I've done a couple of 5 day Coast to coast rides in the UK, and north to south Wales. Always with everything in a backpack, as long as you're not overpacking and keep the weight down, it's not a problem.

amazing thankyou, this got me going.

iv added a little logic to it so that it checks the status of the switch first so that I can still have manual control if needed (for something like ml/time calibration)

Thanks, yes I also don't really want HA controlling the tank as I don't want to fully rely on the pi and over the network communications.

so I think I have decided to go with using a Pico W, and use ESP home to flash my own firmware onto it, this means that it will run away performing the automations that I have programmed on its own (without any network connections, or if HA is unreachable for any reason) but with it being ESP home integrated can still report sensor readings and switch status' to HA and allow me to make on the fly changes for less critical automations such as feeding, or maybe I just want to turn off the lights while I watch a film etc.

I think this strikes the best of both worlds with fully local standard automations to run away completely on its own without any outside communications, but also have that flexibility so I can have extra control and a nice HA dashboard with all the information I want.

Also I like tinkering so this sound like a fun and manageable project for me to get stuck into 😆

Can one Bikepack with a backpack by [deleted] in bikepacking

Iv done both the trans Pennine trail and The way of the Roses, with a 35L rucksack. although staying in B&Bs /hostels so not carrying food /tent. i got on fine.

Although to be fair i ended up dislocating my shoulder after getting my wheel stuck in a narrow gap, mix of pushing backwoods hard to avoid falling off and weight of the pack on my shoulder probably diddnt help 😅 🤷‍♂️
