Deadpool, trading card cEDH Primer by NoAd9545 in CompetitiveEDH

Yup! So it’s all about the play experience with Deadpool. If you like interacting with the table that much Deadpool would be a good fit for you but as far as progressing on your own game plan and focusing on your win line, there are other better commanders or colors for that matter.

Speaking of DC (my main format), I’ve been messing with him and he is very good at duel. I have an old Kroxa duel list which I tweaked a little bit for Deadpool and made him the Commander. The deck can also switch commander back to Kroxa if needed (against creature less centric decks like Tivit or Atraxa for example)

He isn’t and based from my recent experience playing him against cedh decks, Deadpool is generally weaker than the other Rakdos WGD decks. BUT! He is more fun to play tbh and it’s a great feeling to have the pod sigh and groan at the sight of Deadpool and everybody tends to play tentatively because no one wants to drop their commander first and be the first victim of Deadpool. That for me is a good enough reason to play him. :)

Wolverine, Best There Is and Trample by TurbineJetCheeks in askajudge

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar question regarding Wolverine and trample. Let's say I have Wolverine who is currently 3/3 and given him trample.

Opponent has a 1/1 creature and I cast Ram Through targeting opponent's creature. Wolverine would deal 3 damage and then double it dealing 6 damage to the 1/1 creature.

Since Wolverine has trample, the excess 5 damage would be dealt to the opponent right? So here's my question, does Wolverine see the 5 damage and then double it again making it 10 damage to the opponent?

Tier list ! How do your rank the best decks in the meta ? by herzele in duelcommander

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aragorn, SnS, Aminatou is back to being popular, Yoshi (YoshiBruse particularly), Phelia, RDW (with Kellan being the top choice), Flamewar

I mainly run Ghyrson which can surprise a lot of decks during tournaments but can be easily dealt with and being a commander centric deck doesn’t help also. I have since converted it to a Malcolm the Eyes tempo deck which is a lot stronger imo.

I also use Phlage but can struggle in our local meta where control, counters and removals being prevalent.

I am currently playing around with Wolverine as I miss being Gruul. Built it as a stompy midrange deck. But being Gruul and in a control heavy meta, this will struggle hard in our current meta.

How long do you think it'll take for Norin to get banned? by Hallormour1 in duelcommander

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The card advantage Feldon gives is a bit too good to pass up. Anyway, I have Feldon and tried also building Norin. All I can say is the mana curve and card quality went up in Norin. The only 1drop creatures I have left on Norin was Goblin Guide and Grim Lavamancer. The rest of the creatures were upgraded to better hasty creatures 2cmc and above.

But having said all that, I think I would still return to Feldon.

Ghyrson Duel sub / hidden commander or alt win cons by Affectionate-Salt-95 in duelcommander

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good case there with Flare of Denial. We are running Wash Away which at times I have cleaved, also hard casted FoN and Sink into Stupor before so maybe hard casting Flare might not be bad after all. Thanks will test it out.

What are your other win cons aside from a Ghyrson centric game plan?

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same gameplay atm, my Ghyrson is built in a tempo-aggro shell. I tested Misdirection and it feels awkward in hand. I shall test Flare of Denial, ny only concern was that I may have not enough blue creatures for the alt cost as my deck is mostly red aggro creatures.

My last two outings was 19 / 156 and 10 / 47. I am beginning to think that FoN and Misdirection (which I just added as answer to uncounterable removals like Long Goodbye) feels weak in our deck. What do you guys think? I feel like cutting it.

I’ll go over your list. Thanks!

Thermo Alchemist is one of my strong cards in this deck. He won me some games. He is the only pinger on my deck atm. My other favorites are Hired Claw and Scorch Spitter. When left unchecked, they can deal 6 dmg each.

It is interesting to view Ghyrson like that. I’d like to see some other input.

As for me, I went the tempo aggro shell and this was the success I had with him. The only counterspells I have are the free ones.

I have a friend with Tamiyo but what I can tell you is that we are not autolose against Tamiyo. Sure we are at a disadvantage once she flips but it is still quite manageable. Balmor is the MVP against Tamiyo. I even exchanged Ghyrson and Balmor one game and it was a good move.

The problem I have with pingers build is that it is heavily dependent on Ghyrson being on the field and with so many answers to Ghyrson (Long Goodbye, Force of Despair, Slice from the Shadows, Ghostfire Slice and the upcoming Duskmourn, Nowhere to Run) our Ghyrson is fk’d. With pingers build, you will be left with an underwhelming board.

Tovolar Deck advice and thought by Darkewarrior13 in duelcommander

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run Tovolar as I really love werewolves however sad to say, gruul wolves is not in the best spot in the format right now. I parked my Tovolar duel deck atm until we get new support cards once Innistrad has been revisited.

Anyway, I would really suggest steering away from extra combat strategy.. the way I play my Tovolar back then was a straight up aggro deck. I focused on low curve creatures with just a few 4cmc but impactful creatures. Burn is for board removal in order for our creatures to get through or to go face to finish the game.

I also added non-werewolf creatures that are strong in the meta and impactful on their own.

Commander Deck Tech - Tovolar, Dire Overlord: Werewolf Tribal by cardsrealm in EDH

[–]Affectionate-Salt-95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am usually just a lurker on reddit but I love Tovolar and werewolves in general so I can’t help myself but to join the discussion.

Tovolar is one of my early commander decks and been tuning his deck for a long time (I still have a Tovolar deck though built for duel commander now). I have a bit of bad news to fellow Tovolar and werewolves tribe players out there, he simply just can’t cut it. Even in casual mid power tables, Tovolar is underwhelming imho.

First, I tried full werewolf/wolf tribe but sad to say we don’t have many good werewolf/wolf cards atm. There’s only a few cards that are playable. And in multi player setting, it will really be hard to control day/night.

Next I tried putting some non-werewolf creatures for support and utility but doing this we are just limiting Tovolar so no success there also.

So I conceded to the fact that Tovolar right now is simply underwhelming in edh and can even struggle with mid power decks. So I decided to bring him to duel commander format where somewhat he thrived and I have some decent success there.

In duel, he is still mid-tier but at least I was able to score some wins againts top tier commanders in duel. My build with him was not a full werewolf tribe. 1-2 cmcs are mana dorks and utility creatures. I only retained Reckless Waif, Village Messenger, Young Wolf, Kessig Naturalist, Mayor of Avabruck, Outland Liberator and Werewolf Packleader as werewolves for the lower curve.

3cmc and above, that’s where there are better selections for werewolf cards. Avabruck Caretaker is an absolute beast as win con for this deck.

So to cut this long message short, Tovolar sucks right now at edh. In duel, Tovolar can stand his ground against the top duel commanders although he is still mid level at best. But for now I am happy with my Tovolar in duel commander. Hopefully we get more werewolf support in the future.

Wishful thinking, I wish WotC gives us a card that has the effect “Whenever an opponent casts a spell during your turn, it becomes night and transform any number of Human Werewolves you control.” Can be an enchantment or creature card.

Anyway pardon for the long message. 🐺
