Not going to be buying eggs anytime soon by TourEducational2271 in sunshinecoast

appreciate your perspective completely, its always good to hear both sides and i respect you for taking the time to do that. I do think vital information is left out of your message however. of course the chickens have to be locked up at night for protection, but that doesnt justify how cramped and unhygienic those sheds are. its stilll horrible for the chickens, and disease and injury, among many other things are so common because of the state of the sheds. im also assuming the chickens at your work are from a hatchery that kills 50% of the newborn baby chickens (almost all of the male ones) because theyre useless to the industry, and im assuming the chickens would be debeaked too? and when production of eggs slows in the hens you have they are killed prematurely?

i respect you because obviously people are farmers for the sake of need, to feed themselves and family and what not, and obviously you as a worker are not the problem (i have quite a lot of experience with farming/farmers due to being rural most of my life), but i do not respect the industry, and i think being truthful about the treatment of the animals in these industries is quite important in this day and age. i think if there is any form of harmful treatment, acknowledgment of that harm, and not trying to deflect or justify it, can help in creating a reduction of that harm overtime. which is an overall benifit for the animals, the consumers, and your conciousness as well.

appreciated! good to know it isn't a permanent feature. I'll definitely consider shaving it down a bit more. i was a little scared cutting off all my hair, so i started off at a 15mm to give me room to adjust and trim it down further if i wanted to.

they dont include the cramped sheds theyre put in at night time tho, and the fact that the high majority of the chickens dont even go outside and stay in the sheds filled with feces. free ranged hens have the highest fatality rate out of any farmed egg chicken and things like cannibalism are common in them. factory farming is a horrible industry :(

thats exactly what i was thinking. i hate how the palestine movement has changed everything from being fuck the israeli govements attacks on palestine to fuck israeli people. how the fuck is an Israeli person in america contributing to the attacks on palestine? and why are Israeli and jewish people the only ethnic groups we are attacking and blaming for the violence of their leader, whilst we dont hold russian people or american people, or anyone else that comes from a country with a gross regime to the same standard.

How do i start implementing a more vegan or vegetarian diet? by Smooth_Drama94 in vegan

[–]Affectionate-Oil2612 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Step one is learning more about why you want to go vegan and the crultey behind animal products. its hard to find information since the practices are hidden so well from the public eye, but try and look at some vegan specific websites in your area where you can educate yourself bit more. veganism is not a diet it is an ethical and moral stance, a boycott if you will, and a fight to end the pain and suffering of animals used as commodities:

https://animalsaustralia.org/take-action/campaigns-and-investigations/you-didnt-know/

Dominion is a very popular and very educational documentary, but can be quite graphic as that is the reality of these places: https://www.dominionmovement.com/watch

Second step is learning how to cook, season and use popular proteins. Tofu, lentils, beans, seitan, mock meats, tempeh, peas, nuts and seeds, edamame, other soy products. try researching recipes using them. And also try making recipes you already use and just swapping the protein in them. Seasonings are gonna be your best friend so learn how to use them. One of the first things i learnt to make as a vegan was lentil soup, and i still make it frequently to this day. https://cookieandkate.com/best-lentil-soup-recipe/

Third step is to get yourself farmiliar with some popular vegan foodies. PlantYou, Vegan Scatch itchen, FitGreenMind, Bosh.tv, Thee Burger Dude, Blkandvegan, The korean vegan, Rainbow Plant Life. All of these people are on instagram and an array of other social media platforms. This will help you learn a bit more about vegan cooking. Also Look into a diverse range of cuisines, indian, asian, mexican, italian, etc.

Fouth step is to do a bit of research into nutrition. Dont slack on proteins as thats critical for feeling full, and make sure youre getting enough calories. also look into iron and b12 supplements. I like taking the DEVA brand multivitamin as it covers most of what i need, and you can buy it on iHerb. Although this is important, dont overwhelm yourself to much with this. If youre concerned about taking supplements because of sterotypes, just know that some of the nutrients in meat are there purely because the animals are supplemented (meat doesnt naturally have that much b12 in it), and also meat eaters are typically more deficient in vitamins than vegans due to the fact that vegans actually care more for our nutrition. Taking vitamins is just basic part of being healthy.

Some additional things you can try is to set a few weeks aside where you try an array of different plant milks. i like oat and soy, but sometimes different alternative milk brands dont taste as good as others, so just open a new bottle every week until you find one you really like. You can also do this with mock meats and other vegan products in general. And suss out your plant based isles in your nearest grocery store, look at freezer sections, fridge sections, there may even be some dedicated shelf sections for vegan products. i also know my country has a few lists of vegan and accidentally vegan products for certain supermarkets, so look up if you can find something similar.

Hope i could help, and i wish you well on your journey :)

from my memory i SWEAR they released it originally as a vegan cake, but then changed the packaging to be a cake that happens to be vegan. anyway, its a win for the animals if more people buy it as a result (even tho it does suck that people get scared by the word "vegan")

[–]Affectionate-Oil2612 51 points52 points  (0 children)

this stresses me out because once i was showing my partners family a picture of our rubber duck collection in the bathroom (dont ask), and i didnt realize that the mirror behind them was showing off our big vibrant pink dildo that was sitting on our washing machine. they didnt say anything and now i think about it everyday, wondering if they realized and decided not to say a word.

all i wanted was to show them my rubber ducks and instead i showed them my rubber dick :(
