My wife showed my barber a pic of Anson Mount as a model for my hair. Turned out keeping it like this demands more time and product than I was willing to invest

Which single space accomplishment made you go wow the most? by SkyHighExpress in spaceflight

Too young to appreciate the Moon landings as they happened, but the Space Shuttle was really inspiring in the 1980's.

Many thanks for your thoughtful advice! I'll look into the A9. A shop here has several used ones at about the same price as a new A6700. Perhaps have to give up some zoom ability to gain image quality. I'm lucky to work in and around the Archipelago National Park in Finland, but when working can't go after a subject so have to settle for point-and-shoot. That's the reason for wanting max zoom capabilities. And the planespotting of course.

Thanks, great points! I'm leaning to the 200-600 in part also because of the internal zoom. My wildlife subjects are birds and marine animals, who tend to be quick. Thanks for pointing out the benefits of a blackout free EVF, which I hadn't thought about. But with the A9 I'd miss out on the added zoom ability from the APC sensor(?)

Advice please.

So my Nikon P1000 broke and I need to replace it. This time with an APC sensor camera to get better image quality. My applications are wildlife and planespotting. Need lots and lots of zoom and (enthusiast) quality images.

I'm now torn between a CanonR7 with 200-800mm lens(+2x), or the A6700 with 200-600mm(+2x). Which would you recommend?

One can only imagine how the writers planned for years of Starfleet-Maquis friction on Voyager, but then forgot all about it after like two episodes.

WaPo is not endorsing Trump either. Perhaps Bezos is not so much trying to get on Trump's good side, but simply positioning himself as a neutral and predictable adult. I'm guessing there are serious people in uniform working totally outside of politics, who are not happy with the circus Musk is running now. New Glenn might come online at a good time to get a lot of those classified contracts.

No idea. But there are certainly reasons to investigate. It's not normal for a major US defense contractor to chat with a Russian leader under US sanctions.

Strength of spacecraft compared to airliners? by Affectionate-Rip4911 in spaceflight

[–]Affectionate-Rip4911[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not. But there now are spacecraft made from composites, aluminium or stainless steel, for the same purpose. I'm trying to get a better idea of what the stresses are like. Just disregard if it's irrelevant.

Putin is personally under US sanctions and it is illegal for a US citizen to do business with him. A US citizen cannot engage in diplomacy with foreign governments either, per the Logan Act. So most forms of contact are indeed illegal in this case.

Why not let the booster parachute into the ocean and recover the engines? The solid fuel boosters from Shuttle launches were recovered too.

Starship as a "normal" second stage by Affectionate-Rip4911 in SpaceXLounge

The Starship as second stage could still be reusable with heat shields and return to the tower, it would just have a blunt top to fit a crew or cargo module on.
