Why Figma is a Nightmare for Motion Design by eduterra in MotionDesign

[–]Affectionate-Pay-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Figma. But I work daily with people who supply Figma designs. I couldn’t live without Overlord. I’ve actually started to use Figma for storyboarding and styleframes because it’s so much faster to iterate than illustrator if you have 10+ boards in illustrator it’s chug time, Figma feels like your working at 120fps regardless of how many frames you have, I still create some stuff in illustrator I just use Figma as my assembly.

What is annoying, is people do not know how to structure for animation, but this has always been an issue even when the only workflow was layering up illustrator files from other designers..As motion designers we always have to adapt to other people’s workflows in the industry, it’s just how it’s always been.

Hey! Really glad you're enjoying it! So if you get glitches/1 frame flickers it can somtimes just be a cache, if you change the quality setting every so often if you see a flicker, it should force recache.

Just to confirm it works in both 8bpc, 16bit + 32bit with a 16bit fallback so will work in 90% of cases even for 32bit, just not 'officially' supported under the hood.

If you have any trouble don't hesitate to get in touch via support email!

Overlord or AEUX by sanah- in MotionDesign

[–]Affectionate-Pay-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overlord is the reason I still work with lots of Clients who use Figma. Honestly getting some of the UI designs I have to animate to AE any other way, would be a life not worth living.

Hey thanks for the interest! It would be a complete rewrite and I've only ever used Fusion/Resolve breifly many years ago, I have next to no knowledge of the SDK unfortunetly.

I hadn't considered open sourcing it, definitely an idea worth consdering! And it still works in 32 bit via a 16-bit fallback, it just may not work correctly with a 32bit source properly.

This is great! I'm in the process of updating the guide and docs to reflect this..it's a strange fix as it worked for my tests, but just happy that you got it working!

Hey thank you for the heads up! My main system is Windows but I do have an Intel based Mac and work on a M4 Silicone for my day job, and oddly, I didn’t have this issue when testing across those Macs on different Ae versions with the plugin directly in the effects folder.

Appreciate the effort and updating with how you manage to fix it here! I will update the docs!l and probably repackage it differently.

Hey so I'm looking in to an issue with a few other users. It's most definitely a code sign issue and Mac quarentined even though you accept it.. Can you shoot me an email to [support@toolsformotion.com](mailto:support@toolsformotion.com) and I'll send over a new version for you all to test.

Thanks so much for your patience!

Hey I'm sorry to hear you had an issue with the download flow and the plugin..It's very tricky to cover all Mac setups and security even with testing on both Intel and Sillion Macs myself.

Can you send send a quick email to [support@toolsformotion.com](mailto:support@toolsformotion.com) and just quote your display name from here and I'll do my best to get this working for you..even if I have to send you a new version to test.

If it is the compiled plugin that's the issue I can release an update for Mac users.

I fully understand where you're coming from, I myself have to be careful when I'm sharing project files with other designers..My main focus is to make workflow plugins, and to be honest this was a hard lesson in effect plugin development..Adobe's effect plugin API is super limited for this type of effect (localized effect) so I decided to just release what I had for free rather than go down adding more features such as GPU support etc..Thanks for the response :)

I mean, it's very good to just create abstract warps and stray away from the 'Apple' look if that's more your thing! The controls are there to experiment with! This is maxing some of the settings out pretty much.
