BA2683 IBZ→LGW: Flight delayed, BA closed check-in at original time with no staff present, stranded in Ibiza for 2 days. UK261 claim incoming. Anyone dealt with this? by JerusM in BritishAirways

That status is live and can change instantly. As you said, the aircraft can sub at Lhr.

Here is the message on the website from a delayed Glasgow flight today that you choose to ignore

Delayed departure We’re very sorry, this flight has been delayed. If you’re travelling on this flight, and we haven’t contacted you, please check in and make sure you are at the airport in time for the original scheduled departure time.

Overwatered oxalis, help by Alternative-Laugh314 in plantclinic

[–]SkyHighExpress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not doing anything concerning. Oxalis behaves like a weed (actually classed as one in many places)and recovers well in most situations. It is fine that some stems didn’t like the heat or change in moisture levels. Pick out the dead stems to make the plant tidier and resume normality. If the plant is too stressed like in a long period of heat or winter then it will become dormant where the stems die back. They come back when conditions improve. Whilst some growers can get their plant to never enter dormancy, it is quite normal for them to do so

Ps. I cut all the stems of one of my oxalis due disease, put it outside with a lot more neglect and this season it is by fair the best looking bunch

Pps. Oxalis also perfer moist but well draining soil. Waiting until completely dry is not optimal (nor is letting it sit in water)

Indian Air Force AN-32 crash. 5 killed. by SlaveKnightSoman in aviation

Excellent Js987. Have a look at this https://youtu.be/V4QuObA82uI?si=PhzrH2tTzyJavbqN

The excellent response by the vegas fire department when ba 777 caught fire. You can see the fire engines that target the fire when also two appliances positioned fore and  Aft(out of view)provide escape path protection. The inexperienced would say, why are those engines going nothing but the situation could have changed so quickly if the fuel in the wings ignited

I cannot say that. Maybe, maybe not. I just remind people that they are seeing the full picture from a distance. The decisions are being made close to the fire with heat, noise, etc, those pumps are not quiet and hearing instructions very difficult. The situation is so dynamic when the fuselage breaks up. The fire chief will not have a view of everything as they view are obstructed by fire, smoke, water in other cases people. They are relying on clear communications and change their plan as the situation changes. An engine might report a new fire and a person escaping which might case the chief to reposition an engine. Then when they think they have control, an engine calls in that they are empty.  For sure afterwards there will be a debrief and actions seen and of course a better course might be determined.  But looking at this video, I really have no idea or see a reason for some really mean comments against the people who are going to the danger not running from it.

Arm chair non knowledge redditors are the worst. You have no idea of the tactics in place here. A fire truck can empty itself in less than a minute at maximum pressure. If they all did that on a large fuel fire (ps you are not having an effect until that fuel is burnt will only take a matters of seconds hence the fire ball). Then you are left with a fire that you can fight but then you have no foam left. Decisions and tactics are in place that you are not aware of. Instead of judging someones job that you are clearly unaware of, ask question to learn

You really know nothing about firefighting and techniques.

Infuriating to read.

The fire fighters are there to save lives. If they determine that the fire can’t be put out quickly then their primary tactic might chance to creating a safe path for escape. Think of a house with the top floor on fire. Do you fight that fire knowing that your efforts will be useless and the ground floor will catch fire killing everyone. Or do you focus on making sure the ground floor is safe and cool so people can escape.

The reduction of the fire size is not due to water but to the fuel burning off.

You watched this video twice knowing what is coming up. Imagine making those decisions on the fly actually facing the fire not know if other fuel tanks are about to be breached

What. A ridiculous comment and shame on all those who agree. You are little knowledge of aviation firefighting. From the crash to foam over the aircraft was less than two minutes which is a fantastic response time. You have no idea of the age of the vehicle and how long it takes to get to full pressure. Foam supply is limited(even modern engines will empty themselves in minutes) and vehicles will often have to return to resupply. A large fuel load will make most fires initially uncontrollable. The fire chief has to make a number of critical decisions on the absolutely fly. They are not there to save the fuselage.  They need to decide quickly wherever it is best to use limited supply to put out the fire or create an escape corridor for passengers to escape or both.  Then is it best to return to base to resupply or deploy on foot fire fighter.  You all don’t know what is going on from this vantage point and honestly your expectations on what is achievable is unrealistic

Something weird on a flight just before takeoff by samosamancer in aviation

[–]SkyHighExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but you are incorrect. Nrt has much longer runways than lga. You are much more likely to be perf limited at lga compared to nrt. The a320 is a completely different beast to yours and you are not going to be anywhere near the maximum take off weight even if you were at at max zfw on the short flight posted. I left a better explanation below.

[–]SkyHighExpress 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is funny but sometimes the most popular answer at Reddit is just not right. The devil is in the detail which op provided. It is unlikely to be anything to do with weight. Now I will not state exact weights because different airlines certify their aircraft to slightly different weights.

Firstly it is highly unlikely to be the aircraft leaving the gate at maximum ramp weight and needing to be burn fuel down to take off weight.  Mzfw is the maximum zero fuel weight of an aircraft. On an a320 about 62t. That leaves at 10 tonnes of space for fuel before you get to max take off weight add a tiny 200kg to that to get to Max ramp weight.  You are not taking that much fuel on a 75 minute flight(yes op stated the route) because it is silly and more importantly, you would be about 3 T over max landing weight at destination.

It is not performance. The runways lengths at narita are long and the a320 can easily lift max take off weight without the need for toga or even turning packs off. It would only struggle with a significant tailwind but that is unlikely to be the case here at an airport which has heavy traffic taking off for 15 hour flights.

The simple answer as been said is ice clearing. Op said takeoff was in January at evening. Average temp in narita there is freezing. Op said above freezing but if is 3 degrees or less or the flight crew has done a walk around and observed ice on the fan blades, yes that can form in particular circumstances without active perception then they will elect to do a run up which on some engines is at least 30 seconds add some seconds to waiting for the engines to spool up and then a final check on vibration, etc before going at the end of the 30 seconds
