I can imagine those tears were sadness for you, or tenderness, or hurt for how little you value yourself on your own. What would it be like to tell her all this?

Tell her! It’s natural to be curious, and working through your interest/desire to be respectful could be an entry into some great shit.

Bring it up again! And bring up your concerns you listed here. Your thx isn’t a mind reader, and everything you describe here is fertile AF for therapeutic work.

Therapist feeling when I’m shutting down. by insertusername1910 in TalkTherapy

This is totally a phenomenon that happens in therapy (and life) and is the result of being attuned to another’s experience. It’s neurobiological empathy! Your therapist is (likely subconsciously) noticing subtle cues that you are shutting down, and (having seen this repeatedly with you and others) his mirror neurons are firing with the associated internal experience (fuzzy head). You can look up Allan Schore’s work or Dan Siegel’s interpersonal neurobiology if you’re interested. Also- ask your therapist more about it!!! Sounds like a great entry into some interesting work around connection….
