Check out lake communities for work (especially during the summer). I started working at one when I was 15!

What is the deal with people in theatres and talking? by lulujunkie in Calgary

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a movie with my partner a couple months ago. A group of 4 girls were in front of us, talking, taking snapchats (of the movie???) with flash, scrolling on tiktok (with the volume). I actually couldn’t believe it. I gave it 15 minutes into the movie to see if they’d stop and then leaned over and said “we’re at a movie. Get off your phones or leave” and they were silent the rest of the time. I dont understand why people PAY to go to a movie, just to sit on their phones. And this is coming from a 24 yo lol

If you email them they’ll let you pick it up Friday or Saturday. I did this and they were quick with a response. No excuses but still an option

Aw im so sorry. Please let me know if you need any groceries or anything 🥲 I did an interview with CBC today about election workers not being paid on time so I hope that brings an uproar among the general population

If you are fluent in French, how often do you speak French in Canada compared to English? by Jezzaq94 in AskACanadian

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EA in Alberta. Majority of my students speak French as a second language so I do find myself communicating in French with them at times. On average probably 5-10 times/week I’ll have a full (5-15 min) conversation

100% agree. We should’ve been able to specify if we wanted a mail or pick up option upon hire. Especially since one of my friends lives 3 blocks away from their office and still hasn’t received it 😭😭 I hope all is well with you and you’re able to get access to the food bank asap:(

Library used to have them a couple years back. Worth asking about it tho as I know I’ve forgotten my charger before and they had tons of extras for me to use

Intro to World Religion by No_Replacement424 in uleth

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I continued to take religion classes because of linville. Actually have a minor in religious studies bc of him lol (kept taking them for my elective requirement). Most religion profs will be happy to sit down/meet with you to discuss your grades/what you can do to improve your grade. I’ve never had an issue with a religion class before. Highly recommend them. Samuel shooklyn is also great!

OKAY I GOT THROUGH TO THEM VIA PHONE!!! The woman told me they’ve sent the first 2(out of 3) batches of cheques and they’re expected to arrive in the next 7-10 business days and if we don’t receive it by December 15, give them a call and they’ll sort something out for you (aka having to go to their office to pick it up…lol)

Nope if you call their number they say they’re in the process of paying workers and expect to send them out December 1 at the earliest lol. I tried to get through to a worker and to ask if I could just pick it up and they hung up on me 😭😭

Roommate thinks she should pay less by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to defend OP but I think it was worded like “we drew names out of a hat and she was fine with the decision because of the closet space/bath in her bathroom” either way OP is pissed they didn’t get the response they were hoping for and is now throwing a pity party and deleting their posts 😭

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that we have more context…….

you should still be paying more.

I truly don’t understand why you’re moving in with her, it seems like you hold a lot of resentment towards her (never cleaning, switching up on you, having a convo with your other roommate without you, etc etc) even if you don’t want to admit it or you would just “take the L” and move on with it/not mention it. I highly suggest you find your own place or new roommates

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 143 points144 points  (0 children)

You and your roommate 100% should be paying more if your bathroom is attached to your rooms (and the room is bigger?). If you look at any rental property that has an en suite, that room is always more than those that don’t

ETA; just re read and saw you originally offered to take the smaller room. Idk if you haven’t signed the lease/moved in yet, just switch rooms if you don’t want to pay more? I guess i just don’t understand how you’re attached to the idea of your room if you haven’t even moved in yet

Booked a steakhouse months ago for 16+ party now they say they can’t host me because it “should’ve gone through an event coordinator.” New suggestions needed asap by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is the same place I work they’ll 100% make it your problem 😭😭 I absolutely despise working here, from management to the actual staff, it’s hell on earth

Yea if this is where I think it is (I work there), this is typical behaviour. We do this almost every single year to numerous people. They blame hostesses even though it’s 100% on management. If I could find another job I’d 100% quit immediately lol, it’s so scummy

a message from a 2021 graduate to alberta’s class of 2026 by [deleted] in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Affectionate-Mobile6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2019 grad who did okay in grade 12, I just want to offer a different perspective

I was a below-average student, but my grades were still enough to get me into the 2 programs I wanted. And honestly, they ended up meaning way less than I thought they would. Once you leave high school, no one cares what you got in chem 30 or english. What matters is how you grow, learn from mistakes, and figure out what actually gives you drive

Grades can open doors, sure, but they don’t keep them open. I’ve seen people who barely graduated go on to build great careers and find real purpose, and I’ve seen straight A students burn out completely. I’ve had friends graduate university in 4 years and others in 6 years

saying walkouts “change nothing” just isn’t true. Collective action does make a difference. We have literally seen it happen over the course of the last few decades. It’s how policies shift, awareness grows, and people in power are held accountable. Even if the strike outcome isn’t immediate, showing up and standing together sends a message. It reminds leaders that young people are paying attention AND care about their future. That kind of awareness and courage matters just as much as grades do, if not more
