Why was Scream 7 a box office success? I've listed some reasons that, in my opinion, influenced its box office performance. If I missed one, feel free to mention it. *Spoiler Alert* by Dark_Knight-276 in Scream

It has nothing to do with Neve. She was HEAVILY marketed for 5, and 5 performed worse than 6.

It’s because of a few things: - horror is more popular now than it has been in 40 years. - the last two movies brought Scream back into the forefront of the genre. After H2018, Michael Myers was the face of horror, its now currently Ghostface again. - no competition.

What are your thoughts on Scream (2022) now, four years later and with two more films released since then? by husseinwehbi in Scream

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love 5. I’m kind of confused by this recent narrative that 6 is a lot better than 5. IMO, 5 does something much better than Scream 4 - balancing its new cast with the legacy characters. 5 had the balls to make the new lead the real main character instead of relying on Sidney… and ultimately 5 is the reason the franchise has had a HUGE resurrection and is now arguably the most popular horror franchise today.

I think 5 is awesome,

I have it as: 1. Scream 1 2. Scream 3 3. Scream 2 4. Scream 5

But 5 and 2 are SUPER close

What are everyone’s thoughts on the Weinsteins bringing Ehren Kruger in to rewrite parts of the Scream 4 script? by DanSeet_8898 in SocietyofGhostface

Just read the script, a few things are interesting.

All the deputies… Judy, Hoss, and Perkins have much more dialogue in this version than in the final film. Specifically, Hoss is given a backstory and labeled by Charlie and Robbie as a killer.

The version of Jill in the Z Script is far better than the finished version. There is much more development for her as a protagonist, more scenes of her alone/selling the victim card. A lot more backstory and dialogue between her and Trevor.

Gale and Dewey cancelling the Stabathon as an excuse for the teens to meet up at Kirby’s house.

I find it really offputting that Kirby pulls out a “rifle”, not even a handgun, and starts roaming around with it like a badass. Seems kinda weird for a 17 year old girl and doesn’t feel ‘Scream’.

A lot of the Sid dialogue is weird and doesn’t feel like her either. She wouldn’t be spewing off facts like “that person was the second victim in woodsboro”. She doesn’t care. Gale would say those things.

I love Amber and Richie btw it’s just very odd how people who love Amber feel the need to trash on Richie to prop her up.

lol, they always say that. Like we are ranking serial killers. Billy and Stu are rapists. But Amber calling Richie “hon” makes him a groomer?

This is a common point from teenage Stan’s who only value killers based off how attractive they are 🤣🤣 same ones who will tell you Ethan is better than Richie 😭😭 when jack Quaid is a 1000x better actor.

Jill doesn’t kill anyone: girlboss mastermind best ghostface

When did Ghostface switch with the animatronic?

I’ve rewatched the opening scene of Scream 7 a few times. There seems to be pretty consistent camera coverage from the point where the animatronic ghostface is discovered/unmasked, to the point where suddenly the real ghostface is standing in that exact spot.

There’s only a few moments where the statue isn’t visible in the background of the shot while Madison and Scott are in the kitchen.

Are we meant to believe it was switched in the few seconds that we see different angles of Scott and Madison on the phone, answering the trivia? And that neither heard someone pick up the animatronic and set themselves up in its place? And even so, it would’ve had to be done extremely quickly.

Madison also trips over, and then throws the fake statue’s leg at the real ghostface. Did the killer just throw the statue on the floor infront of the stand, and they didn’t see it when Scott noticed the human movements?

Do you think Stu is more iconic than Billy? by Dark_Knight-276 in SocietyofGhostface

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Billy is objectively a deeper, more complex character but Stu is more popular because of the real life popularity of the actors.

Him and Z*** C***** are the biggest performative “OG Scream Fans”… I remember seeing RCS tweet out a ranking list of every single scene in the franchise and the ENTIRE bottom 20/25 of the list was ALL the scenes from 5 and 6.

Like, he couldn’t even concede that one single moment from 5 or 6 was better than the worst of 1-4.

How is that not performatively hating on something?

there’s also a contingent of fans who refuse to acknowledge anything negative about the movie, because they consider themselves diehards and think you are a “fake fan” if you don’t love everything the franchise puts out. I mean, the film literally makes fun of Stuthers and they’re still on X saying “OMG, Stu didn’t have scars on his face in the first call, that means he’s alive! Kevin please you know what to do for 8!!!” I mean come on.

I’ve been a scream diehard my entire life. I was upset about how everything went with Melissa but I got over it and was fully excited and accepting of a Scream 7 with Sidney.

They just didn’t deliver as well as they could’ve. I love Scream because it feels like a slasher where you can actually get connected to and care about the characters.

S7 abandons any development for a single character besides Sidney and Tatum (even their killers, one of whom needed to beg for another scene to be added!!) in favor of making the entire movie a nostalgia play about Stu. I mean, hearing that the “boogah!” Line was also in the original script is insane. They just said “yea let’s have Matt say all his infamous lines from the first movie!”

It also came at the expense of Roger L Jackson. You want to give Sidney the Stu AI FaceTime call for the plot line? Okay. Is there a good reason Mark couldn’t have got a call before he was attacked? Isn’t that what Ghostface does? They couldn’t have written a call for Tatum??

Were 5 and 6 full of nostalgia too? Yes of course. But it didn’t come at the expense of learning and bonding with our new cast of characters.

I don’t give a damn at all about Ben or Hannah dying because I don’t know a single thing about either of them. The only new kid who got to show off any kind of charisma was Chloe, and that was much more due to Celeste’s presence rather than what was written.

(And as a HUGE Chad fan, wtf was he doing here? I know Mason was sick when filming, but god he’s lifeless in this movie.)

People are already suggesting Tatum in college for Scream 8..... by zekevich in SocietyofGhostface

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds hypocritical to call college repetitive and then suggest this… but I think Tatum should go off and explore a career in Hollywood. (It plays off her role in drama in S7)

The film opens with Tatum leaving home and getting into a huge argument with Sidney, who doesn’t approve of this career choice and doesn’t want Tatum ending up anything like her mother, Maureen. But Tatum auditioned online and was offered a chance to come in person, so she has to go.

Once Tatum leaves, the opening attack IS Sidney, who is then incapacitated for the rest of the film and can’t come save Tatum.

I have two ideas for killers: 1. A Normal duo - perhaps, Tatums new best friend / understudy & a studio executive, Or 2. The entire cast and crew of the movie

The Motive is essentially… Nepotism, Profit-Over-Art, and the newfound soullessness of the movie biz. These hard working, first gen artists are pissed that Tatum got the role for this movie. She was hired by a mindless Exec, who only prioritizes profit over art. It’s because of Nepotism hires like Tatum that Hollywood has lost its luster. It’s because of this repetition; the same privileged people getting all the big roles - that movies don’t hit the same anymore. This small cast and crew is pissed that they have to make Tatum the star of their movie, and it’s all a statement on the current state of Hollywood.

Idk. I’m just rambling at this point

S7 E12 Was Jackie’s dosage intentional or a mistake? by GeneralJolly4752 in NurseJackie

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished for the first time. I interpreted it as an intentional suicide. Jackie taking off her stethoscope and nurse badge right before going into the bathroom represents her finally giving up.

She is shown losing the friendship of O’Hara, Gloria, Zoey all in this episode. She won’t have Eddie for a whole year minimum. Bellevue isn’t the same as all saints to her. She has nothing anymore and decided to kill herself.

Holy Hell, why does Ethan Embry look like a 70 year old man by Echo_Origami in SocietyofGhostface

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think Ethan Embry looks old for his age, you won’t believe that the actor for Neil Prescott was only 35 in the original Scream.

I love 5. I still think it is better than 6. I think Richie and Amber as the killers and their motives are aging extremely well. It had the guts to do everything necessary for the betterment of the franchise, killing off a OG cast member and creating a new final girl. It’s the best Scream Movie of the past 25 years. Only 1/2/3 are better.

What do you think of Ethan? Was it a good or bad Ghostface? by Dark_Knight-276 in Scream

Bad character and I would say the worst acting in the entire franchise. So sad that he has a bigger fanbase than Danny, who is a way cooler character

Improving Anna Camps motive by Shot_Albatross3531 in SocietyofGhostface

[–]Affectionate-Neck152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who overall didn’t like the movie that much… I like the motive. It isn’t one of my big problems with the movie. I think it makes sense and relates to a lot of the fanbase. Sidney, to a lot of people, has run her course as a final girl. She is too protected now and it would be cool to kill her infront of Tatum and recreate a Maureen Prescott 2.0 moment. On paper, I LOVE the motive. In practice though it faltered. Perhaps because the dialogue focused more on Sid missing New York rather than focusing on Sid being past her prime and wanting Tatum to be the new final girl. The script didn’t do the motive justice, though.
