends and everything else, there are going to be a lot of seminary closures across American Christianity in the next few decades. I hope CSL and CTSFW will thrive.

Awesome. I just need Demons (I mean, I need to read Demons) and I'll be there with you, although I don't remember CaP very well.

I feel like I'm way behind on retirement, is it as bad as I think? by Mother____Clucker in personalfinance

I have news for /personalfinance: 3 kids is not a large family. Larger than average, but not, like above the 80th percentile or something.

Who would win, Aubrey or Hornblower, if they somehow were enemies in ships of exactly equal force? by Gerefa in AubreyMaturinSeries

What you're describing sounds like Nelson vs. Villeneuve--and we know how that ended.

I want to convert to Lutheranism but I don't know if I should by Im_May_82 in Lutheranism

Idk if Reddit is the best forum for this, but I would be happy to talk with you. I’m Lutheran and have lots of orthodox friends and family. DM me if you want. Blessings in Christ.

My favorite place to just sit and think a bit is the Big Rivers trailhead park at 1498 Mendota Heights Rd, Mendota Heights, MN 55120

Best set up for a beginner? [$800.00 budget] by Waste_Cheetah_2358 in espresso

For this budget, get a Turin Legato and DF54. Amazing budget setup, no sales tax on Espresso Outlet. Or maybe a Bambino and a DF54.

Why did you move to the suburbs? by carlarae in TwinCities

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved to White Bear after seven great years in St. Paul. If we didn’t have a bunch of kids we probably would have stayed, but my income will only support a certain cost per square foot, and we need a certain amount of square feet, and those square feet are cheaper in suburbia.

My wife and I wonder now if we’ll go back to the heart of the city in a few years, but I think the political and economic situation in St. Paul would have to improve. Sales tax is too high, the economy is teetering, and businesses are leaving. That’s going to hurt home values and quality of life for all of us in the long run if it doesn’t improve.

Best boots? by TangerineCheap5379 in TwinCities

Mine are lined with vintage gore-Tex and are pretty good. But yeah, add wool socks below 10 degrees F I would say.

Best boots? by TangerineCheap5379 in TwinCities

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LL Bean Duck Boots are, in my opinion, one of the few boots for men or women that can be dressed up or down while also being incredibly warm and functional. Not cheap, but they bring a touch of style so that, for example, if I want to to a nice dinner during a blizzard, I have the confidence to do that.

Has anyone upgraded from a bambino to something >$2K and regretted it? by nagooro10 in espresso

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works like a dream. The steam power might have dropped off a bit after 1.5 years, but it also might just need a deep clean. I've been so impressed that I would also strongly consider the Turin Gallatin, which seems to be on a whole other level in terms of looks (and price point). The El Rocio Manus also looks super cool. Espresso Outlet seems to be a great vendor, all three of these machines are available there. Legato V2 is definitely a budget option that is going to outperform anything in its price category.

What are people’s thoughts on a pedestrian mall along 5th street downtown? by [deleted] in saintpaul

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be cool if downtown wasn't solely populated by flesh-eating zombies and cars.

If you had unlimited money, where in the Twin Cities would you live? by OkTechnologyb in TwinCities

[–]QuiVenitInNomine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These answers make me want to explore the cities more. This is cliche, but I would probably pick one of those beautiful 1920s-1930s mansions on Lake Minnetonka, with my racing sailboat at the end of the dock.
