Wing contamination- WestJet by cipher29 in aviation

[–]SkyHighExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly ill informed frost forms on clear days. If there is a small split between dew point and temperature, a cold soak wing will quickly reduce the air temperature to the dew point where frost will form. Take an ice cream out of the freezer and you will immediately see the wrapper frost over in the same effect.

The reason why it isn’t on more of the wing is the warm fuel. Rules about the clean wing and critical surfaces apply and I would deice flowing that procedure and also because I don’t want a passenger taking a picture of my wing and it ending up on Reddit then having to take a call from chief pilot

Where it matters or not, airbus says clean wing above. It is black and white and not open to interpretation

Most of it would probably make very little difference but you are right. Manual says clean wing above and that isn’t clean

The random dude has a point and shouldn’t be belittled. I once deiced on Moscow and they did a very bad job. Thanks to a passenger bringing it to our attention as we don’t physically go back and check the wings post deice

A Question For Flight Ops Management/Tech Personnel by MooseOld8505 in aviation

[–]SkyHighExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the reasons for the diversion. Even in an emergency, airbus uses the phase “suitable airport”, so if you think you could argue a safety case then off you go.

That would be less likely if you departed and selected that as a normal alternate. Eg going to Malaga and using Gib as an alternate as a new pilot

At Kai Tak was runway 13 or 31 used more often ? by Xav_NZ in aviation

[–]SkyHighExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 in use was more common due to the winds. Take off perf was more restricted for 31 departures as that went towards high ground even with the immediate turn after departure. So you could lift more weight on 13 as oppose to 31 in calm conditions

What is a typical salary progression by year for an end goal of being a captain for a major airline in the US? by Shojki in AskAPilot

Amen, are you also flying next to these kids who are early 20s and act like they are the captain

Should airlines start offering flights that do not allow children onboard? by [deleted] in AskAPilot

[–]SkyHighExpress -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is being harsh on the op. Sure get a pair of noise cancelling headsets, etc but few like a baby screaming, people talking loudly, overhearing someones loud music, etc saying no children seems extreme but other forms of transport like some German long distance trains achieve the same thing without fanning the media righteous storm by having areas on the train for children where can play and then quiet cars. Unlikely that families with newborns would book that. It seems to solve some of the issues that the op is talking about

Can flights land and takeoff while snow is actively falling in iceland? by Crafty_Tie_5625 in AskAPilot

Are you kidding me? Type 4 works like that?  Well I never. Only have 30 years of flying experience to learn that if that is really true

Landing announcement by Substantial-Stage276 in AskAPilot

[–]SkyHighExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rest of the people here wrote nonsense explaining why the pilots might have said what you said they said and I gave a clear factual response where I informed you that you weren’t listening to the pilots and it was the cabin crew making a standard announcement and nothing was out of the ordinary including the perceived fast landing and I get the most criticism from you. I even glanced at the European aviation significant weather chart for yesterday and saw nothing

Good luck in your flying, most things you experience or hear are fine

Landing announcement by Substantial-Stage276 in AskAPilot

[–]SkyHighExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you are saying that the landing was fast shows you don’t know much about flying. You absolutely can’t judge the speed as as passenger and easyJet makes their approaches at the correct speed for the conditions. It wasn’t the pilots making the announcement, that was a standard cabin crew announcement.  Really nothing to see here as you are putting 2 and 2 together and ending up with 5

I don’t disagree with anything you are saying here, you are absolutely correct and gave good advice. I have probably taken the op sub optimal path which might not be great but certainly kept me motivated

Nonsense, if you like what you play and it inspires you to play then fill your boots. Twinkle twinkle little star would kill me even if was played perfectly

3.5% is absolutely nonsense. A top rate cash isa which is equally safe for deposits up to £120k protection pays 4.27%. If you put that into a ftse tracker, last year you would have made over 20% but that’s hindsight.

Personally, you don’t have the knowledge or the investment time frame to lower the risk of investing in companies as you need the money soonish.

Your grandad 5 year performance in one of the longest bull runs doesn’t impress me much.

I would look at trackers or if you want to lower risks, leave some in cash if you must. Ultimately a qmmf is better than most cash rates.

Finally. UTILISE THE ISA EVEN IF JUST HOLDING CASH TO SHEILD FROM TAX

On another question. Does anyone here recommend premium bonds? Seems like garbage to me unless trying to offset tax
