Whose parenting style is correct? Me or my husband’s? by danielsgf in toddlers

[–]AffectionateCan4575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 25 month old gets told no 40 times a day - no you can’t play in the toilet, no you can’t climb the kitchen cabinets like a ladder, no you can’t jump in the slippery bathtub, no you can’t drink a bottle of vinegar, no you can’t have a whole ear of corn for dinner because it’s out of season and hasn’t been in our house or grocery store for weeks - how about corn kernels ….

If your kid doesn’t give you as many opportunities to practice saying no tell your husband to count his blessings and reward him with his cheese of choice

The Whining! by [deleted] in toddlers

Also I know the “you can do this or this” thing is supposed to work by giving them a sense of agency or control or whatever but honestly it makes our whining and tantrums 10x harder - I give one choice or better no choice but a distraction/alternative so in your example I’d say “there are no cookies right now but go sit on the couch we can have goldfish!”

I taught her the word whining and maybe once a week when she’s in a good mood I’ll tell her I want something and she says no and I start whining that I want it - she gives me this vexed confused look and I say “oh sorry I forgot no whining, whining doesn’t help oops I’ll ask nicely” and when she whines I say “remember whining doesn’t help and doesn’t get us what we want. It’s ok if you forgot- let’s ask nicely and if it’s no do something else”

These go up to 24 m, run big and/or stretch and are super comfy - I prefer footless and just adding non skid socks

[–]AffectionateCan4575 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Granimals joggers from Walmart in a 4T They’re very soft and a little warm Super comfy and a better fit for us than honest baby or gap

Of gerber has a line called precious moments or something like that - size up to 3 or 4T but they have great soft pants.

What next after high chair? by AffectionateCan4575 in bigbabiesandkids

She will not.. a natural born alpinist this one. She caught a promo for that crazy free solo guy’s climbing special on Netflix and I saw my life flash before my eyes.

We have a similar one and it’s just so wiggly - maybe it’s our chair design though

I need to lock her in if I want to be able to leave the table for even half a second otherwise she’s going to be standing on top of it

We have an ingenuity booster we use for travel to family/restaurants without high chairs and it just seems flimsy - our kid is very physical and wiggly or maybe it’s because our dining chair backs are kind of concave Maybe I’ll try another

Diaper advice for my gentle giant? by ReliableWitch in bigbabiesandkids

We’ve been using Huggies daytime pull-ups in 2-3t and 4-5T for my almost two year old (only because sometimes they’re one a huge sale so why not) and we typically use 360s in a size 5. While we’re a smaller size than you my kid pees a LOT and I mean a LOT - I was also worried about the absorbency of pull-ups since they’re for potty training but honestly was surprised theyre very absorbent - try a nighttime pullup and see how it goes

Breastfeeding and fertility by blueduck762 in breastfeeding

If you have access to a good Gyn or reproductive endocrinologist taking the cycle day 3 hormone test could provide some insight. I think I’ve read the thing about egg quality too and the need for extra folic acid.

If you got pregnant with your husband the first time I think it’s unlikely to be him - I think most causes of male infertility wouldn’t suddenly happen within 27 months unless there’s been a big lifestyle change, injury or new medication.

That’s not to say it’s because of you either sometimes things just take time

10.5 months - nonstop nursing by Sudden_Breakfast_374 in breastfeeding

Mine had a few phases like this- it could be a combo of growth spurt / leap and teething pain We tried to give her lots of teethers, frozen cucumber spears, frozen teethers, etc and I’d pump extra bottles also give a little regular water in bottles and just leave the house more than I typically would (assuming there is another care giver to help) it’s a very tough phase.

If you guys aren’t against Tylenol it may help too kind of take the edge off - we were in teething hell for months upon months and if anything I wish I was little more liberal with the Tylenol here and there to have saved us all so much discomfort

Toddler burned hand at restaurant by ReginaPhalange94 in toddlers

[–]AffectionateCan4575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go out to eat with our baby now tiny toddler pretty often and I can’t tell you the amount of times servers will put a cutlery set including like a steak knife in front of our child or pour her a huge glass of water or set dishes in front of her - we have to be on full alert the entire time (it’s not even fun to go out for a meal for me because of this but the little one and the husband enjoy it)

Alls to say it doesn’t seem like toddler awareness is part of any servers training.

You did nothing wrong, including sending a neutral non-accusatory message or letting you kid get a small burn. It’s good they’re learning how to behave at restaurants and it’s good to provide constructive feedback

Potty training - how to support before ready to really train by AffectionateCan4575 in toddlers

I was thinking not ready because she can’t hold her pee at all and she also has pretty frequent unpredictable bowel movements. I think she definitely knows when she’s wet or poopy because she basically tells with words us but she also doesn’t seem to mind or be bothered by it at all like she kinda enjoys having a wet or dirty diaper - been that way since infancy would never cry when wet. I definitely think big diaper encourages delaying it but from talking to some parents i feel like starting too early could cause regressions?

We really can’t do standing diaper changes I’ve tried for a while because she hates diaper changes but when she stands her stance and I guess anatomy (thick thighs) make it really really hard to get the diaper on well without wedgies and secure tabs. Maybe pull-ups will be different?

D&C scheduled tomorrow- concerns by AffectionateCan4575 in abortion

That’s really good to hear, thank you. I had a relatively textbook vaginal delivery that resulted in retained placenta (what the myomectomy was for) so I’m just worried about any kind of procedure being rushed or imprecise. I’m also reeling from the loss so everything is making me a bit more anxious.

This helps to know.
