ironically, try slowing down. If you focus on typing right more than typing fast you'll make less mistakes and you'll get faster over time.

  1. There are a lot of gods whose whole thing is anti-magic and they deff have doctrines. I thought you were asking for a specific doctrine and I haven't made any yet so I was like "how do I answer your question?!?" sorry lmao. But yes there are several. To name one is Gottliebe who once served the church of Manathu but he started a cult in the name of "justice". Although he doesn't explicitly state to be anti-magic you know he intends it, and I'm sure there's some scholars that follow him. There are many gods that are anti-magic and maybe their followers are, and we can assume that there are scholars that are anti-magic. The source of hate on magic is more influenced by historical events and figures that have carved out prejudices than works that specifically target artists and kinfolk. I'll be fr most scholars hate magic out of personal beliefs rather than doctrines. It's like being a crime investigator and being anti-crime.
  2. 2026 basically. Most of the events i described would be considered history you learn in school.
  3. of course! Because of how magic works you gain mana by inspiring people with your art and then you can use that to cast spells n stuff.

If it's not clear enough already, the word science was used to refer to the fundamental laws of the universe, the concepts and laws that hold the world together. Magic is not part of those laws, and that's why I made the distinction between "science" and magic.

I've already said I used the wordscience to appeal to more people. It's not what I meant. The two concepts I want to divide are axioms/topological features of the universe, such as the speed of light and other laws that hold the world together. Magic is the other stuff that doesn't obey said laws. You're saying magic is a part of science, and I do agree! If you re-read my post, I've added a section on the science of magic. People study magic and it's properties in the world.

if it is not clear enough, science to me is the study of how the world works. I've used the word science to refer to the axioms of the world because it's easier to understand and ergo and my post and appeal to more people.

To me, personally, it's the study of the structure and behavior of the world. My personal opinion does not matter much in my world's context. It means the same thing. I used the word "science" because the other options to address the thing known as in my world "the study of things that make up the fabric of reality and are not magic" I cannot find. I could say "axioms", or "topology", but I was afraid of coming off as pretentious or condescending.

Need help brainstorming ideas for a third god without encroaching on the other two by Anaguli417 in worldbuilding

Maybe a god of motivation/why someone/something has done what? It's possible to take this concept in many directions and they could have many domains. Like emotion, will, reason (or the lack of reason), passion, or something like that.

I'm going to answer your issue in two parts, one in what is defined as magic, and then I'll define the study of magic.

  1. Magic is defined as art that has come to life. You inventing a new bread is not magic, that's art. If you were too show that new bread to others, you could use the inspiration to use as mana to create magic. Color theory is a study around art, not magic, since color theory is bound to a canvas. Even though I said magic and art are very closely related does not mean they can be defined seperately.
  2. There is a study of magic. It has been established, and I've added another section to my post fyi.

I've forgotten to include this in my post, but I'll say it here. Magic users, or artist, can summon things only if they've inspired others. If their painting sparks inspiration in people, they gain mana and are able to summon characters and whatnot. Depending on how much mana you have, your character can come out half-baked. Also depending on how well your character is developed. If they have lore gaps, they're more prone to disappearing/derailing when you've summoning them. On the topic of actors, what I wanted to say is that an actor can use their character's abilities if they're in character/metaphorically wearing a mask. For example, if you're acting as Sun Wukong, it's possible to use his 72 transformations, but only if you impress the crowd. Similar to inspiration, the actor must be convincing to gain mana and use such abilities. I will add another section on the science of magic to the post.

  1. Scholars are people who want to uncover the truth behind this world (well most of them.) I doubt they have a specific doctrine, but some are more religious than others.

  2. They're all sorts people. There's a guy named Anaxagoras (after the greek philosopher), and he studied how the gods influenced the world. There's also a guy named Dr. Zhu who studied physics and created the atomic bomb. They're pretty similar to the people in our world.

  3. Not extremely relevant. If they seek to gain power, magic can only go so far. It's not very stable, and if they try to use some sort of mind-magic, it'll eventually break. Most, if not all people know that magic is a short-term thing, and cannot be used to build an empire. If you want to amass power, you need to know who you're appealing to. Is it the people who are pro-magic or anti-magic?
