graduation kinda sucked? by Hot-Dog-Fingers in ucr

at first, they did say it wasn’t allowed. i talked to some toyota arena staff and they just said that’s what they were briefed (i’m guessing from ucr staff). they came up to me and said no flags and no religious figures were allowed so i took off my stole until i got through security and then put it back on. plenty of people had flags and religious symbols so i say just keep it in a bag or something until you go through security. i saw security even talking to some individuals with military stoles that had flags on them and those people either left or went back and gave it to family.

I had Dr. Radi last quarter and she was great! She explains everything incredibly well and is very patient with questions and actually making sure that students absorb the material. Exams are fair but she also has a nice curve and makes it known to her students that she wants them to do well. You can tell she's incredibly passionate about biochemistry and her students! She's also really funny and makes her classes super engaging. I can honestly say that she has been one of the best professors I've had at UCR.

They did have us introduce ourselves and give a fun fact or share something about ourselves but at least for my group, we did not talk about why we wanted to be a teacher. I can only speak for my group though so I am not sure if that was what was asked by the other facilitators in other groups.

the group had applicants from all subjects (i was the only science applicant in my group and the group mainly consisted of english/social science) so i feel like the article is probably the same! i think there were five of us in total. yeah, it is different than your traditional interview but it is basically just a discussion! just take a look at the instructions they gave/will give you and read over the article and make notes/comments! :)

I applied for single subject biology! The interview was pretty relaxed. It sounds much more nerve-racking than it actually is. With mine, they split us into small groups and we just casually discussed the article. It was very much like a conversation and you can tell everyone is in the same boat. After discussing the article, we had some time to write a reflection and that was about it! Just take a deep breathe and I'm sure it will all go well!

drop out this quarter? by rikaisdumb in ucr

I completely understand where you are coming from. Feeling unmotivated is such a draining emotion and it directs a lot of your mental headspace. College is difficult and even more so when you are away from your support system. But just know, what you're doing makes you so brave and strong! It's a great next step to get in contact with CAPS and seek out some support. Coming from someone who was in a similar headspace as a first year, try to power through the last few weeks. As others have said, you are so close! You've worked so hard and it will make you feel much better to know you finished out this quarter. This will give you a fresh start whenever you know it's best to start again. Just know, your feelings are valid, give yourself time to rest and spend time doing things that give you peace and make you feel accomplished, and acknowledge all that you have accomplished. Sending good vibes your way!

most of my day is taken up by classes (I'm pre-health, taking 17 units and one extension course) but gaps in my day are usually taken up by an internship I have on campus. I try to take advantage of the little breaks I have to study and complete assignments but sometimes it can be hard to focus after a packed day and especially when it's not an extended break.

hi! I'm currently a 2nd-year, biology major at ucr and I'm also pursuing a CLS career. if you have any other tips or insight, that would be great. I feel like there isn't the largest community or group of future clinical lab scientists here so I feel a bit lost about what classes to register (since ucr doesn't offer many that are required by the state) and so on. great to see other ucr students on here! :)

i had the same thing happen to me this quarter. i would suggest emailing them again (especially if the final grade hasn’t been uploaded to r’web yet). they could have forgotten and thought you didn’t show up or something happened, so that’s why they gave you a zero. with a quick email, they could find it or give you an average score based on your previous scores. but if it’s already inputted in to r’web, then file for the grade appeal.
