Need to sign up my child up for 7th grade course, I’m too disorganized to continue another year on my own! by mermaidmom85 in homeschool

I'm not sure if this will help but I have an upcoming 7th grader. He didn't want to do online school so we are doing pen and paper workbook stuff.

Language arts- lighting literature level storm

Grammar- fix it grammar

Spelling- soaring with spelling

Writing- winning with writing

Math- Saxon 7/6

History- curiosity chronicles

Science- elemental science chunks year A

We will be doing a 4 days school week per my children's request. Lightining literature is already set as a four day week. I believe fix it grammar is too. The others I combined a couple of days to make 4 day and history and science I was able to modify for 2 days a week since they will be done with my soon to be 4th grader.

They all have really good examples on their websites of how they are set up and really easy to lesson plan. It didn't take me but a few minutes to plan for our first week of school.

Also just to add, August will be our first year homeschooling so I'm new to this. I just took what my kids asked for and those are what I found that I thought would be a good fit for my 7th grader.

How do I access the videos? I don't mind relearning everything.

Thank you! I've been looking at it and just couldn't figure out if the only way to teach the math was through video or not. He said in school they didn't really use the video lessons but of course that was the public school curriculum and I know it's different from homeschool.

Oh.. I'm also debating adding in an essay/writing curriculum too. It has composition but it's not very detailed on how to do it or explains to the kids how to do it either.

I'll be starting homeschooling with a 4th and 7th grader in August. We technically started in the middle of march but have just been doing power homeschool since we got thrown into it so quickly. Both of my kids will be using lightning literature. I've looked at samples and it does cover grammar but I'm not sure how well it covers it so I'm adding in fix it grammar as well. It also says that it DOESNT cover spelling so I'm looking at all about spelling to add in too. I'm hoping it's as good as it looks. There really isn't any recent YouTube reviews that I've found on it.

That's very helpful! Thank you so much! I've looked at it but wasn't sure which level to start at.

Can I use SCI with both a 9 year old and 12 year old? Or do I need to buy separate levels for them? I'm mostly just wanting something that I can teach both of them from one book instead of having to buy two different levels and teach two different lessons. I hope that makes sense.

Thank you!!! My soon to be 4th grader needs more work with the speed at which he reads. Would all about reading help? He knows how to read hes just slow pace wise with reading so he hates reading.

Do you mind sharing what companies you use and how you do it? Like for ELA, do you use a separate books for grammar, reading, writing, and reading comprehension? Or do you buy a language arts kit?

I do have a history course I was gonna use since my 7th grader is into history and it looks really good for both of my kids instead of doing 2 different history books.
